here's an old one of mine that Ben Willis took and put some really sweet sound to it.Thank you Ben! http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13221130Whiskey And Jesus Whiskey and Jesus Both take me away Whiskey's a game Jesus don't play One's got my body as no mercy unfolds The other never gives up,cause he wants my poor soul Whiskey and Jesus In my heart they both flood Whiskey my sweat Jesus my blood Takes both to run me the way that i am But a change wouldn't hurt me to become a better man Whiskey and Jesus, whiskey and Jesus The evil and the good, they pull at my life Whiskey and Jesus, whiskey and Jesus I'm in darkness with one, with the other shines a light Whiskey and Jesus Both know the score They both keep me reaching For just a little more This addiction i have, there's only one right and one wrong So when the bottle does kill me,i pray Jesus takes me home Whiskey and Jesus, whiskey and Jesus The evil and the good, they pull at my life Whiskey and Jesus, whiskey and Jesus I'm in darkness with one, with the other shines a light

Hey Mike,
I really like the gospel/folk vibe here. Nice lyrics, nice melody, a good fit for your voice as well!

Oh yes, a sweet sound indeed. Lovely picking & strumming by Ben, and that harp is pleasing.
A fine song, Mike. Good lyric, and really nice vocals. Is that you singing? Or is it Ben? (I know he has a good voice.)

Ben and Michael--
A great old time folk gospel--The bottle won with my daddy--a song like this may have changed his ways--I enjoyed this one!

Thanks for all the comments. I haven't played any music for a few months. My fingers were getting soft and I was worried I'd forget how to do anything. I got together with Mike to play something and this song seemed to fit. I even broke out the dusty old harp. Thanks Mike.

Hi Michael, hi Ben..
This is indeed a really nice song all the way around. I am not thrilled with the low rumbly instrument..is that a fuzz tone on a bass? Yeah..that feels wrong for this setting, to me..but everything else is great!
Mike

Thanx for giving this a spin and your kind words Michael.I believe that low rumble is the recorder,at least that's what i hear after the song is over.Mike

Hi Mike Z. I recorded the bass raw so it's not an effect. Like Mike said, it could be his recorder, or it could be the loss of sound quality caused by converting the original WAV file to MP3. The WAV file sounds great.

no Ben,it's on the instrumental backtrack, there is a rumble before the music starts and after until you stop it.It sounds like a tape deck rolling and hissing.

Wow Mike, #2 Sub-genre on Soundclick. I never got that high with my own music (though I know it doesn't mean that much). But nice to be noticed.

Sounds authentic southern rural bluegrass to the bone, imo. What a great lyric, contrasting whiskey and Jesus! Put's a lot of images in my mind!

Reminds me of "O Brother Where Art Thou" music. Again, thanks for the comments. Mike wrote the lyric and melody. I just followed along.
