I just found it interesting that nobody is boycotting songs or top artists because of their support for the "rebel flag"" as they like to call it but they flip their lids when an image of a woman kissing another woman comes on the radio. I don't know. It doesn't leave good feelings.

Darius Rucker wrote a song about the flag flying above the state house in south carolina and he got death threats and hate mail.

The flag is a symbol of oppression and has no place in contemporary america and yet its still mainstream in the US in the entertainment and political world. Why? Because enough people still accept it.

The key is, MEN are open to women kissing. THAT is why it was written in the first place. People think artists and writers dont understand or have their finger on pulse of society. but they do, more guys would enjoy that image than women would.

They knew what they were doing, anybody who enjoyed the movie American Pie likes lesbians!

Yeah. That's definitely true. But I wonder if more women called in than men? I'd like to know who the calls and emails were from.

I live close to a national landmark (part of the Underground Railroad) where African Americans fled to for their lives because white Americans wanted to keep enslaving them and a lot lost their lives on this journey so I really don't see what's so funny whatsoever.

Yeah I know all about it. Canada had abolished slavery long before the US.

And we treated the natives much worse.

That doesn't change the fact that US states still fly the flag, allow it to be on state license plates etc etc.

You can't turn the channel.

Slavery wasn't abolished in Canada until 1833, when it was outlawed in the entire British empire.

Only 32 years later, 620,000 Americans died to abolish slavery.

Canadians merely obeyed the edict of their sovereign, William IV. Americans actually laid down their lives for abolition.

Slavery in Canada wasn't really a major thing. We had slaves (under 4500) but we didn't rely on them like in the southern US and Carribean. This is according to the article you posted.

I'd bet it was a "major thing" for those 4500 slaves. wink

Slavery in what is now known as Canada wasn't widely accepted so we didn't fight a stupid civil war over ending it.

I think this is cool for the band, as they cannot possibly loose face nor image due to homophobia and prejudice.

I'm a little surprised over country radio, though. Who is "country radio"? I mean that sounds like a very homogenic term, but in reality they should be spread all over the place, shouldn't they?

And country music fans, who are they? From what I thought I knew, I believed there were a lot of middle class women, 30+ maybe, and quite a few in the cities all over the US. Not just a minor fundamentalist bunch from The Bible Belt, but are "Country Radio" acting on behalf of them, and why? How many are there of those kinds of people left in this world?

So, from a distance, the banning is a bit surprising to me. I thought people would have been further than that. Here in Denmark, porn has been legal since early 70'ies, so a little bisexuality won't be scaring anyone any more than pepper in the gravy.

Are "country radio" (whom ever they are) representing a major fan base, or are they out of touch with the movers and shakers in country music?

In regards to social issues the US is always bein dragged kicking and screaming and putting up a major resistance rather than just accepting the inevitable.

They did it with slavery, womens rights, treatment of African Americans, abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage.

Much different than Danes who are very socially liberal.

Aw, Well,
To quote an old buddy of mine who is now deceased: EVERYBODY LIKES A LITTLE ASS BUT NOBODY LIKES A WISE ASS so Wise Up! I'm not sure of how Radio Stations are pulling the song as they are programmed from remote sites. Maybe that's changed! It's called Freedom of Speech!

“Not just a minor fundamentalist bunch from The Bible Belt, but are "Country Radio" acting on behalf of them, and why?"

You do realize that Nashville is in the “Bible Belt”, right? grin

"How many are there of those kinds of people left in this world?”

"Eighty-three percent of Americans identify themselves as Christians. Most of the rest, 13 percent, have no religion. That leaves just 4 percent as adherents of all non-Christian religions combined — Jews, Muslims, Buddhists and a smattering of individual mentions."

http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=90356

83% is quite a lot, no? And this, without having a "State Religion", like Denmark (which, oddly enough, is Christianity). grin

"Here in Denmark, porn has been legal since early 70'ies, so a little bisexuality won't be scaring anyone any more than pepper in the gravy."

Okay. If you don't mind me asking, what is considered good that you believe to be evil?

I hope it's not porn. Unless it's bad quality porn. Then I agree. EVIL.

If you believe that the degradation, subjugation and victimization of women is “good”, we have no common ground for understanding. I respect your right to your own opinions, of course. grin

I believe if a woman wants to enter the porn industry then all power to her. Men also do porn. If they are forced into the porn industry then obviously a law is being broken and that's bad. If they feel they have to do porn to survive and pay for their day to day or loans off then I sympathize but they at least made the choice themselves.

Obviously, I don't have your expertise in the subject, so I bow to your superior understanding of it. grin

All I know is, I rarely if ever looked at porn before the internet.

It's the convenience and over abundance of it that made me curious. In addition to get spam mail every day.

It's like everything else, easy access makes living a moral life that much harder.

They say Facebook causes more divorce than anything else, Im sure it causes more marriages too, but in the day, it was reasonable for two people to be content with what they have, and with only small amount of temptation, like someone you might meet at work, or whatever, but for the most part life was pretty regimented, and designed to keep the machine moving along.

Secret desires, were secret desires, no harm, no foul

But now, all those things are accessible. People say damn, "Why could I have met this one or that one before I got married"

Like my dad used to say "Locks are for honest people" A lock deters decent people from getting an idea of breaking in, not hardened criminals.

The internet has no locks, so even the decent people are getting pulled in.

I know its easy to blame the internet for society woes, but truth is, we didn't have these issues before it.

If you had to go to a video store to buy a dirty video, you felt like the weirdest person on earth, but when that was no longer needed, more and more people started doing it online.

Sometimes good surroundings make good people. Sometimes good kids make good parents.

As far as women in porn, it may have started as degrading women, but if you have watched it at all, the women seem to be having alot more fun with it than the guys.

I can feel sorry for somebody forced into it, but women who are walking the walk, are doing it for money, and because they like doing it.

And again, the internet plays a big role in it. When women see women becoming famous, making crazy money, and people talking so acceptingly of it, they figure why not? beats making 25 k a year as a secretary.

And the cat is out of the bag, the only thing to hope for is that people start to get bored.

We have a nation of kids and adults hooked on porn, as bad as any drug, when we didnt have this problem before the net.

They have to do rehab like a drug addict just to change their brain back to normal.

I think social media is starting to bore people, and maybe over time alot of things will change for the better

Haha, I wasn't making the point that porn was a positive thing, I mentioned it to show that even if you disagree with things, it needen't be restricted from public space.

I realize that Nashville is in the bible belt, and I'm fine with religion, really. Lots of fine Christian people, and very few have radical and fundamentalist views (Old Testament).

I was just under the impression that country music was bigger than just the Bible Belt, and heard all over the US, which is why I was surprised about the ban from "country radio" in general.

I may understand why (some) CCM stations won't play the Little Big Town song, but why wouldn't country radio in general?

I can't blame the internet or facebook for divorce. You married the wrong person if that's all it takes to cheat. We're responsible for what we do.

There are STILL a bunch of yahoo's in trucks with a confederate flag on the back window all over the listening public in so called Country Radio....I don't have much patience for them. A Lot of Jingoism in Country Music but in the end it's all about the bottom line and money...PERIOD end of story.

It's not banned on every country radio station but it has been banned in enough to seriously affect the songs billboard standing. It's consisently been one of the top selling country songs on iTunes and streaming services. Enough that it'd normally be in the top 5 on the charts.

Why not? Is every kid who downloads music illegally a bad kid or a criminal? No, it's because the sites are all over the place and begging kids to go there and download it.

Most of these kids wouldn't walk into a music store and steal it, and they probably wouldnt want have the music they steal, they steal it cause it's easy and it;s there.

Why isnt that any different than a married person, cheating on their spouse because the net makes it so easy if not begs them to do it.

Doesnt make the person a bad person either, it's just a little tempation is easier to covercome than way too much temptation.

it;s the same thing with rock stars. We can talk about their morals and the lives some of them live, but in most circumstances, when you can have any woman you want, youre going to have it, we are wired that way anyway, nothing we can do about it, except fault the people taking advantage of it.

If a dude said he cheated because facebook made it easier is his ex wife going to lose her court case against him? Probably not. He's probably gonna get pwnd by judge and owe her all kinds of money.

Just Plain Quotes
"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
