Vic Arnold done his incredible magic on this one I had up on board 3,and made this song sing. Any feedback is much appreciated. https://soundcloud.com/vic-arnold/the-whip-crackers-daughter The Whip Crackers Daughter (c) 2014 Geneva Griffin/Vic Arnold Verse 1 She wouldn't ride ace high, on the trail to California, Her daddy in the bone yard. Her man gone west for gold Driven 'cross bad lands, by a hired out buffalo soldier. A pocket advantage, sewn into her pettycoat. Verse 2 That California Widow, done her share'a belly-achin', The blue-belly yank, had tough bacon to save. Tho she got hell-fired up, aired her lungs daily, Her travelin' companion, never put her in her place. Chorus He burned the breeze He baked the horses While she wagged her finger, cussed and moaned, used all she dared employ Still bad blood between 'em, but although the war was over, a whip cracker's daughter couldn't bow to a whippin' boy. Verse 3 It'd been a coon's age since, they'd left the plantation and those cotton blossoms, strung up by copperheads.. turned his face ghostly pale and she struggled for a reason but they sang a soulful hymm, and then buried the dead. Chorus He burned the breeze He baked the horses While she wagged her finger, cussed and moaned, used all she dared employ Still bad blood between 'em, but although the war was over, She a whip cracker's daughter and him a whippin' boy. Bridge (maybe spoken, or just the last 3 lines?) Then one cold October mornin' they were dry gulched by Shoshone, He drew both blue lightning's, left them lying in the draw, She whispered "you're a free man now" then keeled right over, Her words set his heart to fly like it never had before, Years went rolling passed by and when they laid that brother down the words were chiselled on his stone ... "you're a free man now ..." Chorus He burned the breeze He baked the horses While she wagged her finger, cussed and moaned, used all she dared employ Still bad blood between 'em, and now the war was over, for the whip cracker's daughter and the whippin' boy.

Hey, Vic...and Nightengale...
That was really, really, really good!! I hear a soundtrack for a western movie. Especially enjoyed the pedal steel and the picking was pretty good as well. Nice work...I appreciate the very creative lyrics as well...

Hi Geneva & Vic, I can't tell you both how impressed I am with how this turned out. I especially like this line.... He burned the breeze He baked the horses this kind of a cool song puts me in my place and makes me wonder IF I should be trying to make songs. thanks for the cool entertainment. Well done....Zane Grey...great production and performance A nit is that without the written lyric, it could be hard to follow...maybe thin out the herd....it will be difficult to cut the babies out.

Thank you Diff.
Mostly got Geneva to thank for the colourful lyric. She has a vivid imagination and a fine palette of lyrics.

Hey Vic/Geneva!
This was super! Loved the story--passionate and well written. Nice work with the production and performance here Vic. Get this one to Hollywood, we could use a "Western Revival Movement" there!

I appreciate your comment Colin!
This song is post civil war era. It's about the continued strong emotion, conflicts, her distrust, his low self esteem, etc, between a black hired man and a white woman raised as a slave owners daughter on a journey. The song really isn't about the journey, that's back story. It's more about how they came to terms with each other thru hardships and over time.
It was written using a lot of civil war and slang from the times to try and make it interesting and different. (I always have to be different ,that's just me [laughing].
I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I knew this one wouldn't work for everyone, but hoped it would really impact those that it did.

Hi Neil. Thanks for the comment. Yes that's right. I wonder how much of a lyric most people do follow. They remember the opening of the verse and most of the chorus if it's hooky, but that's about all.
I hope this one has enough hookiness and mystery to keep folks interested.

Tammy. There you are. We thank you very much for your comment. I agree it's not what you might call a "pop" or "modern" lyric, but I felt it was right for this type of song.
Sort of takes me back on a journey to that time when people thought and spoke of different things.

I read a lot of Civil War and reconstruction period history so the lyric was rather immediate and effective. And the vocals and overall production support the feel really well.
Really enjoyed this one and as mentioned it definitely has a "movie feel" to it.
Great collab y'all!

Thanks for listening, Kurt. I always leant that way since I was a kid, don't know why. My favourite aunt said I'd be a cowboy one day but my least favourite uncle used to say he could see the rope burns round my neck.

Hi Geneva & Vic ...
A great example of Americana. Super lyric and Vic's voice is just right. That was one fine listen. Can't find a single thing to complain about or to suggest for improvement.
The musical bed is just perfect. Everything is just where it needs to be. great job. Congrats to both of you!
