Last Song
I'm writing you my last song, before my mind moves along It's true what the doctors say, though know my heart's still strong No matter who i'll be tomorrow, please see me as i was Cause somewhere inside this hollow shell,is still for you my love
The years we spent together, was the life i've always dreampt And the words in our wedding vows,we honor what they meant I only wish it wouldn't end,in a world i don't want to go But as a lover and a friend,my love for you still grows
For some we age with finesse and grace That's why they're golden years But for others like us each passing day Is rusting from our tears
I'm writing from my thoughts, and the words are easy to find But there will be tomorrows,i'll only draw blanks from my mind And when you put your hand in mine,i hope that i know why But i don't know if i'll wonder, why i smile as you cry
I'd just like to thank you now,for the love you always gave I always bragged you were my saint, your heart's so strong and brave I hate to put you in this place,it's not how a love should end But when you look into my empty eyes,i'll see your love shine in
For some we age with finesse and grace That's why they're golden years But for others like us each passing day Is rusting from our tears

Mike, a touching song about the cruelest final fight. We all know the ending. You've captured the heartbreak of facing and preparing for the battle.

Wow Mike, very emotional and strong. That disease afflicts so many. It's such a cruel end.
Great write. Really, great.

thanx for the read Dave, yes i'm sure it's very heartbreaking for a family.I don't know anyone who has/had it but something similiar happen to my dad at the end of his cancer battle but a lot of it was the meds that made him forgetful and talking a bit out of his mind. Mike

Hi Mike,
I can probably relate to this as much or more than most folks. My mother died from Alzheimer disease. She was first diagnosed when she'd forget little things, like turning the water off after washing dishes. It was several little things like that. The day after she was diagnosed, the family got together and was told. We were all very scared not knowing what was to come. In the next 6 years I watched my mother mentally fade away. It was only 2 years after she was diagnosed, that at times she couldn't remember who I was. I can't tell you the pain. A year later she never knew who anyone was, or who she was. When or if she looked your way it was if no one was there at all. I mean nothing at all. There's no way I can describe it. The ups and downs were gone. My mother was truly gone.
She lived a couple of years like this, needing to be taken care of like a newborn. She passed one night, and the doctor said her brain was at a point of not being able to sustain life. He explained it best by saying her brain could not ever tell her body to breathe. I posted my lyric (Life's Now Passing Her By) about a month ago I guess. A lot different than yours, though about the same thing none the less. Enough about my story.
Your lyric is great. It feels heartfelt like you have been there. Since you haven't you say, it makes this all the more impressive. Excellent write my friend!
David

No matter how wonderful things were and how much love you had, your life still ends. Makes it all seem futile, doesn't it?

Howdy Mike, sweet sentiments expressed with care. I have had a small taste of this from seizures caused by scar tissue, resulting from a stroke 5 years ago which manifested itself as retrograde amnesia..With the right meds, I'm good 2 go now.....Gus

Howdy Mike, reading thru all the comments above, I notice there isn't even one suggestion....that's the sign of a good song! I'm only seeing one place where it is slightly vague and could maybe made clearer. V1 L4 consider replacing "somewhere" with "the heart" .......KOS...........Gus
