Hey Bugsey...... It was in Kendal Florida many moons ago and I was playing solo with my guitar and a $35 Drum Machine. Getting ready for my 4th freaking set at 3 PM and nobody was there. I asked the owner if I could not play unless somebody else came in. He said he's paying me for 4 stets and that's how many he expected me to play. SO.....I played my heart out and after my last song which I think was My Way......I stopped and started to put my guitar away and the Chinese Cook came out and gave me a standing O.....lol.....It was priceless and should be in a Video....lol Hope all is well.. B

Barry,
This is fantastic! Great song/lyrics & music! I really like these lyrics--Chapin or Billy Joel quality with these lyrics and this story. Kudos to Phyllis Barash for these lyrics.
Nice job.

B yes memories. I played in a two man band one night in a bad nearby city, nobody was at the bar, that is until a busload of high schoolers broke down right in front of the bar. We had an audience, but they were inner city city kids who didnt know rock n roll from coca cola. Started giving us mean faces as if to stop playing, but hey we were workin hard for that 75 bucks! ahh yes, then there was the time I nearly beat up one guy for acting like a total jerk, he kepts comin over by my foot pedals and stepping on them, the first two times i let it go, the third time it was all on! Pushed him into the front row...nobody was there. then he got up in my grill and said he'd stick my guitar up my ... Then the resident drunk of the place came over and escorted the guy out, and then he requested My Way by Frank Sinatra! LOL Cant make this stuff up!

Hey Eddie.....I'll pass this on to Phyllis. BTW...she is 83 and I met here 25 years ago. She wrote the Book and Lyrics to Dog Show The Musical and I wrote all the music and she has written or co written lyrics with me for about 100 songs. Mostly I write my own words these days. We were discussing a situation where she went to a play in the afternoon on Collins Ave. Miami Beach and NOBODY was there except her. There were 6 people in the show and she could see how disappointed. WELL....in her amazing way went up towards the stage and told them that SHE Was there and would LOVE to see the show. She sat in the front row in the middle seat and LOVED the Show.....SO....an Audience of one is good enough. Nobody promised us an Audience anyway. We create and put our work out there and leave the rest to the ethers.
That night at the club.....I think I had a lot of vodka's, smoked a joint and probably had at least one Quaalude...lol
BUT that Hand I got from the Chinese Cook really Meant a lot to me and Made My Night.

I've not been the musician, but I have been the audience (as a stranger) for some of the greatest performances.
You've captured that 'passion of art' perfectly.

Hi Barry , I enjoyed the story and performance .
"I GAVE IT MY ALL MY SOUL AND MY HEART PERFORMED IN THIS SHOW FOR THE PASSION OF ART"
Can`t ask for more than that . All the best Jan
