I think the title of this may be a little trite...and I'm not sure about their biggest worry getting out of bed..was trying to point to that young people sleep a lot. I remember it well! Wild and Free v.1 I remember that flashy Mustang he used to drive around Top down, radio blaring, we’d cruise the town Trying to leave our childhood back there in the dust Looking for a dream that wouldn’t rust P/C Youth’s illusions—it didn’t last One day he and his car drove away fast Chorus But I can’t forget that feeling Of running wild and free Wind to our backs, clear blue skies as far as we can see If someone asked me today what do you want to be You know I’d have to answer Wild and free, wild and free v.2 Me and my best friend Ellie walked the Jersey shore Surf lapping our painted toenails while the ocean roared School’s out for summer, only fun ahead Our biggest worries hadn't happened yet P/C Youth’s illusions—it didn’t last One day we grew up—life became a task Chorus But I can’t forget that feeling Of running wild and free Wind to our backs, clear blue skies as far as we can see If someone asked me today what do you want to be You know I’d have to answer Wild and free, wild and free Bridge Life has it compensations I’m wiser now than then But some days I think I’d trade it all in To be back there again Chorus ‘Cause I can’t forget that feeling Of being wild and free Wind to our backs, clear blue skies as far as we could see If someone asked me today what do I want to be You know I’d have to answer Wild and free Wild and free © Betty Holt, May, 2014

The "wild and free" idea is used a lot. I've used it a couple of times. Youth is definitely filled with illusions. Maybe all life is.

Michael, glad you could relate. And Jim, yes, I'm afraid I've used an idea that's been used a lot, and I agree, illusions never seem to go away!

Betty, looks pretty darn good to me. Really nice flow to it. V2 does seem to precede V1 chronologically and "sports car" seems dated but this is really good to me.

Thanks, John. I had wondered about switching verse 1 and 2. She could've been a little younger in verse 2. What would they call sports car now?

This song has shades of the late 1950's and early 1960's in it. Reminiscent of maybe the Beach Boys and some of the acts that came before them? Don't know if this was what we had in mind, but it seems as though young folks these days can't be wild and free like many who remember those much more innocent times could. I believe we are in a time when we're looking for revitalizing passion for life, and thrilling experiences. Can we enjoy the awakening when it comes?

You could change it to "Being what I want to be".

Betty, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, and some others are still cool. Short bed chevys probably or many varieties of pickup, jeep or classic. Even a harley or a tuner car like in Fast and Furious could be cool.

"Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end. We sing and dance forever and a day......" Yep! Can relate Betty.
Good lyric.
