I'd like to apologize for posting so soon, but this song came to me very quickly and I had to put it up.

comments ok.

Pile It On My Grave

Caught dead to right-
in the cover of the night
but the point that I'll be makin' is-
is that things they all went wrong

I have a sin
eating thru my skin
and every thought that I can think
are the ones that are not right

I knew very well- that the story I would tell
could weigh me down on me own defense
and wouldn't fare me well

what I'm tryin' to say- is all the money that I made
could never mount enough for my offense
so pile it on my grave- just pile it on my grave
my friend

I have a sin
eating thru my skin
and every thought that I can think
are the ones that are not right

I knew very well- that the story I would tell
could weigh me down on me own defense
and wouldn't fare me well

what I'm tryin' to say- is all the money that I made
could never mount enough for my offense
so pile it on my grave- just pile it on my grave
my friend

You have a good sound on this one. Maybe it is retro and a 60's/70's style, but it is sort of cool. If you want to modernize it, maybe consider how Mumford and Sons or the Lumineers would do it -- although those two bands certainly have an "old-timey" roots based foundation.

Hey Doug!

I was digging you Irish accent. This would have been a cool song for "The Cranberries," do you remember them from the late nineties?

I like this song, (I'm actually getting tired of telling you I like your songs), just kidding, you are consistent with writing good stuff, I must say. Cool song, the bass track for me "might" be a decibel or two strong--at least with my headphones, so you might check it on several different speaker types to find the best fit.

Nice write brother O'Healey!

Sounds really good as usual,Brother. Reminds me a lot of REM. Bass might be a bit too much out front. I know it's carrying the groove and is somewhat of a melodic bass line but it doesn't sit well in the mix. Other than that I see nothing to be improved upon.

Doug,

Awesome tune. I am going to disagree with Kevin on this one. I don't think this sounds retro at all. I think it is ver current. Give a listen to the Decemberists, one of my favorite current bands. This is exactly the kind of stuff they are doing and I think it is brilliant. Loved every second of this one. Sometimes the best tunes are the ones that come quickly. Kudos.

First: I liked the song a lot and it was well done...and now the buts

I think for the Americana and Christian genre an undistorted guitar or an acoustic guitar might be better. Maybe slide in the guitar part you already have off to the side for added punch occasionally.

The keyboard seemed a bit murky. You might want to try using an acoustic sounding piano or gawd forbid an actual acoustic piano.

It would add a more modern (or as Kevin said a more Mumford vibe). But it would still have it's own distinct sound.

Hey Stevie, I brought the bass down about 2 DBS... The line itself is something I should probably change.. It's the original loop when I started the creative process. ..but it works for now.

Hey Sue, thanks for the comments.. I tried the piano at one point in the making of the song. It didn't provide the feel I was looking for at the time. I have acoustic guitars in the mix, but they're buried.. I need to dig them out. As to muddiness in the synth sounds , I need to fix that, but I don't know how..I'm tryin'... It just needs to be mixed properly.

Hey Dave, thanks for the comment..I took a listen to the Decemberists, I see the similarities..thanks for letting me know about them. What a compliment..thank you Dave.

Hey Scotty, how ya? Thanks for the comment... I think this is one of the better lyrics I've written. It means a lot to me anyway.

Thanks Calvin and Raggy for your comments.

Have a great day. Doug

Hey Doug- I have seen you bring forth several wonderful pieces. This is no exception.. You did a lovely job here, and like Dave, I feel this has a contemporary flavor. A couple different instruments, and could easily be marketed to a young audience. The subject applies to young and old. Congrats on your fine pieces Doug. Wishing you the best_Bobby

Very good! Very. Good lyrics and fresh melody. If I wrote Christian music I'd want to write something like "Pile It On My Grave."

If I went to a concert, I'd want to hear it.

Doug,

Wow! Dig this tune a lot. As others have already mentioned, this rocks. My first impression of the vocals gave me a really good Michael Stipe feeling. In fact, the entire melody could be on an REM set somewhere.

I know most of us are working on home studio gear, so I'll say this is a righteous recording. Really impressive. The intro was a bit harsh. I'd ease into it. Let it taper a couple of seconds into full volume. Center the high hat with the drums if it's on a separate track.

Loved the harmonies and I'll say it again, REM.

I can not find anything wrong lyrically. Pile It On My Grave is such a cool hook. The opening line caught me for the whole song. And I'm very jealous by the way you used your rhyming scheme. Very cool.

If there was a Like button, it would be "Like+1". wink

Thanks Chap, I moved the hat closer to the center and tapered the intro volume as you suggested. Ok..now what?
