Okay, I have a big, ridiculous grin on my face right now because Mike Kruse took the Pop-Tart lyric I posted on Forum 3 and absolutely RAN AWAY with it, adding the most hilarious lines and putting it to super cool music! He also sings it to perfection! I'm blown away by what he's done, and could not have asked for anything more fitting for this Pop-Tart song, or to commemorate this poor little Maryland boy's unfortunate circumstance! Thank you SO much, Mike! Thanks also to John Voorpostel and Stan Good for their great additions to this lyric! John V. honed, shaped and polished the first and second verses, while Stan came up with the neat "could be double" line in the chorus! (I'll also mention that it's my sister who alerted me to the news story, and when I wrote back that I was going to write a lyric about it, she e-mailed back two words: "chew, chew!") --- Lisa CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Music by MikeKruse/TaggyLee Copyrighted 2013 Words by Mike Kruse and Lisa Gundling INTRO This song is brought to you by make-believe foods The foods that everyone loves Munching on a poptart In his second grade room Eating 'round the edges Chompin' on it tasted good Started with a mountain 'Cause clmbing them looks like fun Turns out he broke the rules When he nibbled out a gun CHORUS CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Another kid kicked out of the classroom CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM What's this world coming to Didn't swallow the evidence Had no food permit Now he can't conceal it The final verdict Guilty As you stand This boy has no chance He's a menace to society He's guilty CHORUS CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Who knew a boy could chew his way to trouble CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM If he said bang you know it'd be double CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Another kid kicked out of the classroom CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM What's this world coming to CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Who knew a boy could chew his way into trouble CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM If he said bang you know it'd be double CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Another kid kicked out of the classroom CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM What's this world comin' to CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM CHEW CHEW BOOM BOOM Kid got suspended Teacher was commended Pastry robbery is his next planned event OUTRO No foods were hurt in the making of this song

This was a ridiculous story but unfortunately it is not unique. A child in Michigan got in trouble for putting green army men on his birthday cupcakes. I am soooo thankful I grew up in a time where I was allowed......no encouraged to use my imagination. And you can suspend all the little boys you want, it still won't change the fact that a stick is a pretend gun, sword, or a spear. Its what boys do.
By the way nice tune Mike. Very Devo-esque! Good lyrics as well Lisa!

Cute rendering of a ridiculously serious story you guys and gal. Why weren't there all these tragic mass killings back in the day when we played war games with toy guns, sticks and other impliments of destruction against imaginary Nazis and other bad people. It's a societal and cultural thing these days, not playing with toys. There was another kid a few months ago who got suspended from second grade for throwing an imaginary hand grenade into an empty box to kill off imaginary bad guys and save the world. Everything is upside down and inside out from what it once was.
Sorry. I didn't mean to get on the soap box. Anyway, back to the song, it reminded me of Devo in style with some biting humor behind it. Nice work to all involved.
Stevie
I'm the only person here who is not unique.

Hey Lisa, Mike,
I felt like I was watching an M-TV video 1984--remember that J-Giles song? Very clever, funny, yet serious. No question that the chorus hook will stay with you with this one!

Hi Scotty -- Accurate description of what happened to that poor kid! Thanks for checking this out! --- Lisa
Hi Todd -- I heard about those banned cupcakes! The soldiers were WWII soldiers, and I think it was the boy's father who was furious that WWII vets soldiers would be equated, in the children's minds, with the lunatic shooter in Connecticut! Thanks for your nice comments! -- Lisa
Hi Stevie -- I agree with you! Plus, at some point in our history, I heard that school boys used to come to school with their guns and hang them in the coat closet! Regarding the hand grenade issue...I wrote a lyric about that incident on forum 3 a few weeks ago called "Real Evil Forces," whereby the world was destroyed because the boy was stopped from saving us -- lol! Mike really put the bite in the humor and I'm loving it -- thanks so much! -- Lisa
Hi Tom -- I love that you're loving it! Thanks!! -- Lisa
Hi Eddie -- I'll have to check out that video, but I do see what you mean that this has the feel of actually watching a video! I'm delighted that you like this -- thanks! -- Lisa

I had not heard about this story. Am I to understand a kid got kicked out school because he chewed/sculpted a pop tart into the shape of a gun? Wow ... that is taking things a bit too far. Regardless, it resulted in a rockin' tune so there is always a positive that flows from these kind of rediculous events. I am still shaking my head. I am hoping someone will tell me that is not really what happened.
Anyway, I had alot of fun listening. Nice work you two.
Dave

YOUALL--
It's dumb, but I like it. There's an underlying story here, though--beware of the real gangsta--when I was a kid in the mountains, we shot at each other with .22's--now not many around remember those days--THIS ONE REMINDS ME OF SHA--BOOM, SHA-BOOM for some reason!

Mike Kruse, so very nice to see you sir!!
Lisa and all involved, very cute and clever and very 80's sounding and lots of fun!!
On the vocal, it sounded great but there were a few words that didn't get pronounced clearly (the ends got missed)like "verdict", I am only mentioning it becausse songs where there is more of a spoken sing-song, I think the clarity of the words sticks out.
This is all very creative and I'm glad I listened!

Hi Dave -- Unfortunately, it's really what happened! The next day, the school sent out a notice saying that a child made a threat with a food item. As you said, though, this song is something good that came of it! Mike did make it ROCK! Thanks for your visit! -- Lisa

Great collaboration. The music and the lyrics go well together. It really captures the ridiculousness we have to live with now simply by telling the story.

Hi Vondelle -- Thanks so much! I called the Pop-Tart boy's lawyer and told him about the song a couple of weeks ago. He said that a state senate hearing was being held about the issue (the lunacy is becoming a problem in my state), and asked if I wanted to go to the hearing and play the song -- LOL! I wanted to go, but couldn't work my schedule around it, so I missed it! -- Lisa

Hey Mike and Lisa, a ridiculous Punishment, but the song and the music are superb, I guess we have to poke fun at our overkill on tolerance in schools, otherwise we'd all be crying like the littel boy with the pop tart. Nicely done.~~~Matt

Hey Matt -- Yes, "ridiculous" is a good word for it! When they interviewed the little boy he said something like, "it looked like a gun -- but it wasn't." A lot of wisdom there, lol! Mike did do a superb job with this -- thanks for stopping by! -- Lisa

I wish this was just a clever song with a goofy message instead of a story taken from the headlines!
What a great eye for detail and a clever ear for lyrical nuances! This worked on so many level and if it wasn't so troubling, would've been funny(er).
Kudos to the team! I'm gonna see your pop tart gun and raise you a peanut butter sandwich chewed into a mallet. I'm creative like that.

Hi Terrill,
Oh no -- don't tell me it's so! I have to go look that up! I've written about four incidents so far, and I told myself I was going to memorialize each one for each child. But, I've already fallen woefully behind and now you say there's yet ANOTHER one!
Thanks for the heads up!

I freaking love this quote:
"But Suffolk Public Schools spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw said a pencil is considered a weapon when it's pointed at someone in a threatening way and gun noises are made..."
Technically, the same argument could be made of a .357 magnum...

Hi Terrill,
Thanks for the link to the story! That quote IS a classic! Now, if they wanted to get the boys into trouble because one of them could lose an eye if they're not careful, then that would be a legitimate complaint!
Also, yes, I did cover the fake hand grenade story a few months ago. Below is the lyric for that one.
Thanks for keeping me in the loop about the Pencil Gun!
--Lisa
REAL EVIL FORCES
Little boy with a fake grenade Threw it into a box Filled with fake evil forces Until his teacher yelled "STOP!"
Pretending fast he took it back That weapon retreated Into his trembling fist You could hear his heart beat
CHORUS As those Real Evil Forces were unleashed Upon the universe, like a Star Wars fleet A chilling laugh came from somewhere below As the world turned dark and a cold wind began to blow
His teacher's true face was revealed Too hideous to see He covered his eyes from the sight But had to make his plea
"There's time to save the earth," he yelled Her ugliness just grew Fearful he shouted, "let me go!" Yet she didn't have a clue
CHORUS (w/ change) As those Real Evil Forces were unleashed Upon his universe, like a Star Wars fleet A chilling laugh came from somewhere below As the world turned dark and a cold wind began to blow

Mike & Lisa, This is quite a novelty song. The chew chew! Boom Boom! is a clever hook. That guitar going on in the background reminds of the acid rock music of the 60s. Something like the Doors or the MC 5 might have done. Since this is based on a true story, let's hope the youngster rousted out of school over the Pop Top gun survives his harrowing ordeal and brush with fame. Life becomes more and more surreal each passing day.

This is really cute and about a real circumstance..which makes me sick...
maybe the boy will end up going to "Hells' Kitchen" for being such a bad boy..
I enjoyed this, nothing to add to it for improvement..well done to all involved

Hi Dan,
I think that Mike will appreciate your musical comparisons -- very good company indeed! The fact that this song is based on a true story gets to me...I hope the kid is able to just put it behind him.

Hi Kim,
Maybe he will be headed there one day -- LOL! He's already dealt with a teacher crazier than anything he could experience in "Hell's Kitchen" so he's well-prepared!
I'm so glad you liked this -- thanks for having a listen and letting us know!
