I agree with most of what you say Dak.....I have more mics than you can shake a stick at. These four mics are worthy of being in any locker BUT I was just saying that most people in the $300 price range as a starter pack would be better with one or two good workhorse mics of slightly better quality than 4 mics that are lower down the range.
Some of the Chinese studio mics are OK for around $200...and we are talking about a $300 outlay so one of those and a SM58 would cost the same budget but give a bit better quality.
I sometimes use top end of market mics costing several thousand bucks......does not make ME sound any better....LOL

PS I meant half decent for $200...you get what you pay for.
IMO mics are probably the most important part of any home studio or a bands PA equipment...If you get it wrong it will sound terrible even if other equipment you use is top notch.
