Personally, I have a couple of beta 58's that I don't let the general public use. When I run an open mic or do a gig with other performers I put them on regular 58's.
I started getting picky years ago when after a gig we were breaking down. The first thing to get put away were the mics. The other singer took off his foam windscreen and it plopped on the stage and splattered.
