With all my own health issues over the past few years, I've learned that all the difference is made by who the doctors are, how engaged they are in you as a patient and using a little common sense in the process. I had all sorts of extreme suggestions as well as the opposite, people who thought I should do nothing. I chose neither approach and I've gotten a lot better (haven't "cured" anything.. but doing a lot better and have some quality of life back). Whatever the results of this are (and I am guessing you may know by this time) at least take control of your situation and be directly engaged at every step, whether you choose treatment or not. Don't let others make decisions for you and don't be afraid to challenge what health care folks say if it doesn't sit right with you.
