Hi Folks,

I am a bit late posting this because I was up all night finishing the round 2 leaders in the lyric awards. Big congrats to those who made it to round 2!

It once again demonstrates that our system is fair to everyone. We actually had Grammy nominees and winners, Emmy winners, Major Cut songwriters, and tons of previous JPF Award nominees and winners in the mix and some moved forward and some did not. Had we simply looked at credentials and notoriety like most awards programs do, many folks who made it to round 2 would not have and vice versa. I can't imagine a more fair and equitable music awards process than ours.

We find the same issues in our other categories. We've had top tier world famous artists entered who didn't make it out of round 1 (of 6 rounds) in the general awards. We still have some in the running as well. If we only used their fame, it would be easy to fill the nominations slots with nothing but well known artists and writers. But our system really works to ignore the fame and success factor (or lack thereof) and simply vote on what moves us. Occassionally I actually hope that a particular artist will do well because I've been a long time fan, but when their number is up and they don't have the votes/support to move forward, they get cut right along with anyone else. One of my personal all time favorite artists got cut this year (someone with world wide fame) but it was clear that the other songs and albums in their category were simply better. That would never happen in most other awards where album sales and fame make all the difference. (This person has likely sold more albums than all the rest of JPF nominees combined). Fair is fair. Their stuff just wasn't as good as their JPF peers this year.

We have some exciting news on the Awards venue front and hopefully I will be announcing that very soon on the Blog and home page. I hope all of you will have a fun and safe long weekend. I know I'll be working on the music awards, but when you're listening to stuff this good, it's not bad work to do on a holiday weekend!

Have a great day all!

Brian
