Good of you to deride my post and introduce politics into your response Marty. " Really solidifies the ground you stand on. John, This is a political thread. Not my origination, but as long as it's here, I will view it and participate in it as a political thread. If you are going to advocate for political rants in threads, it isn't fair to tell me that I can't participate. As stated many times, if I see a political thread, I will participate in whatever manner..."makes me happy"... in that moment. I get to do that too? Right? Truthfully, I enjoy talking politics. But it's costly. I had a high school buddy that I have known since I was 16 years old. He lives in a Texas county where he and his wife are 2 of about 12-20 democrats. He has TDS. My wife and I would spend the day with him every month or two and he would Trump-rant sporadically. It didn't upset me because I always liked him and live in a blue city so I'm used to Trump eruptions from libs. One day, I decided to present another way of looking at his viewpoints on politics in general and included a look at some of the holes and inconsistencies in his beliefs. I was calm, matter of fact, and a couple of beers into the day. To me it was a debate, not an argument. He waited for our next get together and laid into me about it. Insulting and rude. I listened and then announced that, his insults would wrap up the day. My wife and I cut them off. His wife would text and we ghosted. He called about two months later, expressed regret and apologized. However, based on Maya Angelou's advice, I informed him that he had crossed a threshold of insults that couldn't be undone and that if it happened again, I would respond differently...so best to call things over and done. 5 decades of friendship with someone who I enjoyed seeing and to some extent, defined my life, destroyed in 30 minutes...over liberal politics and an inflamed obsession with Donald Trump. And no, I don't care to try it again with him. I'm a big believer in a couple of Maya Angelou quotes. And a separate issue, his wife was a mental case who could enter massively sour moods without reason, which could be a little hard to endure as an afternoon wore on. Optimal walk away. Am I crying myself to sleep about it? No. But it's unfortunate. In case you missed the point, introduce politics and religion into any situation and damage is likely.
