A Divide And Conquer 'Culture' emerges from time to time in Human history.
The whole world has had to stand together to stop it, many times.
It can emerge in a family, a workplace, any 'unit' where people are supposed to work together, a Song-Writing site in cyberspace.
There emerges an individual, who attracts other individuals, pro and con, and they divide among themselves, and then bleed into other members of the unit, dividing, thinking they're conquering.
Socrates said to new students, "Speak, that I may see you."
The dividers speak, and we see them. We divide, some joining in the rhetoric and exchange, others, going away, quietly, without us knowing they were observing, reading, seeing, hearing, deciding, dividing.
Some individuals complain about it, and then dive right in, divided, conquered of their own volition.
Writing Songs. What is there to be 'divided' about. I like it. I don't like it. I can offer suggestions. I can't offer anything.
I can, I do. I can't, I move on.
Every Song is a learning experience, educating the Song-Writer toward the next Song, if they are studious. Other Song-Writers can help them see the flaws, see the gems, make fewer mistakes, create more gems, if... that big little word... if there's unity of purpose, not division and self-indulgence.
Members of the 'unit' don't insult, call people names, become engaged in argument that is no longer about the 'Song', 'steal' the original post of the member to indulge in their mood of the moment.
For the person posting, finally finding the courage and bravado to take a chance, the Divide And Conquer Culture becomes a negative that turns them away.
Choices an individual member makes affect other people, emotionally.
A laughable Lyric, a vocal execution that lacks the skill of the greats, whatever one's personal opinion is, you don't have to express it at all. You could just move on. Totally optional.
Some opt to turn it to feces, walk in it, handle it, rub it on their own faces and the faces of others who have no idea why you're being so cruel.
It's self-indulgence, literally the mood you're in that day. And indifference to that 'effect' you 'cause' in someone, sight-unseen, out there in cyberspace, living in their own personal hell, and trying, through Song-Writing to find a little joy in that personal life experience.
But some are so focused in their own 'human condition' they can't find empathy for the cyberspacers. It's all about 'me', 'my' experience today.
One of you posted wanting all the other 'members' to Vote about them, as if we've all been following along in the s--tstorm of your conflicts and have an opinion on which of you is the bigger s--thead. We haven't, or at least, I haven't. I moved on. In fact, when I see the Divide And Conquer Culture member's name I don't even click on that thread. I may look to see if some other member posted the original thread, and then open it. Or, sometimes, I know I've see the last person commenting was one of the Divide And Conquer Culture, and I'm not interested in seeing what they had to say. I don't expect to see them talk about Song-Writing, or offering feedback. I have an expectation to see insult, name-calling, division.
If it's such an unpleasant experience you feel you have to confront, why come here? Why make all the rest of us experience it from your point of view? Why not just move on, find something you can comment on from a positive point of view. Enrich your own experience instead of ruining someone else's.
I'm sure there have been people who come here, become official 'members', and then never post, and I speculate that it is because of the experience they have as they read what happens in too many threads, the Divide And Conquer Culture take over, hijack, make it unpleasant.
Enough. Too much. If you have to pee, go to the privacy of your bathroom. Don't do it here all over everybody else's shoes.
