The cognitive dissonance is dizzying, feeling so much the emotions from Mark Ruffalo’s Golden Globe speech; but trying to make this GRAMMY’s moment about ancestral connection and community uplift wherever I can.
I am proud to be here with my musical brother in arms Justin Robinson and with my nephew and next generation Joe Thompson disciple Demeanor. The nomination for a stripped down fiddle and banjo (and bones!) recording (which sounds incredible thanks to the amazing Joe “Joe bass” Dejarnette) was a surprise and we are happy to plant the flag for old-time music, particularly North Carolina old-time music.
We are here together, and for now, that’s enough.
