It's a nice song John.
Corpus is a pretty little town up against the bay. Wife and I have gone there for a weekend several times over the years. The one issue in the song that is a suspect detail is that the Nueces River is the only one that flows into Nueces and Corpus Christi Bays. And once you're out of the bays the navigability of the river in any large boat is questionable and subject to water flow.
Nonetheless, I get the gist of your song. The Mississippi River in Louisiana or the Tombigbee River in Alabama might have fit the narrative a little better.
