A US copyright registration is no proof you wrote anything. I could send the Beatles in and get a registration on it. It does offer additional damages upon infringement, but you can register well after the fact and still get those extra benefits. Meanwhile, you will have to PROVE to a jury you wrote it, usually with oral testimony, previous recordings, performance dates, witnesses, and if you DID send it in for registration, that is a solid proof that you CLAIMED authorship on that date of the recording you sent in. Always a good idea when releasing an album to register the songs. No one who comes along later can then claim YOU infringed on them. But in the end, a jury will decide based on your testimony and theirs.
