I was using patterns but I was constantly cutting and pasting, plus if you own enough of the style sets there's something there for you in any situation.
Cymbals are only thing I think that lacks a little
I did go into midi mode often to change dead kick to a very like, or to change a beat that I can't find anywhere. Its hours of stringing segments together I focus on the song segments... V-Ch-Br-Solo... Generally, you only need 4-5 different pattern loops to create a song. The rest is just fills and accents. What I find difficult about "only" using presets is that they're all in a different style/swing/intensity. They generally don't mix well when you just "string them together." Yeah and the hits are heavier or lighter. You can buy a whole program of just generic beats, literally thousands of them, then through the m into the kit.

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
