Yeah Beatto does a great job deconstructing music and I like the basic message here.

I've been following Rick for some time. All his youtube stuff is great. Love how he figures out a chord structure in a few seconds of hearing it.


Essentially he says music is so vanilla these days because of an overuse of the same chord intervals and progressions...and he points to writers who went in unique directions and even changed keys back and forth to create unique melodies. McCartney also said you have to have at least one chord in your chorus that is unique to the song. Guess Beatto is saying...be daring

When music went away from bands to artists, I don't think the suits trusted the creativeness of many of the artists. They now have their formula and they're sticking with it. So much of today's music sounds the same, I think because they have taken those live musicians out of the picture.
