Just adding to Mikes original above

The Four Elements Of Music Melody, Harmony, Rhythm, And Dynamics

Tone - as in individually named musical notes, is a subject , that is not easily

understood by the average wannabe song writer , the higher a note becomes

to the human ear , it gets less definable until it cant be heard by most human beings

where as certain mammals have more advanced hearing and can hear them

Tone is a subject on its own and a study of it can improve chances of creating

better songs . When you pluck a guitars - A -string it vibrates at 110 hertZ as you

climb by adding 100 hertz EACH TIME you will increase the harmonics buy one

example 210 hertz you will hear Two Harmonics and 310 you will hear three harmonics

this process van carry on infinitely but that's also beyond my small response to

The Original Post

In Fact there are much more elements to music than four, but too many for this

One of the most important principles of songwriting is to remember that a good song is a partnership of many different components, all working together to produce a satisfying musical experience.

In that respect, song components are either enhancing or compromising their combined effects.
