Lifetimes/Lifelines Out Of The Woodwork © 1980 by Gary E. Andrews All Rights Reserved for the Globe
Chords: D XXO232 G 32OOO3 A XO222O C/G bass 332O1O (Verse I)
I sat up, Late last night, Tryin' to find an answer for pain. I started to smoke, But then I decided, That was part of this problem with pain. I started drinkin', Then I started thinkin', What somebody, Said to me. She said, "If you spend your lifetime, Cuttin' your lifeline, Where in the world will you be?"
(Chorus Refrain) Lifetimes/Lifelines. Ooo-oo-oo-oo-ee.
I came home, Late last night,Just to find myself all alone. I turned on T.V., But it didn't grab me, So I turned my radio on. Someone was playin'. Someone was sayin', "Com'on, And listen to me!" "If you spend your lifetime, Cuttin' your lifeline, Where in the world will you be?" Lifetimes/Lifelines. Ooo-oo-oo-oo-ee.
(Bridge) I came home, Late last night. I wrote down the words to this song. I was so tired, Imagination fired, And the chorus came along. Now I aint' no teacher. I'm certainly no preacher, Baby won't you listen to me? If you spend your lifetime,Cuttin' your lifeline, Where in the world will you be? Lifetimes/Lifelines. Ooo-oo-oo-oo-eee.

The Melody was fun to sing. It has crescendos I enjoy. And philosophy. I always enjoy philosophy. But it doesn't usually work for me in Song. I think the Singer-Character's First-Person conversational style made this one work for me. It has a Refrain-Type Chorus, a single line ending each Stanza. The arrangement could be reworked, going to the Bridge directly from Verse I, repeating the Bridge after Verse II. Or maybe it works as is, shorter, rather than longer. Take care of your lifeline.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

"First came if only? Then came what if? After that I'll bet. Next was just maybe. Followed by Aha, I thought so! And eventually, okay, what next!" -Brian Austin Whitney on the stages of creativity and Just Plain Folks.
