Not quite true Truman, Ray Charles did the duet with Willie much more recent than that..."Seven Spanish Angels" So Ray is acceptable.... what about Julio Iglasias? or is it only Uncle Kracker? "country" (not going to debate which are "real" country) singers doing a duet with non-country singers is a common occurance. has happened often over the years.
