My 14th and last FAWM song for this year. Now I just have to do the 2nd half of two songs and polish a teensy bit and send off the RPM CD with at least 10 songs (and up to maybe 12) by March 1st. My wife and I saw Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter friday night and they were beyond wonderful. They traded off songs, backed each up and did songs together. I sort thought of them as I was try to put this together. It's not the same, though (ha, ha). ************************************************************* Collision Course(c) Emmrich 2013(verse) thinking about an asteroid hurtling through space without any care in the world the laws of physics say it's gonna miss us would you put your trust in this (chorus) it's on a collision course with something out there it doesn't really care what it is it's destiny's in front it's past is behind I just wonder when it will hit (break) (verse) You and me are spinning through time our cares are slowing us down and if we stop and consider the meaning I wonder if we'll stick around (chorus) we're on a collision course with something out there I don't care to know what it is our destiny's in front and our past is behind I just wonder when we'll get hit Kevin: vocals, acoustic guitars BIAB: drum, bass, acoustic guitar, piano, pedal steel

Kevin, I like this one. It's an easy listening tune and you're the master of the BIAB. It all flows along as smooth as a mountain stream. Good work.

Hi Kevin.
Definitely an easy listening tune. I like the contrast in the laid-back music paired with a potential cataclysmic event. Nice write, I might prefer holding off on the harmony until at least the 2nd verse for a little more build--though I realize this isn't that type song per se. I enjoyed it very much--you also have a distinct vocal tone--it's you, and nobody else--a good thing!

Dan: Thanks for stopping by and taking this one for a spin -- it is appreciated!
Robert: Glad to see you popping in now and again. I hope all is going well and thanks for the listen
steady-eddie: Maybe I should have stayed away from harmony "words" in the fist chorus -- that's a good idea. When I revisit this in the future, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the listen and comments.

Mackie: Ha, ha -- thanks for the listen and the remarks. One can really write about anything! Michael: It doesn't take long to get good at BIAB, but it is never a straight trajectory and you are always learning. The main issue is that all the recorded parts from BIAB have the same volume and intensity. You have to find ways to overcome that in your DAW. Good luck with that - do you ever visit the BIAB Forum?

Hey Kevin,
Really nice relaxed feel on this one. The higher voice is very Neil Youngish, which I consider a very good thing. I really loved the acoustic solo break as well. I have no clue what BIAB is, but whatever it is, it sounds good so I guess that makes me a fan.

Hi Kevin,
I could listen to this over and over! It's cool how your two voices collide, in keeping with the lyric! You said you were inspired, and it sounds inspired!

Kevin, Second look at it. This has a real easy-going and mellow feel to it. It's a pretty tune. There's a lot of romance in it. . You got a good one here. And man, you get everything that can be gotten out of that BIAB. Good job, friend.

Hey Kevin, What a classic vibe, you've created.
Even above the lyrics themselves I found the way your voices meld together and compliment each other, touching.
I'm on my third listen and I love the energy of the 2nd verse.
As Lisa said, The piece sounds inspired.
It has a real lovely feel to it.
Expressive guitar solo.

I thought is was going to be too slow and easy going for the lyric - since it was an asteroid heading to hit something. However, Kevin I could see how the vibe would match it and I liked the progression from the "outer space" idea more to "personal space". That is a pretty cool concept.

Fabulous arrangement. Very comtemporary, heartfelt and relaxing. The break just literally swept me away so if that's you playing Wow! That's just really good stuff.
What I liked best about this song was it's familiar yet unique feel. The rhymes were not predictable and where you would necessarily expect them and the harmonies were well blended yet each voice distinctly heard. Your voice sounds as good as ever in this one and whoever that is singing with you was wonderful as well. Very nice Kevin, and memorable.

A reviewer (who I respect a lot) at another site sent me this (ha, ha): .. about the Collison Course song and the harmony. At first it was so out of rhythm I thought I had two windows opened at the same time, and they were out of sync with each other (not the case).
I've heard lot's of songs with same rhythm harmony, and songs with echoeing type harmony but they are in rhythm.
The competing version you are talking about sounded terribly out of snyc to me. I don't think it worked at all. Because it was so annoying I found myself being pulled away from the lyrics in the song and focusing on how out of rhythm the harmony was. Sorry!!! I understand what he meant - I was wondering if anyone here though the same thing? I sort of like the looseness in this one, but I did try and make it a little better (without re-recording) by just nudging some parts hither and yon! *********************************************************** GocartMoz: BIAB = Band In A Box. You select the tempo and key and then type the chords in. You can then pick a style/instruments and BIAB will do its best to build a good accompaniment -- it works pretty well. Thanks for stopping on by. Michael: Forum is here: http://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?lang=english Lisa: Thanks for that! Ha, ha -- not every one agrees. I did tighten it up today -- but only slightly. Thanks for the kind words and the listen. Dan: A second visit! Thanks a lot, it is always appreciated. Nelson: Hey, I haven't seen you around lately, glad to have you back. I did tweak the timing -- but not too much to lose the vibe (I hope). Thanks for the visit and the super kind words. I'll get back for the others a little later.

Calvin: Our goal is to entertain, isn't it? Thanks for stopping by and giving it a spin!
Doug: I hope all is going well for you. Thanks for giving it a listen and comments. Yea, the switch from the abstract to the personal is sort of one I try a do a lot for some reason. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't (ha, ha).
Bobby: Thanks for the super kind words, it is appreciated. That's me playing the lead -- sometimes the simplest leads are the best (learned that recently from Scott Campbell!). I am also doing all the vocals. Since this was part of FAWM and I couldn't spend lots of time on the song, I did use melodyne to bring the harmony into pitch a little better. I've finally learned to sing lead on pitch (more or less) after six years but harmonies are still pretty tough!
