Process of elimination check hub speed is compatible with the PC and the usb port you are using.... try using hub in a different usb port....or maybe if more than one device is connected to the hub they are drawing too much power than the PC delivers. Check that drivers are being installed properly....they should install immediately they are plugged into hub. Try a restart on your PC this sometimes cures problems. Try hub in another PC to see if hub is faulty. If no luck give make and model of hub and devices you are trying to use and model of laptop plus operating system you are using and we will try something else.

I have one of these USB extension hubs, made by Belkin. It won't recognize my keyboard or mouse, but recognizes every other device I've plugged into it, such as a floppy drive, thumb drives, cameras, and hard drives. So mine works for me.
You may need to try a few other devices, such as the ones I mentioned. I suspect some of these extensions don't recognize stuff needed by the boot up routine, but will recognize stuff initialized or added after boot up. Boot up critical stuff, such as your monitor, plug straight into the computer, but the other stuff can plug into the hub. Whether this meets your desires is another issue.

I would suggest using the laptop usb ports first before the hub...as the hub will slow down performance of all the devices connected to it. This will cause additional latency to recording and add unnecessary problems.
