Niteshift mention an older script of mine in the General Forum Thread where I'm going WOO-ZOOOOOOO all over the place:-)
It's a script that took me 5 years to write the 1st time, only to find out, through a couple of script swap reviews (& 2 paid critiques), that I had sort of missed the mark and the whole thing, while a GREAT concept, ended up being "too episodic".
So I shelved it and chalked it up to inexperience...That was 5 years ago...Then, a year and a half ago, I had a new idea about the 2 main protaganists that I let simmer...And THEN, a week or so ago, something clicked and I'm now hard and heavy on another rewrite...What "they" would call a "Page one rewrite", because I am changing darned near everything but the title and basic concept.
All of that to say:
Regarding rewrites....Whether it is a song, or a longer art form..Art????.....Whatever....Here's some, hopefully inspirational, trivia:
It wasn't until the 6th rewrite of The Sixth Sense....That's the SIXTH REWRITE, that M. Night realized that the Bruce Willis character was dead...Aren't you, and I bet M. Night also, glad he didn't stop at 5?
How's about THEM apples, Folks?
Onward!

GREAT thinking there!!!! As for that movie....(first let me preface with I DO NOT get a lot of movies right off the bat,,,as I ask my wife,,,,"what does THAT mean"? And, "Who do you think did it"? Etc. Well, a few minutes into The 6th Sense,,,,in the second row,,,I quietly leaned over and whispered into my wife's ear,,,,"Willis is DEAD, I can SENSE it. NO doubt". She looked at me funny, assuming I would AGAIN NOT have much of a clue in such a complex movie script. BUT, a little while later, after having that info to try to figure out if that's a possibility or not,,,she looked at me and just smiled as if saying,"Yeah,,,,you're right"? Buddy and his wife later found out what I knew,,,and they just laughed,,,until Cindy told them I DID actually say that to her just minutes into the film! LOL....Then they were shocked! "How did you know that?!!!! I just said, "I See Dead People"! hahaha. True story! Not since have I "gotten" films so early. NOW,,,do a similar GREAT rewrite,,,,and no matter how many more times it will take,,,until you KNOW you got something to sell! Well, go on,,,,get off here and get to WORK!!!! Too Little Time, ya know!!! LOL Imagine like never before! Johnny

Hey Midnite,
6 re-writes ? Wow, no wonder it came out so good.
Unlike Johnny and most of the audience, I didn't have a clue until the reveal at the end.
Great writing, and I'm sure you are on a roll also Bob.
cheers, niteshift

It's funny about that film. I had heard amazing stuff about it and how it had this mind blowing twist. I was excited to see it. I went with my mother and her friend. Within the first 2 scenes it was 100% clear to me that Bruce was dead. So I sat there, the entire film thinking the big twist was that he was actually alive and perhaps the kid was dead or something similar. I was SOOOO annoyed at the end to realize the twist was what I knew minutes into the movie. I even said to my mom and her friend well, I see something obvious but they both told me to shut up and not ruin it for them, but I didn't realize they didn't see the obvious either. I still don't get how anyone paying attention didn't notice Bruce never interacts with verbally with anyone else in the film. Ah well... I drive my wife crazy. In about 3/4ths of the movies we watch, I will call out early on that I know the ending... usually she says don't say anything, but I will write it down or in some cases, just to keep me honest, she'll say "okay.. what is the ending" and it's rare that I am not correct. It's a rare film that keeps me guessing, and often those are simply ones that unfairly introduce someone very late out of context of the rest of the film who turns out to be the bad guy, or who explains the ending. Those films I hate the most as they simply cheat. Anyone can introduce something completely new to the film at the very end for a surprise ending... that is cheating and being lazy in my view.
My favorite surprise ending is in the film "No Way Out" with Kevin Costner. FANTASTIC film with a shocking ending that makes total sense at the end but is pulled off BRILLIANTLY. Anyone remember that?
