Hi, Folks... It's great to be a new JPF member! Please allow me to introduce myself. I am a veteran Los Angeles-based Recording Engineer and Mixer interested in taking on new clients. I have lots of credits and experience, with nearly 350 albums. I also have access to a great private studio - 4 rooms with an excellent piano. And I'm available for Remote Mixing by internet, for those outside the L.A. area. Please get in touch if I can help you with anything. Thanks - Tom Contact: tom@mixworks.com Info: Tom McCauley - Mixer/Engineer Full Credits & Mix Reels: http://www.tommccauley.com

Welcome aboard Tom! Impressive credits. I'm sure you'll find some interested parties here, however, many of us a poor musicians looking for bargain basement prices (with coupons added). Best, John

Hi Folks... thanks for your comments! It got me thinking... I get that many folks are struggling writers and are working on shoestring budgets. I would love to develop a network of people outside of L.A. - hopefully in diverse parts of the world - that I can work with. I'm thinking about putting together a "JPF Special" package that fits the budgets of the writers here. I would welcome any input as to what kind of service at what price would be useful to members trying to improve their demos (or masters). Perhaps I will ask for input in a General post. And yes, Johnny... you can say it's an "ad"... in that, as a new member, I would like people to know who I am and what I do. Not unlike many members who put their website in their posts. I hope you are not offended - I have no plans to start spamming. Just looking to make connections. Tom

Thats really nice of you Tom
To offer a JPF discount....
Might be hard to come up with a flat rate special-since how much work you gotta do on your end depends on how many instruments are involved and all that...As you know internet recording projects can be very challenging......From what I have seen in Nashville the usual bottom line for a well done demo is $600 but thats with the studio providing some musicians to play various parts....Would appreciate input from Mike Dunbar and other JPF producers......Johnny meant no offense saying it was an ad.........We get alot of folks who just come in and spam about their songs and bands and whatever.....But you are obviously the real deal and I and others appreciate that you want to be a real contributing member..So you are again-most welcome.......Guess the floor is open to discussion about what your rates should be for the JPF specials....

Welcome to JPF Tom,
Always good to have a techo around to help with those the more technical bits.
There's a lot of folks around here who are just starting out audio wise and could use a good bit of recording advice from a pro, so your input would be most welcome.
As to a JPF special ? Hmm, that's a hard one, but a lot are doing demo's, so something in that area would be an advantage to both parties.
Again, welcome, and I hope you get to stay awhile and shoot the breeze.
cheers, niteshift

Thanks, Niteshift - Yes, it would be cool to make this a two-way street, where I can maybe help the newbies figure out their audio issues, and maybe in return I get to mix some good stuff!
Still trying to figure out my place here, but I think I can contribute a lot.
btw - I am also a writer & guitar player, so the writer's forums are not lost on me.
Tom

Tom...I was just relating to how many come here and do not start off first with having members get to know them just as a JUST PLAIN FOLK! Seeing you can actually take time and write with others here too, (REFRESHING,,, you're NOT just an ad as we have seen so many of), I now can say WELCOME! And, I hope you do find business friends, as well as long term friends out of business. Both are good to have! Best of everything! Johnny

Thanks, Johnny! While I'm certainly trying to make connections and build a network, I would also like to give something back. I'm hoping I might be able to offer some sort of Q&A space for writers who are trying to work through their recording issues. Still figuring out the forum here, so I'm not sure of the best way to do that without opening up a can of worms. Any suggestions would be welcome. T

Yes, Mike Caro, a fellow studio engineer and producer, (along with having been Sony Record's studio musician for several pop star's albums), he is one of the Moderators in the MP3 Feedback Forum, and already has helped in many ways on JPF, including all kinds of teaching and evaluating methods, as well as providing great demo and master recordings, depending. I am currently working with him, along with Mike Appel, so Mike Caro would at least one of the main Folk's here to get a relationship going for similar interests, to further benefit all. Also, and not to be any second place to anybody, is Mike Dunbar. I just haven't worked with him, but many have and also rave about his work and work ethic as to all things related to JPF. Those two Mike's would be great people and a great place to start, to get started on JPF with due respect. Or, just do your own thing, and may all be Happy! Thanks! Johnny D Keys, Keys, and more Keys! Then, everything else. LOL

Aha....
I hadn't noticed the MP3 Feedback forum! I guess I didn't notice there were more sections if I scrolled down. I've only been browsing the writer's sections, so I wasn't seeing any tech info.
Thanks for the tips!

Tom. SO much to visit! Many forums.
You can even do a search for topics or people, to read what they wrote on any given topic, etc.
Maybe communicate with the founder too, Brian Austin Whitney. Tell him we all sent ya! LOL

HI Tom and welcome. I saw a number of well known names on your resume. Looks like you have been around the block.
One place you might start is by listening to some mp3s and commenting on production and recording issues. Your input will be valued and will engage the members who will respond in kind somehow.
Colin

Hi Tom,
Welcome to JPF. Great to have another experienced engineer on the boards. We can always use expert viewpoints on issues and to answer questions that come up. Hang out a while and if you like it we have a mentor program that you might want to get involved in down the road.
See you around! -Brian
