I love her in Downton Abbey.....and in this interview.
Oh, was there music too? Yes indeed. Well done John!

John, Congratulations on the licensing, though I can't help but think this beautiful piano piece deserved better than to serve as background to a promotional video interview with a starlet. The music conjures up melancholy and would fit nicely in a movie soundtrack. It says something for the music that they not only chose it, but liked it well enough to play it loud.
So what did the starlet say in the interview?

So what did the starlet say in the interview? Yes, a movie soundtrack would be nice, but hey, can't complain. They used most of the track and with a beautiful woman to boot. Embarrassed to say I was too busy gawking at Jessica to comprehend the interview. John

Congratulations Sir Schickster:
When may I apply for a loan... and at what rate? It's so refreshing to see someone at JPF scoring touchdowns with the likes of Downton Abbey Stars. (Hate the magazine... love that show!)
All my best,
Dave

All my best,
Dave Thanks Dave! When I become a millionaire I'll be open for loans. Right now I'm only $999,999 short of being one. Never seen the show, but I will. There's a Downtown Abbey mag? Best, John

Hmm... noticed this was taken down yesterday shortly. When it re-appeared, I noticed Jessica's talking was edited further (de-essed). Here's a more direct link: http://downtonabbeyfan.tumblr.com/post/36243064929/vanities-jessica-brown-findlay-vanity-fair Skips the :15 ad and less quirks. Though the original link/ video is better quality. This link opens a MP4 Video. John

Colin, We'll have to disagree on whether she's the next big thing or just another starlet. Of course I've never been much of a prophet. The first time I saw the Beatles in a CBS news clip, I predicted they'd never make it in the USA. You can't get much more wrong than that.

All my best, Dave Dave, Duh, as I was re-reading the replies, it hit me that you were referring to Vanity Fair magazine, not a Downtown Abbey mag. It doesn't take me long to catch on. John

You're tipping your hat in your picture but we're gonna' have to start tipping our hats to you when you walk by!!!! This calls for an extra visit to Paneras!!!! Sandra must be equally proud of your success (though I'm sure you remind her he-he ). Don't hate me, but Guess What?? They're opening up a Paneras within an 1/8 of a mile from my home in apparently 6 months. Now that's a success! All I need is a Chipotle's and I'm in food heaven! Congratulations Sir John! Lynn

You da' man John!!! (But I'm tellin' Sandra about this gawking at Jessica!!!! ) Thanks Wy! It was more a reminiscing gawk. I was remembering how beautiful Sandra was at that age. Yeah, that's it! It wasn't Jessica I was gawking at, it was Sandra. BTW, Sandra's still beautiful in a more mature way. Whew... John

Thought it would be fitting to post my track that was inspired by Sybil's dying scene in Downton Abbey: Lady Sybilhttp://schicksville.com/Music/Lady%20Sybil.mp3![[Linked Image]](http://schicksville.com/Music/Lady%20Sybil.jpg)

Hey John, this is the first time I got to see this. Nice work my friend! Also great that the interview remains up all this time. Hopefully you have a copy of it so in case they remove it, you'll always have that. She'll have a long successful career I bet! I am thinking 100's of thousands of people have seen/heard that!

Thank you Brian! Yeah, I have an mp4 of it. Jessica's beauty/ talent has inspired several piano solos from me. Don't tell Sandra. Since this track was a buy-out, I'm hoping it may show up other places. Best, John

Buy out meaning you sold it and don't earn anything for its future use? I always disliked those deals, then again without it you wouldn't have this lovely piece. Sad they can't just pay you the small fee when they use it. What if it ended up in the actual series for a scene? Other than being cool, it would be a shame for you to not get even a credit for it. I know that "work for hire" if that is what this was, is done all the time and can be lucrative, but I have also heard stories of people getting paid a few hundred bucks (or less) for a piece of music that, for example, becomes the audible theme song for product or company or a large ad campaign and the writers get no credit or residuals. Barry Manilow did a lot of that work early on and wrote a wide range of very famous jingles but was paid as work for hire. On the other hand, he got paid a LOT of money for a 3 note jingle for Mennon deodorant (By Men-Non). It all worked out for him.
Congrats again, very proud of you and I look forward to you getting more opportunities such as this. Is your material in a lot of libraries? Have you tried TAXI out? They have calls for inst. pieces I believe.

Brian, In this agreement buy-out means this particular client can use it license free perpetually. Though he’s required to submit cue sheets to ASCAP when applicable. However, myself and the publisher can still license this track to other clients. Kind of an unusual agreement. This producer could have used a “one time” license at a fraction of the cost, but chose to use the buy-out option. Which hopefully means he’ll be using it more. “Is your material in a lot of libraries?” I now have about 1,500 tracks spread out in 15 different libraries. Though only 3 of them get placements on a regular basis. To my delight, some of my classical piano tracks have been used on all three major networks in the last year. Have you tried TAXI out? Yes, they’re the guys that got me started in this business. My first placement came from TAXI which happened to be a classical piece as well. Dateline NBC used it several times over a two year period. My favorite Manilow jingle is “Stuck On Me” (Band-Aid Brand). He also did the State Farm and Stridex commercials, among others. Love the guy! Thanks for the encouragement Brian. I appreciate it. Best, John

Haven't viewed this video in awhile. Just noticed they upgraded the video to HD. Much clearer. Can't get a full screen now though. John

Our local PBS station showed a Downton Abbey summary show on Sunday with some teasers for the next season. Jessica Brown Findlay is out of the show now since her character died but she appeared in the summary which reminded me of this thread and your work. I think she and the video will be around a while - hope you get some good from it.

Hi Colin! In Jessica's words why she left Downton Abbey, "I didn't want to fall into my comfort zone too much,". "My contract was ending, and I was unsure about signing away another year. Leaving terrified me, and that's what made me want to do it." John
