Taylor Guitars has asked me to do a series on How I Got That Sound, when I use their guitars/preamps in projects. It's very cool. Anyway here is the first one that I did for them. It's for a trailer to a movie called Goats. Here's the link: http://www.taylorguitars.com/blog/lessons-tips/how-i-got-sound-jody-whitesidesHope it helps you out.

thanks for the video -- that was really interesting and your guitar playing sounded great. What are you using for monitors up there? Very cool!

You're welcome.
The monitors are Genelec 1029a. They don't make that line anymore, but I believe there's a similar model in their line. Great monitors.

I've seen reviews for those (and other genelec's). I ended up getting the M-Audit BX5a's. They seem OK and the price was great. Between those, my ath-m50 headphones, my desktop multimedia speakers, my car and home stereos -- I hope I have enough to come close to a good mix.
I have spent the last couple of weeks listening to "reference track" (bands/songs that I really like) on the BX5A's to get my ear acclimated to them.

I am not familiar with the M-Audit line. Nor am I familiar with the sound of M-Audio's speakers.
Pretty much any speaker can work. But I tend to prefer the more accurate ones, which tend to be more expensive, to get a truer auditory vision of what's going on.

Hey Jody- Great sounding and informative. What DAW Are you working with. The Pulltec plug ins are very nice, and useful. I realize I need to back off on my initial recording volume, to allow the dynamics and plug ins to really do their thing. Thank You for sharing your tips-Bobby

The answer is: I use Logic Pro as my DAW. it's the best tool for going from creation to finish without a need to go to another program for mixing.
