UPDATE!! I just got done doing a rough mix of a full production I did here at my little home studio... I think it came out pretty good! Have a listen and let me know what you think!

COMIN’ BACK

Scott Sanford and Nathan Anderton

*VERSE 1*

A penny for your thoughts as you’re lyin in my arms
And knowin that tomorrow I’ll be gone
I don’t wanna leave, but Uncle Sam’s waitin’ for me
But please write me anytime you want.
First stop Fort Benning, then Afghanistan
Tomorrow I’m a soldier,
But tonight I’m just your man

(CHORUS)

And I want to remember you like this
I want to savor every kiss
Every touch of your skin,
Every move, every breath you take and then
I want to make love to you
That’s the only thing that I want to do
As for tomorrow, we don’t have to worry bout that
Tonight I want you to love me like
Like I ain’t comin’ back

(VERSE 2)

They say a soldier’s wife will never live a normal life
Cuz every time a knock comes at the door,
She’ll get weak in the knees afraid that there is news of me
From a pastor with a note from the war
But god be willing, that won’t be how it ends
That I’ll be the one that’s standing there,
But baby, until then

(CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)

Hold me a little closer
Let’s get a little older
Before I get shipped over
Then love me a little longer
Before I walk out the door
Cuz I want to remember
What I’m fightin’ for...

(CHORUS)

Because you're pitching this I'm going to crit on that level. Is this the final version? If so, it's sound like almost too hot a mix.

I see the appeal and you've done a nice job musically and vocally but with the competition, does it stand out? I don't know. I was playing along with this and pretty much predicted almost every chord that you played first time around. That's too predictable.

I really thought the hook should have been "Tonight--I just wanna be your man." You could have gone into a chorus filled with what lies ahead in war and came back strong to the hook.

Just my take...still nice work.

Thanks everybody! Zeek, this is no where near any kind of final version. I did this in like 15 minutes in my home studio just to get a guitar/vocal down to pitch and get critiqued. Not sure what you mean by predictable... I think that all songs on the radio are predictable. (Chord-wise, I mean.) That's just music theory at work. To be unpredictable would be to go from a D to an A flat. It wouldn't have been predictable, but it wouldn't have made any sense either. Please elaborate on what you mean, because maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Also, how do you feel that tonight I just want to be your man is a stronger hook? I'm interested in that because I almost made that my hook but chose this version over it.

Thanks!

I thought there'd be more imagery in the chorus with the other hook. I think "to love like you ain't coming back" is a bit morbid and isn't a "good feeling" hook.

As far as the predictability, it's not about something radical but like I said, I played along and got 1 chord wrong. Forgot the chords now but if it's G/D/C/D try G/Dm or G/Am or G/Bm or G/D/C/Cm...something to give it a push. You had a nice change on only thing THAT I wanna do.

And I want to remember you like this
I want to savor every kiss
Every touch of your skin,
Every move, every breath you take and then
I want to make love to you
That's the only thing that I want to do
As for tomorrow, it's all in God's hands
But toniiiiight..
I just wanna be your man

That's what I'm hearing.

Wow.. when they hit me like that.. I like to call them uncontrollable, involuntary God-bumps, instead of Goose-bumps!!!

Your performance is absolutely beautiful!! I think what Zeek is getting at with your hook has merit... it's the same reason we prefer to say that someone "passed away" instead of "died".. sometimes the truth can still be the truth, but tactful instead of brutal. And with a delivery like you have here, it can still be just as powerful!

Good luck with this amazing song!

Hi Scott and Nathan. This is only the second song that I have heard since I joined JPF. Gosh, youve blown me away. You did this in 15 minutes. Wow. I can't wait to hear this song when it is the final. I think this is fantastic. The whole thing is brilliant. Who is that fabulous vocalist. If ever I can write lyrics good enough, I would just love to have you make a song with me.

Best wishes Helen.

The heart and soul of this song, the chorus, is about as good as it gets. The story is great but I found myself really getting excited about the approach of the chorus. Expertly produced and sung. Just a thoroughly professional job and a wonderful song. Good luck with it.

Great story and the music works perfectly for me.
The vocals and harmonies are beautifully done.

Honestly it sound as go as the songs played on CMT.

I hope you continue to work on it, it can only get better.

It's a smoker

HIT HIT HIT HIT HIT HIT.......HIT!!!!

Did i say that I think this is a hit? The small nit I've got is that I don't think it needs the doubled vocal on verse 2. The bridge is very strong but could do with a bit more power if that makes sense.

HIT!!!!!!!!

Great song, Scott.

One nit: 1:30 is too long to wait for the title. Usually better to sing it by the minute mark.
