Don't want the thread to get outta control for Linda, hard to keep up with too much.... for anyone, But I loved eggplant with katchup on it! Haven't had it in years!
oh and Joe Earwigs in the Eggplant was great...remember my mom used to MAKE us girls eat eggplant and I hated it..
glyn
My Mom makes Eggplant for people who don't like Eggplant That's what a new client at the time said upon coming here on a Sunday and catching Mom's famous Eggplant Parm.
It's NEVER bitter, it's as sublime as her meatballs and the whole thing melts in your mouth. One night I when i was a kid I came in with some friends after a long night of partying lol Well out comes Mom with her tray of eggplant and two loafs of Italian bread. You should have seen the faces of my friends as they were eatin it especially the girls Mama Mia!

Sometimes some of the eggplant are set aside with no sauce or anything. Those are the ones I get later and put into a sandwich with Ketchup! Delicious hot or cold! Also if you dont have Italian bread then have that on toast with the Ketchup YUMMY!!
Ya know if you want to learn the ingredients of some great hits songs, sing some and get the feel for it.
Dying for eggplant now, wonder why? but since it's a Karaoke Party I'll have to sing for my grub. So I'll be back with a song in TRUE karaoke fashion in moment. I'll try to dig one up...
Personal Note: My piano playing hasn't gotten so poor now that my singing has actually surpassed it on the what I do best list

Hey Mike Caro, I've never been a fan 'a Barry Mannalow but that's musical preverence and you were great! There you are!
Hey, egg plant can be awesome, just needs to be cooked the right way!
So does music.... Any expertise you wanna put out.. i think when ya said sing some and get the feel for it, you met to set us on a track of.... where we take it!!
And Glyn (et al.), I have a Vietnamese recipe for a spicy batter for pan-frying tasteless flat fish that works real well on tasteless flat vegetables, too--like zucchini and eggplant. I can send it if you like.
@Mike Caro Not a huge Manilow fan either myself but I liked how you sang that one.
@JenWarner Finally got around to listening to your Drops of Jupiter (this week has been crazy with lots going on personally ugh :P) and I really enjoyed it! Well sung and soulful!
And thanks to everyone for the compliments on my Duran Duran and Tori karaoke versions.
I never bought a Barry album or saw his show. He did write great pop songs though and many of them. Also can appreciate his vocal after trying to sing this song that keeps changing keys
Also this was the only cover Karaoke style I had around. I sing Jim Croce and Cat Steven style songs a bit better, there in a safer range.
heheheheheh!!! just coming back in... wow YAY you are just taking off without me - sorry I was absentee yesterday/today -- busy busy or out cold! with exciting stuff going on under wraps (not music, FAMILY things) that I can't talk about just yet... but taking me away from the Web which is not always a bad thing - LOL
STILL! YAY to see Mike in here !!! And just to clarify, it does NOT NEED to be "karaoke style" - it can be ANY OF YOUR OWN SONGS that fit the bill -- UNLESS we're having say a "Led Zeppelin Week" (we're not in the near future!) ... then it would have to be all songs by that artist, era or genre... otherwise ORIGINALS ARE GREAT!!
But the rest of that I Write the Songs collab got eaten in Nite's computer, so my addition is gone now too -- glad to see some of all that work got preserved!! cool!
listening out of order.... back to the top of the last page!
@Joe -- I hadn't heard this one but oh too funny and classic "you" with Stan too!! very nice. Your vocals are perfect for your songs - enjoying much! Earwigs/Eggplant... LOL again!! awww what a hook... what a profession of love and devotion!
@Colin - yeah I'm loving your Blue Island Beer Club songs here and your vocal - nice song and well done!!
more more more.... my ears are hungry! off to hear the rest... don't want to lose my typing
oh and chat about eggplant or whatever all you like guys!! Mike - GREAT STORY ... I bet your mama can cook that stuff up just right. Mine made eggplant parmesan and I still didn't like it much... my neighbor made it and I liked her recipe but didn't ever wanna grow it myself... LOL
ANYWAY it's the song links I need to limit -- chatter is fine and expected!!
And the format of replying -- is to keep post count down some mainly... and less confusing to boot -- but chatter is fun!
BTW.... Pie and Honey are among my favorite foods so I'm making up some coupons here.... lol
and Glyn took us to 300 posts!
Geneva... there is a "Voice -----------*------------- Music" spot on your "review or remix" this recording page... I have screen shots posted in the Party Hotline thread for what you're looking at on that page and how to adjust your vocals by sliding that button back and forth -- but -- I think you mixed "American Pie" nicely -- it sounds like a nice balance to me!!
also since I'm here... @Geneva -- lovely soft rendition of "If I Die Young" ... very nice... and I'm on American Pie right now (just finished) and you are ROCKIN THIS chickadee!! very good!! WOO!! ALSO AWESOME on Devil Went Down to Georgia, YEAH!! SING IT! totally great.
Unfortunately however fried chicken is not a particularly favorite food of mine.... heheehe
LOL and Glyn's ahead of my coupon!! hahaha cool.
[quote=glynda]ok and for my bonus song for again flipping the page, here's my song, thanks glyn

@Mike,Just another not a big fan of Barry but you did however sing it really well. And if anyone doesn't know,"Bruce Johnston" wrote "I Write The Songs",NOT Barry Manilow, crazy huh.
and TECHNICALLY...... Sub dude... we're on FOOD WEEK and that song has no food in it.... awwww but you're working on it and I'm happy to have ya here so.... we'll count, THIS TIME ONLY, the line:
"Music fills your heart" as Music = Food for the Soul Well because that's true enough.
But..... hehehe read the Challenge of the Week!!
Do ya have a song written somewhere that mentions any kind of food??? hehehe Letting ya slide ... WINK..... lol
{{@Mike/Sub}} ...Because this is such a TREAT to hear you sing. I KNOW you say you do other things better guitar drums etc... but STILL I love the tone in your voice and your phrasing here is just great... gotta say I like you singing' this better than Barry.
And my sister & mum were into his stuff so that's a lot of what my little ears grew up with... can't count how many times I've heard that original... you rocked it awesome!!
@Mike,Just another not a big fan of Barry but you did however sing it really well. And if anyone doesn't know,"Bruce Johnston" wrote "I Write The Songs",NOT Barry Manilow, crazy huh.
Oh also true. Niteshift made that clear when he was doing up the track
@Glyn - oooh very nice rendition on Barbara Mandrell!! and hey your guitar playing is coming along I tell ya - better than me and I've sure owned one a lot longer... lol ... sounding good and I like this song.... very nice!! I like your singing lift into the chorus. Oh you mentioned pie too!!!
If I missed anyone I'll come in and edit.... still listening.... And I wanna know what TUPELO honey is, compared to... Hawaiian honey, Clover honey, Orange Blossom honey.... lol
@Mojo -- hey way cool performance of Sugar Sugar!! great to hear ya, thanks for joining the fun!!
@Glyn -- Super bluesy country job on Milk Cow Blues! never heard that before... that's a great one! great for you and your voice!! and Break it To Me Gently -- this is just perfect country -- with excellent feel and phrasing!!
@Ann -- nice performance on Duran Duran - fun to revisit that one!! Smiling!! Cornflake Girl - I don't know this one but you're sounding very nice! And you mentioned RAISINS -- I love raisins! COUPON! oh you've got the timing down flat and that sounds awesome when the BG vox come in !!! that's you?!!! SWEET! This is way way cool... have never heard this song but it completely suits you!! You rock! RAISINS - BONUS SONG WINNER!
ANN
{{Go ahead, laugh. I really DO love raisins!!}}
Something I really love about this whole thing - is I'm hearing songs I never knew! or that I haven't heard in ages... which is super fun. Plus loving hearing your voices... is so cool. I mean... where else is Sub gonna post that he EVER sang Barry Manilow??!! LOL!! and it DOES stretch us in all sorts of good ways musically... more than you might think at first, huh? And I also LOVE Mike's (Sub) point that how can you write hit songs unless you LISTEN to them and LEARN them and figure out how they work, why you like it, how it all fits together?? Yep Yep Yep another Secret Motive.... aw you found me out. PLUS I JUST GOTTA SAY: YOU ALL ARE BETTER SINGERS than you collectively give yourselves credit for!!!
But... considering it's almost Friday... the OPEN MIC FREEBIE WEEKEND starts in less than 24 hours.... & that some of you have only dropped one song so far... and I just handed out a bunch of bonus coupons ...
I'm keeping us at TWO SONGS THIS WEEK. I was just swamped with a lot of other things on my plate before I could get to hear you! (plus the internet out -- aaargh!!)
BUT! The good news is, next week is already scheduled for 3 songs apiece. Because I think it's gonna be fun. At least - I hope you like it!
If you can't see the graphic - this week's Challenge is: FEED ME. Songs mentioning or about a food, eating, hungry, or full.
Bonus Coupon if you happen to hit one of my favorite foods (haha) ... a few are BLUEBERRIES, SHRIMP, CHOCOLATE, and CINNAMON ROLLS (with raisins!). Good luck!!
**DUPLICATE SONGS ALLOWED,** so don't worry if someone posts a song you wanted to do - just sing it and post it!
{{and I can't believe nobody sang.... Blueberry Hill ...yet.... wink!}}
Thanks for the compliment on Cornflake Girl, Linda! I did the vocal in one take because I know the song so well haha! Fellow Toriphile here. :D:D
I love hearing everybody singing too. I'm finding all sorts of music that I hadn't thought of in a while or had never heard before. Never heard "Tupelo Honey" before this thread and a few others.
And oh boy a bonus song! No I actually couldn't tell at all that you like raisins..... hehe Got one lined up that I'll work on tomorrow! It's almost midnight here on the East Coast and it's been a loooooooooooooooong day.
Oh... Goodie... I get a bonus 3rd song!! I had 1 more food or "hunger" related song ready to share! Don't mind that I missed the intro, though, and squeeked at the end, and distorted all through the middle! hahaha!! And I wore my hair up!! LOL!!!
@ Joe-- That Eggplant song is TOP NOTCH!!!! Just super talent oozing from that hilarious song!!! ***Also, was it you who has the recipe you said you'd share? Whoever it was, could you please PM it to me, I would love to have it, sounds yummy!!!
@ Mike-- Oh, MAN!! Your vocals are so amazing!! I could just listen to you all day!! Lucky for me, I have your CD now!!! Thanks!! Loved that song you did hear, and it was candy to my ears, so that's food enough for me!
@ Glyn-- Break it to me Gently was absolutely GORGEOUS singing!!! What a sad, sweet song! You sounded wonderful... I just love hearing you sing!!! XOXO!!
~Smiles~

Wow Jen, Hungry Eyes has always been a favorite song of mine, happy to hear it again and you were singing it so beautiful..and I like your hair up too....lol.....and hey this ole' woman loves to hear you sing too.......I think this was a good idea Linda had and I do believe everyone is having fun with it...
I was listening to each song from the beginning a week or two ago and was writing down comments to post about each one (there wasn’t this many songs then). Anyway I got sidetracked and then pneumonia and I lost my list! I remember Linda’s haircut song, that Colin had a song and Jen (who brought me here). Um Glynda had a song now I’m looking back and cheating, lol Joe did pole dancing for Jesus. Anyway they were all very good, hats off to you folks for having the courage to do this, I would have to be drunk and I don’t drink anymore.
Then I got to Mike Caro’s song!!! It was a show stopper!! “I’m like Brooklyn” I listened; I don’t know how many times, Googled him and listened to EVERY song I could find! Wow was that a hit song? If not you should be pitching that song! I had my husband listen, and he didn’t want to, but he loved it too. When I hear a song like that and it’s not on the radio making money I just scratch my head in confusion.
Mike I read that it’s an older song BUT it could easily fit on the radio I don’t care how old it is, some things never change. Am I wrong? Do you think that it’s dated? I’m listening again. I just can’t tell you how great this song is. Here is the thing, when it first starts; the beat is so great that I know right off I’m going to love it! I can only think of one other song right off the top of my head that I felt that way about and the 1st time I heard it, I KNEW it would be a hit. It’s a country song “A little more country than that”. The music told me instantly that it was a great song.
Mike, Mike, Mike this is a hit song if I’ve ever heard one. I know you sing it great but I’m sure there are people that would love to record and perform this song. Maybe it was a hit and I wasn’t listening to the radio or the right channel? Anyway you know better than I do, I really am just plain folks but I had to tell you what I think of this wonderful song!!! And the video, all those guitars I’m green with envy! And you can play all of them. When I watch you I feel like I’ve wasted my whole life! I’m learning guitar now but I don’t have anyone to play with so I’m sure I’m teaching myself bad habits, lol. Sorry I got carried away.
Anyway cheers to all of you and I’ll try to keep caught up on all the new post.
This was quick and dirty. I know the song so well so I did it in about two takes. One of my favorite Peter Gabriel songs! (You can look him up doing this in concert on YouTube where he's riding a bike around a circular stage while singing the song, very cool. )
Oh, and there's the line "turning water into wine," so that counts!
@Ann, I loved Solsbury Hill i've never heard of that before but I love it...thanks for doing that one, your singing was wonderful..
@Mojo...Wow, Strawberry Fields, haven't heard that in a long time and you did it great too..and King Bee/Back Door Man I've never heard of that one either, but man, that was exciting..loved it..lol

Dottie,
I'm too choked up (literally) over your reaction to my song. So I will be back to talk to you about it later.
Thankyou and your husband, thanks with all my heart!!!
