@ Glyn... love all of those songs... but WOWSER... that Keith Whitley tune about brings me to tears, you do it so beautifully! Love it!
@ Scott... That is an awesome version of that song!! You sound super!!! I didn't know Youngstown was your home town... very close to where I am! Matter of fact, at work, my bank is considered the Youngstown Region! Great choice and excellent performance!!

Hi Linda, Just saw the challenge so this is for cities.
This is gonna suck a big one in my bravery I know but love the challenge.
I got no webcam or mic, this was done with my borrowed grand daughters "dollar store microphone", literally!
A favorite song of mine, also one I can't sing. Haven't heard it in years and sure need to practice it, and I made some screw ups, besides not bein' able to sing it. I'm no singer in the first place, that's why you don't see acapella's of my lyrics on the boards.
Hey all of you all that don't take on a wordy lyric, yea, they're hard to sing!
So I toast my embarresment. CHEERS! (raises glass)
I enjoyed this very much, and this is so much fun, helps me with my singing(for myself, i'm not fool, know i'm no singer), but this does help me see how I should sound. But Geneva I enjoyed this alot, thanks for doing this...
way to go lady...glyn
And I toast to you too as I raise my tea glass...Cheers
And I too see now how hard a wordy lyic is to sing, mine for now will be shorter!!!
But I hear so much more confidence in your vox now than when you started out. that's awesome! Hope I stay brave, and can actually practice with listeners, that's the hard part, and maybe not give up, (I'm a quiter if I don't think I'm goin' anywhere) and get there too.
YAY GENEVA!!! Thanks so much for joining us and being brave!! Standing O just for stepping up the plate, er, mic. I have to listen still to all these wonderful things! I've, uh, sadly been asleep all day O_o ... uh... w/my thyroid imbalance sometimes this happens...
Keep posting! and I'll get in to hear y'all soon as I can! YAY Scott for joining us too!! It's OK if it's been posted on the MP3 boards or elsewhere - we just want to kept it to "post it once" in this particular thread. But still -- if you re-mix it or add something different to it can be posted again here!
Thank you everyone for making this a fun, and safe place to practice and learn and have a great time!

@Geneva! you sound terrific!!! you are sure right on! and ...those words are not easy, you kept right up! Great tone and country sound you have there too... see... this was so fun to hear someone who might not normally sing here on JPF... I thoroughly enjoyed your performance! :-) Please do keep posting, I really like hearing your voice!!
I think there are many of us who sing better than you think you do! Thanks so much for your courage! Hear the applause - in your head!!!
@Glyn, YES that was a powerful strong performance of the Whitley song, too. I have heard it a number of times out there on SingSnap and I gotta tell you, you really put some soul and feel into it I don't always hear. I really felt it that time. Great job!
"Make Believe" -- awww this takes me back, and again, you have a way of making the listener FEEL what you are singing, even if we've heard this song before. Thumbs up!!
"Shake Me" - I am not sure I heard this song before, but it's lovely! I really enjoyed the story here... and your voice is so great for storytelling.... awwww!!! what a neat song and performance!!
"Long Long Time" -- again such power and emotion and FEEL in your singing, Glyn! you underestimate yourself... wow... it feels raw and open-hearted and "all in."
@Scott -- I believe I remember when you first posted this cover... I was impressed then and am still impressed now! THANK YOU so much for posting it... it's full of feel and emotion too... of course being your hometown... too... I have never been there but I can see it in my mind's eye.

Hi Jen, I just listened to Empty Garden, that was a VERY powerful performance. It's such an emotional song, makes ya cry ! Calvin

@ Calvin--- Hey, Darlin'!! Thanks so much for the listen... that blesses my heart! Glad you liked it!
@ Geneva-- Lady, you can SING!! I don't know what you were so nervous about.... that was fabulous!! So glad you joined us! I don't care what anybody says... it's good practice. I've done a couple songs in 1 take, but there are others that I can listen back and see where I need to improve, and it really only takes a couple of minutes to do! Great job!!
@ Linda-- THANKS for the COUPON!!!! YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!! I may just have to use it this weekend... I don't know if I can wait for the next challenge!!
@ Linda-- FABULOUS job on "Hold The Line"... I love that song, and you did a remarkable performance! Loved it!
The dictionary is the only place where success comes before work.--Mark Twain
It is good practice and Lord knows I need it. You all sound so great and all!
I don't even know how loud to sing and I'm scared not too keep it down, esp since I don't even come close in vocal range to my favorite songs with a "city in 'em.
Jen, love it...I loved the Carpenters so much and it broke my heart when I heard Karen had died...and you're bringing her back...enjoyed this so much....
Lady you're doing great, you sing with the music, for some reason I can't seem to get it together..but you're doing fine and your voice is meant for country....great stuff..loved listening to your voice....i'm happy you joined us here...this is alot of fun....
But I think I've caught at least one from everyone. Cool to hear "I'm Like Brooklyn" again from Sub (one of my favorite songs anywhere) and "City of New Orleans" from Colin - another big favorite.
Wasn't gonna pass up Jen's "King of the Road" either - not sure what I liked best - the video or the music.
I grew up in Poland-Struthers, Jen - just on the south side of Youngstown.
Then I listened to Linda's "Hold the Line", Geneva's version of "Guitar Town" and Glyn's take of "Don't Close Your Eyes". I knew Linda and Glyn had good voices - first time I heard Geneva though. Looks like we have another classy country lady in our midst.
I wasn't gonna try this again til I get a mic, but it's fun!
My grand daughters dollars store jobbie I'm usin is a hard plastic thing that hurts and is too big for my ear, falls out, and has a long thing attached that sits near my cheek. I don't get much volume from that that little ear bud, not near my computer volume. I suppose it's a toy, and all I can do is toy with it anyway!
Maybe I'll check out Radio Shack, or if anyone has any ideas please let me know. It's not as if I'm goin' anywhere with it and need much.... 20-50 bucks is cheap entertainment I figure. Thanks! Geneva
BTW The harmony in the chorus from the site really throws me for a loop, it's not how I remember the song, and I can't get past it.. Is it just me or does it bother anyone else!
My animal is a bird for the challenge
I chose sparrows, one of Tanya's songs, another one I can't sing.
I'm so happy to wake up and check in this morning and see everything is running smooth as silk! I will catch up my listening shortly!
Scott -- I'm only holding *myself* as Party Hostess as obliged to listen to everything posted - (which is why I set a limit - !) but each of you participating, just listen to who you can when you can, and it's all good! It's "nice" to listen to one for each one you post - but I'm not holding that as a rule for posting. :-) Thank you all for listening to so much of each other tho!
Awwww and I thought I snuck in Hold The Line where maybe not anybody would catch it!! LOL hhaa..
OK pulling down Joe's player... then I have one to post

Geneva, I tried to isten to your song , but it says ...SORRY, BUT YOU DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO LISTEN TO THIS SONG.......YOU MUST HAVE PUT IT FOR PRIVATE LISTEN, YOU'LL NEED TO GO IN AND CHANGE IT TO PUBLIC....thanks glyn
Did this for a "Christmas in July" challenge.... lol Part of the Challenge was we had to say "Ho HO HO" at the beginning... but nobody MADE me do the little-kid voice... hahhahahaa
You had no trouble with the harmonizin' chorus like I do either.
Oh those BLASTED BACKUP SINGERS!!!! Nah that is a COMMON complaint on these karaoke sites.... aaaargh! there are some songs I KNOW I know and I can't sing against whatever harmonies they threw down... aaaarrggggghhhhhh.... it's not "just you," Geneva!!!
Oh and if you have the option and NEED to move the key UP - when there are backing singers - you get the Mickey Mouse/Munchkin choir... and it's just ridiculous... or if you move it DOWN sometimes it's OK and sometimes it's like the Zombie Choir.... LOL!!
You just do your best! I hate them half the time too -- they show me up when my timing went off!! ROFL!
Hi, All!! Hey, now... I've brought the veggie tray and Soda Pop for the party here!! Glad to see more peeps!!!
@ Ann.... I LOVE that song... I haven't been brave enough to try it, but you did a remarkable job!!! Love it!!! Thanks for sharing!
@ Joe.... OMGoodness, that song is SOOOOOOO Hilarious!! I took a listen at lunch time today, and that was just what I needed to put me in a good mood!! LOL!!!
Ok... now I'm telling you this one took guts for me to try... and even more guts to actually post this train-wreck, but here's my first contribution for the ZOO song:
