This is a new song and is in rough shape. What do you think of the lyrics, and the use of harmonies? Any and all comments welcome! Thanks! Todd http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11022832Your Guiding Hands Todd G. Strachan (C) 2011 V1 Give me strength today oh Lord, To face the world where I stand. May everyone I met, see you in me, and know I rest, in Your guiding hands! Chorus Your guiding hands I trust in You completely! I'll serve You Lord, Just lead me where you need me. V2 Give me wisdom today oh Lord, To change the things that I can. And to accept what I can not change I will put my trust in Your guiding hands! Chorus Your guiding hands I trust in You completely! I'll serve You Lord, Just lead me where you need me. V3 Give to me a pure heart oh Lord, One that is stronger than my flesh. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, so I put my trust in Your guiding hands! Chorus Your guiding hands I trust in You completely! I'll serve You Lord, Just lead me where you need me. WOOO is right!!!! I love it, Todd!!! I love the groove of the music, I love the lyrics, and I love the harmonies!! Those harmonies grabbed me from the first line where they come in on "today Oh Lord"! Great song!!!

Thanks Jen I'm glad you enjoyed it! Its gonna take alot of work to tighten up they vocals, but it is worth it. The guitar needs work as well.

I think it got better as the song progressed. Chorus came out nice. I wasn't fond of the knee slap or whatever that was. Maybe a shaker or tambourine would be less...distracting.
I think the song needs a little bridge in there...maybe with some minor chording to break it up.
Nice work.

Thanks for the listen Linda, and the Peter Paul and Mary compliment. Greatly appreciated! Also glad you liked it. It turned out pretty good for the short amount of time I worked on it so far.

Excellent ear Zeek! I wasn't sure about it so I left the knee slap in then I bounced the 2 pairs of git tracks and the main vox to 2 tracks, so until I redo it the knee slap stays. I was gonna try a wood block or a tambourine but the were laying waste to my mic levels so I went with the knee slap.
A bridge he says........thats the best you got?!?! I guess I did do pretty good with this one then! LOL I will keep that in mind Zeek. Glad you liked it!

Todd,
Yes, that knee slapping isn't working, but I am going to do a clapping in my new song, so I'm glad I heard this!
Love the harmonies, this is a nice vocal and melody!! Would like a bridge also, or pick up V3 to change things up a bit, but really like this one!!

Hi Todd, I like this a lot, I love inspirational song. I do have a suggestion, that's right just one! V3 Give to me a pure heart oh Lord, One that is stronger than my flesh. I suggest rhyming this with hands like the other verses...Maybe...Wisdom so I may understand...or...Compassion for my fellow man. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, so I put my trust in Your guiding hands! That's all I have, nice work!! Dottie

Hey Dude,
Well, that's just one damn honest song.
Sure, it placates around the stanard biblical phrases, but it works for it's purpose.
I enjoyed the listen, and had to play it again.
cheers, niteshift

Very solid harmonies parts Dude. Gets some bass and a tambourine on the go and you've have your-self a gospel classic.

Thanks Dottie! I had a friend suggest finishing that line with Stronger than I am, instead of Stronger than my flesh, and I am considering your suggestion as well as his. Thanks again for giving it a spin and the input! Glad you enjoyed it also!

Yah Todd, those harmonies are just what you would expect for this song and it looks like you can do them well.
It's a good start on something I think could be heard in churches, at least the ones which will play upbeat stuff. Might be interesting to market that way.
It would be easy to replace the knee slap with a clap-like sound that is more equally volumed through-out the song. You can download Hammerhead Station, for instance, for free; and create a track for your song, and save the wear and tear on your knee.

Awesome song. Simple, clear, thoughtful, inspirational and extremely contagious. You had me slappin' my own knees by the end of the first chorus. No major changes needed whatsoever and the harmonies were great. As you said yourself, just tighten up the final product a little, get rid of the thing that everyone else has mentioned, and slap a "finished" sign on it. Very well done.

Thanks for the listen Niteshift, and the comments as well. I stumbled into the guitar part while I was being frustrated by another song I was working on. Once the guitar part took shape, the words just kinda poured out. One doors locked, and another ones open! Glad you enjoyed it twice! Todd

Hey Todd...
Enjoyed the harmonies...thought the slap was a metronome at first. A little bridge and some minor chords as Zeek mentioned is not a bad call.
Have fun with her.

Hi Todd
This would fit perfectly into a Christian camp song book - sounds like a great sing along.
