What is the best to join, Facebook or Twitter? Why? What is the difference between the two?

Depends on what you are joining for.
If you are wanting to be on there to promote your music, I say set up a Facebook fan page. If you want to connect with old friends from high school, current friends or family then facebook personal page.
If you want to keep up with the news trends immediately and catch celebrities saying funny stuff then Twitter. Alot of people that aren't superfans of something don't really get twitter.
Honestly, it doesn't hurt to have both.

Personally I find Twitter pretty useless, but Facebook pretty useful.

I find them both useful but they are different beasts. I find Facebook more of a social thing with people I know and Twitter more interactive with people I don't As Stevens119 said it doesn't hurt to have both. Follow me on Twitter

I use both.
I use Twitter connected to my FB account and text in my Tweets via cell phone.
I have about 130 followers on Twitter, many of whom are also on my Facebook. I have now over 1200 Facebook Friends thru networking with musicians, high school friends, college friends, & the like, so I have found that networking through the profile gets me MORE exposure than I ever had with just my fan Pages alone.
I created a mini-group within my FB profile for personal friends and family for more personal and family type updates I DON'T want going out to 1200 people.
I have about 100 people on my fan Pages not connected to my profile.
So I estimate that through FB profile and pages combined, plus Reverbnation which will ALSO import my Twitter feed.... I have outreach to approximately 1500 people.
MySpace, I deleted as no one there listened to me. There were 2 friends of 450 I can't find anywhere else. The other 448 are either here or FB or Reverb or somewhere else so not really lost.
ANYWAY what a Twitter account is good for is it CONNECTS TO EVERYTHING. My blog, my website, my FB, ReverbNation, I think SoundCloud -- it is a great "hub" to have for ingoing and outgoing 140-character updates.
IE. If I upload to SoundCloud a new track (or RNation) it auto-Tweets. When I blog, it gets posted to my Twitter. From there the Tweet re-posts to my Facebook.
Handy. I don't "get on" the Twitter website hardly at all. I use a mobile app, cell phone, or my free TweetDeck download (also a very cool organizational tool). I only check it when I want my "what are the celebs saying today" fix. LOL

Thank you all for your input.I use to be on Facebook, I guess the account is still there, but I closed it when I found I was spending too much time there. Thank again.

Think about something. If you are busy in your craft you really don't have the time to consistantly post on either or any other online entity. Most, if not all, the 'popular' stars in any genre have others doing their postings for them. You might make an exception here and there, such as sports entities but, in reality, they are few and far between.

"Stop the process I call 'waiting to live.' This is the worst type of procrastination, because there will always be another 'reason to wait' lurking ahead. Once you are in this rut, it is nearly impossible to get out of it. Instead, adopt a 'Live as you Go' mentality." -Brian Austin Whitney
