Hi everyone, A few days ago, I helped Mackie Humphries on one of his song lyrics....then a couple days later her sent me a rough worktape of the music and had put my name on it as co-writer. That was very nice of him, and now I told him that I would post it for him, since he hasn't been able to figure out the what and where fors of it all. I post it here with the lyrics for you all to see what he has been working on. Thanks all....Jan and Mackie. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9801562I DON’T WANT TO CRY---MYSELF TO SLEEP © 2010 Mackie Humphries and Janice Hopkins V1 I received your email That said we’re through You’ve found another To come home to Was it all for show And nothing the truth Now my eyes are swollen But I still love you. Hey, Mackie sings and plays pretty dang well, doesn't he? This was a very pleasant surprise. He needs to get himself some better equipment (won't cost much) and ability to post to the internet so more people came hear him.
Very impressive. I think he could sing just about any genre: country, rock, alternative, americana, .... Sounds great to me!

Hi Janice, Mackie. I like it, especially the line: This empty pillow’s beggin’ for your head We've all been there. And Mackie, that's you on vox? Who knew you could croon like that? Especially since you hung my sorry voice out in the wilderness to sing Bad Street USA when all the while you had the perfect voice for the song. I'll send you the instrumental of it.... Nice job on the lyrics and music, but it sounded like an oscillating fan was in the background. Cheers! Scott

Kevin--
This is a work CD and is probably better than the normal one's I do--This DIGITAL ERA that I have been TOSSED into is HEAVY--I was pretty good with REEL TO REEL. I still have a studio Quality AKAI 77--BUT IT WOULD BE A MOUNTAIN TO GET THAT INTO THE COMPUTER--I'm trying to learn to use MAC GARAGEBAND--IT'S A BEAR DOG in itself--I am a slow go at typing--I am still amazed, I can use the COMPUTER as good as I do. I am truely OLD SCHOOL on the VERGE.
I will have to get better in quality, to do much on this MP3 Forum--I realize that.
I have maybe 200 songs like this one ready for SOMEDAY--Maybe I can get a few POSTED.
I appreciate your KUDOS--Jan did great with her input on the LYRICS.
Thanks,
Mackie

Scott--
Thanks for stopping by--I don't have a studio--That was my shop fan in the background, sounding like VIBRATO. Sorry--

Jan and Mackie, I like this song a whole lot. And Mackie sells the heartbreaking lyrics with his spare guitar playing and lonesome voice. You two have done real good with this one. I tip my hat.

Mackie & Jan,
I enjoyed this a lot! Nicely presented Mackie!! There was one thing that stuck out to me though... The singer seems like he's at the end of his proverbial rope. Even desperate, if you will. But then at the bridge he says "meet me half way". I thought the guy seemed more desperate than that. Maybe "come back here to stay" would be more consistent... But that was just my take...
Thanks for sharing. -Paul

Yo Mackie,
Dude--I knew you could write, didn't know you could sing and do music. LOl. I agree ya gotta get some better equipment so you can show off you vocals better. Nice job. A new side of you I've never seen. Melody matches the theme of the song real well I thought. The lyrics are well done as well. Congrats to you and Jan on this one. keep em comin, Roger

Roger--
I appreciate the KUDOS--It is more of me learning how to use my equipment--Having to learn new tricks for this old DOG--Maybe I'll get THERE soon.
It will just take some TIME--Things really change fast with the DIGITAL techniques.

Wow Mackie and Janice,
This is KILLER! What a performance Mackie.. it's a really really moving song. Amazing job on this both melodically, lyrically and the form is right in the pocket, I think.
Only one nit, and that's the bridge, where I think the pause between the second and the conclusive line made it feel unfinished or not yet defined.
Get that right, and get a demo. This is top notch stuff, and a real artists song IMO!
I could hear it for several, I would love to hear George Strait do this, but try to get the demo done in a contemporary style, as you won't get past a&r with anything else for artist pitches, I think.

Carolyn,
Thanks so much for giving this initial worktape a listen for us. Yes, it is in the vein of Willie Nelson, I believe. Oh...to even be mentioned in the same breath with such a fine songwriter....it's just "Crazy"............
Yes, Mackie did a fine job getting the emotion across, that's for sure...and what a nice, nice guy to work with....it has been a pleasure, for sure.
Thanks for the encouragement on this one, Carolyn.

Hi Mackie & Janice,
Well this is a straightforward account by one sad guy. Nice one.
Mackie, you sing with a lot of emotion….real nice. It comes across and makes all the difference.
Nice playing too.

Hey guys, this is really really a nice write, and Mackie I do like your singing and playing. Nicely emotive.
Tell you what. Lotta people say analog is STILL better than digital - and "REAL" music is still better than the fake instruments GarageBand gives you.
There has to be some simple way you can record into that studio-quality analog deal and then line-in the output sound from that player's headphone jack INTO your Mac.
Yeah yeah. That shouldn't be as big a mountain as you may think.
Record to tape.
Plug the jack into your "input" for the Mac - however you are mic'ing it now - (I have an M-Audio Fast Track Pro box, but you may be able to use a RadioShack cable with adapter to plug into the Mic input slot) - push RECORD on Garage Band and PLAY on your tape player - and voila you should have an MP3 good to go.
Does that make sense??
I hope?
Let me know what you think. I may be up in the night, but I bet your old equipment is still worth using.
Someone else can weigh in here, but I bet it could be as easy as hooking up a cable.
Linda

Linda--
Thanks for LISTENING--
I am learning slowly--I have tried tapes--I get a hum from the tape recorder--I am working in my shop with fans running etc--I am making a NEW YEARS RESOLUTION to up grade, and TRY to make a good recording.
Maybe soon I can get something WORKING--I appreciate your concern and IDEAS.
Still TRYING,
Mackie
