I think he meant do we host songs on our site. The answer is no. Most folks just use Soundclick or a similar site and host their music there, and then they can link to their music on our MP3 Feedback board so folks can listen and respond.

elcome to the site Larry. I see you only have 1 post, so feel free to introduce yourself and share some info about what you do and what your goals are and folks will be glad to offer assistance.

See you around,

Brian

Hello JPF, I'm Scott. I think I heard about this forum in MusicConnection magazine a while back.

I run a company called MusikPitch. It allows anyone looking for new music for film, video, jingles, or other projects to run a song contest. Songwriters/composers can then compete to win the contest and the prize amount shown.

Looking forward to being a part of the forum!

Hi Everyone ! I guess you can say that I am a new-old member. I had posted songs in a couple of forums a few years back, and had planned to get back on board sooner, but lost my login info, so I had to re-register. BUT here I am ! I had gotten a lil discouraged, for I do not play or write music, and that is a very important component in songwriting, so this time around, I hope to hook-up with some who do ! Any advice, or suggestions are very welcomed ! Thanks, n it's good to be back home, Cecilia

Hi, I'm Kate, I just picked up guitar this year so I'm really new to composing & could use a few pointers. Trying to work on writing better lyrics & would love to find a skilled collaborator to help co-write on country or rock pieces.

Hi Kate! WELCOME! I've been playing guitar for 30 years, but I SUCK, so don't look at me, but there is a Guitar forum herabouts, and it has all kinds of advice for novices like ourselves. I read your lyric "Until Then" and really liked it...I think you'll get lots of collabs here. Hang out, meet folks, forge some friendships, and strive to become a better writer and musician. This place does that to you without you even noticing! grin Nice to meet you! smile

I go by Allman_Fan on some other forums so I thought I'd use the name here. I quit playing music/guitar for a while and got back into it lately after listening (once again) to Duane Allman on slide. So that's where the name came from.

I live in Nashville and play guitars, bass, and some other stuff. Sing and write songs, too. I'm interested in all styles of vocal music (some instrumental stuff, I guess, too). The reason I'm here (or my intended focus) is more lyrics than the music. Although, how they fit together is obviously important.

I'm looking at getting more involved with others in the "old school" way as well. Jams, writers nights, collaboration, bands, etc, it just depends on things, you know, life's other demands and such.

That's probably enough for now.

See ya soon!

Hey guys - my name is Jay Speight. I've been a professional songwriter for the last 5 years and believe it or not, just now stumbled across JPF. I'm looking forward to discovering some fresh inspiration and making some new friends! I also have a demo business I'm looking to promote (AcousticVocal.com). So if any of you have some suggestions on the best way to do that I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks so much!

Hi Jimmie and Jay,

Welcome to both of you. One of the best ways we've found to get involved is to use your actual name (unless your stage name is how you're known like Elton John over Reginald Dwight). It build trust when folks know who they are really talking to.

See you both around the boards!

Jimmie: Welcome to the JPF. Post lyrics over in the lyric boards and comment away. You'll find interested folks around here. There are a lot more lyric writers than music folks, so collabs can be slow at times -- but keep trying!

Jay: Welcome to the JPF, also. You'll want to adjust your signature, so your web site shows up as hyperlinked. Congrats on that TA cut.

Hey Everyone:
I'm trying to do the introduction correctly, so to me this is an experiment. I'm a songwriter, but I've only been doing this for a few years. I have a mySpace music page, and have some songs that I think deserve wider exposure. 4 of the 7 songs on my site have won honorable mentions in various contests, including Song of the Year, Billboard, and Great American Song Contest (3 years in a row).
What is the proper procedure on this site to show my songs?

Welcome to JPF Ott. There are several lyric forums on this site and one where you can listen to mp3s, but you have to have your music stored on other sites, like Soundclick, just have a link leading back to your music storage site. Lots of good talented people here on JPF, willing to listen and help. Good luck with your music.

Welcome to JPF. You can host your music anywhere, and then just link it to JPF on the mp3 feedback forum. Let them know what your goal is for the song, (i.e. is this is demo, a finished release etc. If you have a finished work and only want feedback (i.e. I like it or I don't) let folks know upfront. That way they won't waste their time making edit suggestions.

good luck and jump in, the water is fine.

Hello,

My name's Brandon; I'm a singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist from Keene, NH. I'm a recent college grad, and I've just finished recording an album's worth of music; naturally, I'm looking for as many outlets for it as possible. I came across this site, oddly enough, while looking for a place to host my own website, and it seemed like a good place to get some feedback, so I figured I'd give it a shot. Hope to see you around the boards!

OK, I'm still trying to find my way around these forums. Is it my imagination, or am I doing something wrong -- but it seems when i click on a thread, I get messages that are months old. Why aren't the most recent messages first? Is there a setting I can change to get the most reccent comments first?

At the top of each forum page are topics that are "stickied" because they are considered important. Below those first few topics are the normal topics.

Kevin, I guess u could say I m new, because after I orig.joined- I was then inactive, due to distractions, so I re-joined, n now hope to get serious about my greatest passion. An irish friend in Dublin sends me Celtic music which I love, so I hope to hear yours. Where could I do that ? Also I want to ask- how to go about entering a song in any of the competitions for awards, etc. n if just submitting lyrics will do in any of them ? I have posted some in the forums, but would also like to enter whatever I can through any avenue available on jpfolks. So many contests require that u download with n mp3, I'm still working on learning that. Any advice or information would be much appreciated. Thanks & Blessings, Cecilia

Everett Hi, I just joined Showcase your songs, n tried to use the player to hear some of urs, but couldn't. Can I put acappella only songs on there, or would that detract from my songs ? I do not want to do that. Thanks & Blessings, Cecilia

Glynda, Thanks, I had so many distractions when I first joined, Katrina being one of them, but now want to stay focused on my dream. I joined soundclick, but have not yet figured out how to up-load my songs. I believe that is done with n mp3 player,so I need a crash course on all that ! Ur stuff is great on there, but U know that. I also just joined showcase your songs. Blessings, Cecilia

Kate Hi ! I always write with a melody, but I do not play n instrument. I m currently looking to collaborate with someone who does. I write in all genre's n styles. I m currently working on a song about domestic violence similar to that country style song, sung by Martina McBride, "Independence Day." I can send u the lyrics that I have thus far, n u can see what u think, n then see what we both think n feel from there. It can't hurt. My email is: clyrics99@yahoo.com, in the meantime, I will look at some of ur stuff. Blessings, Cecilia ps send me ur email, if u would like to.

It seems they are having trouble with the players on some sites, mine is one of them, Dave Rice had trounle too. I don't often get time to go there anymore.

We'll have information on the next awards as soon as we decide we're ready and able to do it again. It takes a lot of time and energy to screen through over a half million songs and over 40 thousand albums. = )

We will post info on the home page, on the message boards and in the email newsletter.

welcome to any new folks I might have missed.

Hey everyone, I am Matt and have been a singer/songwriter for 11 years. I stumbled upon this site by looking for a place for songwriters to discuss their craft. I haven't really had a chance to look through the site at all yet but from what I have read it seems like a great place to hang out.

Hi Ides of March,(Matt) welcome to JPF, pull up a chair and sit a spell. Lots happening here. What genre of music is your main one?

Thanks Everett, I mainly play acoustic, like singer/songwriter stuff. That's what I have been told I am good at.

I, as a new member, am finding this site almost impossible to navigate. I've posted a couple of questions, recently, but can't even find the posts. This seems to me a very unfriendly site for new users unfamiliar with the protocals.

Also, when I click on this thread, why do I get comments dating back to 04/01/2010? I want the most recent ccomments, not ones that are 5 months old.
