We have an unfortunate last minute problem with the venue schedule so we are moving our Sunday August 8th 1:pm meeting and showcase to The "L.A. Hangout" http://www.thehangoutbar.com 16411 N. Florida Ave. Lutz, FL 33549 (813) 964-563 Only a half mile north of The Proud Lion on Florida Ave. This venue is going to blow you away. Check out their calendar as they have the best bands in Tampa Bay performing on Friday and Saturday nights. Great food, beverages of all kinds and the staff is amazing. This is a meeting and showcase and we will start to circulate the performance signup sheet during the meet and greet portion at 1:pm. be ready to take the stage alongside some of Tampa Bays most promising performing songwriters. Please pass this along to everyone you know as we have a great guest speaker, Jon Matheny who is the Tampa Bay Chapter President of the "Florida Motion Picture and Television Association" (FMPTA) and some guests who are in the Independent Film Industry, Including a few producer/directors, screenwriters and fellow actors not to mention some crew members as well. This is an opportunity to put your music directly in the hands of some filmmakers so bring some extra copies of your CDs. If youre interested in acting and or getting cast as an extra put together a bio and resume and bring it with you. I found a site where it's free to build a resume and you get your own site address to build on and send folks to. Its at http://www.nowcasting.com and my bio is at http://www.nowcasting.com/alralvarez Come on out to the L.A. Hangout ready to network and perform and have a really great day of music and friendship. Just bring your instrument of choice and your chops. As always, Keep Strummin' Al Alvarez and Jerry Jakala - Coordinators of the Tampa Bay Chapter of Just Plain Folks.WWW.justplainfolks.org

Hey everybody, the meeting place on the 8th has been changed to the L.A.Hangout. www.lahangout.com looks like a really fun venue and it's great to see this event starting up again. I was having "showcase" withdrawal even though I don't play anything...that's why I need all you talented musicians. Got tons of songs to record. BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE...Since my book is finished, I finally took my new old guitar out of its case. Anyone want to give me a lesson? I'll also be bringing a copy of the book with me if you want to take a peek. Hey Jak, if you're reading this give me a call 352.346.5997. You can ride to the meeting with us. Be glad to have you and Al may even buy ya a beer! Ya'll come to the meeting now, ya hear! See you there. BJ

I'm getting allot of positive RSVPs via telephone conversations and my in box. Also I just called into The Florida Folk Show on WMNF hosted by Pete Gallagher and newly oficial co-host Jim Mason and got to mention it on the show as well. Let's make this a block buster event folks so e-mail everyone you can. Copy and paste this announcement in red and send it along the worldwide web and lets pack this place. The more the merrier.

Here's what you can expect on Sunday Aug 8th,2010. 1:pm Meet and greet and circulation of performance sign up sheet. 1:30-1:40 Al and Jerry will introduce the chapter and acknowlege new members and guests, also making announcements about uppcoming chapter business. 1:45-1:50 Guest Speaker Jon Matheny, President of The Tampa Bay Chapter of The Florida motion Picture and Television Association (FMPTA)will speak on subjects concerning Indie artists and the FMPTA. 2:15 A short film by Jon Matheny. 2:30 Showcase highlighting indie songwriters from Tampa Bay and maybe beyond. **During the course of the day we will interject a few more indie film shorts (5-10 minutes max) by attending indie film makers (Ron Johnson, Miriam Goodspeed, Ranelle Golden/Drew Duncan, MMJoe Sanchez to name a few). This will be somewhat different from one musical act after another and will bring a welcome flavor by crossing creative genres to the day. As you can see it's going to be a fun day with a tight schedual so PLEASE be there as promptly as possible. We will also need volunteers to help with sound and video cueing. This venue has a great stage and a frontal projection television with a DVD player in the DJ booth, so if you can help please get there early so that we can go through a sound as well as a video check. I'll be there around 11:30am with p.a, snake, board, amp, guitar, comgas, mics/stands etc. is anyone planning on bringing drums or a bass rig? I want to thank Al for the brilliant idea of getting the Florida Motion Picture and Television Association together with us. Networking is all about forming alliances and this is a HUGE one. Perhaps it has not occurred to some of our members, but if you listen to a lot of the commercials on TV these days, we have the talent, but have not had the connections (until now) to begin to place music with the moving images of film and TV.
Way to go, Buddy, and good luck in your budding acting career!

Hey Al THE Pal...that was one Hellaciously GREAT Sunday Gathering of The Faithful, and a Monster THANK YOU for sharing those Wonderful Movie Folks & Mz Bobbi with us!
I had a fine time co-writin' "Same Time Next Year" with Cindi LaRosa (Frank is Such a Great Sport!) and if I ever have Big Jim Mason running the boards for me again, as I karaoke Chuck Crowe's & My "The HEAT", I will die & go to Heaven!
I returned home to fix a flat tire on the wife's van..(back to reality)...but LORDY, what a Meet-&-Greet-FEST/The Local Talented Singers/Musicos were In FULL-Bloom, and that LA Hangout Venue was a Dandy!
Thanks, Amigo, from the bottom of my heart. I'm really lookin' forwards to The Next Gathering...sorry I've missed so many!
Best Wishes & a Big VERY Appreciative Guy-Hug, Stan

An impressive turnout and an interesting look at movie making which appears to share many of the same characteristics as songwriting.
Fun to see everybody.....thanks to Al, Jerry and the other organizers. And thanks to Steve D for his confidence that The Blue Island Beer Club would remember the harmonies to Angelina after a couple of years!

Good to see everyone yesterday and for all the kind words here on the board. Yes I really feel that the collaboration we had yesterday with the FMPTA and other Indie film makers was a great success. John Matheny's talk was professionaly informative and I liked that he shared personal stories which related to real life situations that he's encountered in the world of filmaking.
We had twenty two individual artists perform two songs each and everyone did a steller job delivering their performances. Between every forth or fifth musical performance we switched over to view a short video provided by filmmakers and saw first hasd some of the interesting and creative projects produced right here in our own back yard. Thanks to Jerry Jakala, Jim Mason, Andy Karpinski, Steve Dockendorf, Tampa Stan and all the rest of the members who always pitch in and help with the set up and tear out as we couldnt pull this off without you. The L.A. Hangout truley came through for us at the last minute and the venue suited the occaission perfectly. Thank you so much to all.
