We at ENFORCER do hereby challenge the music business in it's entirety,to clean up it's act. Lets get away from the sex and obscenity phase and go back to making real music..Realizing that this task is quite impossible for a business based on flesh and hype,ENFORCER will dominate music from now on..Top producer 'The Dictator of Love street'speaks of love in a manner other writers are incapable of,being all that and more the Dictator will bring music back to audio, rather than T&A music videos, which resemble soft porm, thes days..

This will never happen. The people who hold the power to making or breaking a song are greedy, careless people who are out for one thing...cash. They could care less about the auality of the music. Just turn on the radio and hear the proof.
Sex has sold everything from toothpaste to cars, and always will. I heard one A&R "person" say it first hand at last years Taxi Road Ralley. "I could care less what your music sounds like. Show me that it sells, and I'll sign you".
What a bunch of idiots....

Are you talking about something like http://www.mp3.com/sexacts/ or are you talking about songs that that sexual themes? Sure, some of the music out there is vulgar and borders on pornography, but there is a market for it. When the market goes away, so will the music. Hey, sorry. I forgot t mention that you'll need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to check out the A&R interviews. You should already have it on your system. If not, it's available free from www.adobe.com . David Hooper Kathode Ray Music http://www.indiebiz.com/

With all due respect to the fact that "sex sells",in this particular music related instance,a sexy body does not make for a sexy vocal unless the vocalist can also vocalize..Sexy (not obscene) has a place in the music business, however one's perception of sexual is purely visual, how does one view a sex objects visual presentation, when the vocal ability is nonexistent???Does sex effect your aural abilities to the extent that one cares not what one is listening to as long as the vehicle is sexy or sex related???

Barry in response to your questions...yes. But look at the target market for the talentless sex symbol performers...boys and girls 11-15. Whether it's someone to dream about or someone to idolize these kids are in the middle of puberty and are using these celebrities to fill a fantasy role as they sort out complex sexual issues and feelings.
That said... I believe these people know the role they play very well and know that they are a brand and a business, not so much an artist. They get lots of money, but don't earn respect. If you want the music business to clean up its act, then you need to first get rid of the music business. Go back to a time where every artist is fending for themselves and hope that music will then be judged solely on its merits. It's not going to happen though.

I think Barry left the building a decade or so ago... But, nevertheless, considering the choices in the title of this thread...hmmmmm...I think...yeah: sex.

Sex is difficult enough at my age without having to perform music at the same time. LOL I do not mind sex selling music but hate so called musicians who may be great sexual icons but cannot sing an in tune note or compose any decent songs. They should leave that to the pros and star in porn movies where they belong.

When Tipper Gore (God Rest Her Marriage) insisted on "Warning Labels", the sales of the Labelled-Stuff went UP. No-Brainer, really...SO
Let's Hear It for Hot Babes & Hot Songs...YAAYYYYYYYY!!!

The most popular music is not made by real musicians let alone great ones. When MUSIC is not the main focal point then it has to be something very POWERFUL to take the focus off the fact it's not being made by great musicians, something that powerful, appealing and distracting would be sex. A combo of it is cool at times, ie: The Stones. But they are certainly deeper than just that.

I long ago observed that moviemakers and video-makers had despaired of making good product and resorted to capitalizing on the strong human drive for sexual interests. And, as said above, it is employed to sell everything from toothpaste (Remember the brand that gave your mouth sex appeal?) to politics. I wonder if the "Subliminal Seduction" technique is at an all time high, projecting covert images and sounds to you that get to your brain on a subconscious level. Are they tying a young person's sex drive to their desire for a candy bar, accounting for part of the obesity-diabetes epidemic among toddlers, teens, and adults. They can't follow up on a sexual urge, but they can have a candy bar.
I am motivated to buy and watch and hear movies and music that engage my mind in a story, a fiction I can imagine as real, and, at the end, care to some degree about the characters involved.
Kanye West's alcohol-influenced proclamation that Beyonce's video was '...one of the best of all time!' was laughable to me, as I had already decided it was more of a 'move' video than a dance video, simply having the people 'move' in short segments and then editing it all together. It was uninteresting as choreography, and counter to the idea that the boyfriend should have been interested in marriage, if he liked 'it.' Only 'it' was sahking all over the place in the video. The character of a girl with whom he may have wanted to spend the rest of his life was almost totally absent.
I read a lot of amateur lyrics that don't know how to be subtly sexual or sensual. Sex is the way in which we create baby human beings. When you devalue the act you devalue the human being. This strong natural drive can be perverted and misused. Resorting to its use to sell product that can't stand on its own without it is the dead giveaway that they've despaired of applying their intellect and resorted to the lowest common denominator.
Remember Britney Spears in that video where you can see her right side from the tip of her toe to the top of her head, apparently completely naked? What was the name of that song? What was the melody? Was there a chorus? A hook? A bridge? An interesting guitar riff or keyboard or wind instrument? Were the words...were there words? But I remember the little naked girl.
There will always be another song to be written. Someone will write it. Why not you? www.garyeandrews.com

Geeze, I managed to Miss That Video..(& most Alla Hers.) BUT I did get a real KICK outta "If You Seek Amy" sneakin'-past-The-Censors. (& yep, Sold a Few Copies, didn't it?) ;-)>
It's hilarious the claim that "This Is a Free Country" when some Group Of Higher-Up Mucky-Mucks wants to DICTATE what We The People Wanna See or Not. I'm all for "Protecting Our Children"..BUT you CAN protect them by being Honest about What Genitals are FOR at an Early Age..and by NOT acting like the Sex Act is SO-DIRTY. And TO BE-HIDDEN... And Done Mostly BY-PERVERTS. (And repeatedly-using the "F" Word...)
Because you THEN Manage to Fire Their Little CURIOSITIES..Considerably...Making Audio & Video Crap SELL Like HOTCAKES.
There's really NOTHING exciting about a Naked Girl...IF you're a Nudist.
Best Wishes, Happy Dealin' With It, Stan

What about writing at the same time. I think the orgasm would make an intersting bridge. But who's orgasm ? Maybe a duet would be best. Unless you're a solo act like me. cheers, niteshift

We ALL started playing music because we wanted to impress girls. those who say the opposite are fakes! Human beings are looking for sex more than anything else in their lives. But as we tried to write music for simple and basic reasons, we found there was ... something else. Don't know how to name it, but yes, there can be something more than sex ... and maybe we can call it music ... but it all come down to get pleasure and share it with others!

Ahahaha!
I was just thinking about me and my friends, I guess! How could I phase girls out? I think - can't check - you're the first woman to chime in on this topic. Now you have to give your opinion, LOL!
Take care, Yann

The results of sex(children)often leaves one a lot less time to create and play music(at least during infancy - toddler stages). But let's change the direction of conversation here. Today's "hits" rely more on marketing than they do substance to sell. With so many products vying for someone's attention and hard earned money, a quick and memorable pitch is necessary to grab the attention necessary for the sell. This is true of most "products". When money becomes involved, a business is created. And so the trappings of modern business rear their ugly heads and degrade what we otherwise would enjoy - pure music.

Love and sex are too mixed up to separate, love without sex is unfulfilling and kind of perverse, as is sex without love. Music should be written about everything that living encapsulates not just sex/love/romance. Just because some sexy girl is trying to sell you a toothbrush doesn't mean you have to buy it. Yours smelly breath!!

Well said ... there is plenty of good music that is available that has nothing to do with making money, just look at all the sites where you can both stream and download for free. Far more credible than the wingers who moan about people downloading industry sanctioned and heavily marketed "stars" and their over produced and second rate pop singles. The internet is quite a revolution for the true independent free spirits.
