Did you have a script that you wrote this to, or is it pretty free form? You have good compositional skills. I would like to do stuff like this, but it is beyond me at the moment (and I don't want to work that hard -- ha, ha) Good sounds!

John,
Something a little different from you! And I love it! You've stayed true to the musical ethnicity while introducing thew western elements. Love that dynamic change at 2:00! You pique the listener's attention and then drop us back into the serenity of the piece.
What is the instrument you are phasing on the right channel in the intro? It sounds like a flute of some sort, but I'm not sure.
Great job, John. It's always a special pleasure to drop in on your work. You are a true craftsman.

Kevin Thanks Kevin! I write mostly all the notes down on manuscript using my piano, but I usually make some changes in the recording process. I changed the original lead violin part in several places during recording. John

Alan Thank you Alan! Yeah, we Westerners have our own ideas what Eastern music should sound like. A little different from my regular form. Composed something specifically to test out new samples. That was a flute with some delay on it for fx. Best, John

John ... I love this! You may know I spend a lot of time in China because of my business. Authentic! And I live in Vancouver where our original Chinatown is now dying and dispersing to larger more expansive Chinese communities. You have captured the sound. If you are able to introduce a couple of passages of the Er-hu (2-string Chinese violin), then it would add a lot to your piece. Alas I can't play it!
Very nice indeed...could be used in a feature film!

Thank you Stan! I love the Chinese culture. I should've been born Chinese. I remember going through Chinatown in NYC when I was in high school. I was just fascinated by it. We were allowed in the Temples and all. It must be intriguing spending all that time in China. Though I’m not sure how much of the old China is left. I’d like to think a lot of it is. Yes, I agree Stan; a few authentic Chinese instruments (with good players) would add to the mix. Best, John

The picture you have is a chinatown, but I can't place the script. Looks like Thai, but then am not certain.

John,
This is really nice. I especially liked all the precussion in this. I'm always surprised where you take the listner within the economy of just a few minutes.

I try to keep all my tracks less than three minutes to increase the likelihood of publishers listening to the end. Some of them have such short attention spans. Best, John

Hi John,
Like someone said, very evocative of China, yet still some western influences. Like a 3 minute aural travelogue. Thanks for that!

I like it! A cool blend of oriental influences that are very pleasant to a western ear.
I have been to China a couple of times and believe me, there is a LOT of the old China left. From a huge Western looking city to the early fourteenth century in a few miles.

Does my heart good to know there's some of the old China left. Maybe someday I'll be able to visit - if I can get away from my workstation long enough. Best, John

Just wondering... Probably should post this question on a technical thread (maybe I will tomorrow). Question: A library already wants this track. They ask for a disc at 16/44.1kHz wav files. Is their really a difference between 16 bit wavs and 16 bit mp3's? Most libraries want 24 bit wavs. However, I'm also told the default for TV is 16 bit, so the 24 bit is converted to 16 bit anyway. The new samples must be working. Three libraries want this track and The Creeper. Even got a phone call from the one in LA. Probably give it to the phone caller. Now if I can just push these new tracks before they start telling me there are better samples out there again. John

"The standard by which I now measure the things in my life is the following: If I was on my death bed, or if I knew I had a short time to live, would this issue be important? If the answer is no.. I don't sweat it at all. If the answer is Yes, you better believe it goes to the front of the order of today's business!" -Brian Austin Whitney
