There must surely be at least 2 or 3 songs in this thread.
I think I'll, (shudder) wade through it again <G>

JD,
Well I think you have now been properly welcomed into the boards here now. While I know it is hard to drive a truck and learn an instrument maybe you should buy a guitar and start. Hell maybe there is a song in that. HERE I AM DRIVING A TRUCK AND IT'S HELL TO WRITE A SONG. It's yours. Write away.

May I suggest you check out J. Gale Kilgore at http://www.eyeball-records.com and have him do some demos for you. He is pretty good on songs that fit him.

A hodgepodge of personalities does make for a fascinating website. JD, you certainly did your part. I thank you. It was getting a bit drab around here lately. grin

Now you see why the music business is about people. And why we always get to know people first before we are vaguely interested in anything they have to say.

Mediocre writers are always like this. They demand attention. You can tell it in their arrogance and their lack of skills. And they can't even see where they are lacking.

Oh well, There is a long line of people just like this out there. Most writer's and artists tend to cut their own throats and shoot themselves without knowing they have a gun or knife in their hand.

Now you see why there are so many wanna be's that go no where. the attitude says it all.

Well it doesn't matter what he says or does. He's put his Aspie foot in is Aspie mouth (and yes if you can use it as an excuse then I'm allowed to say that) I know a couple of Aspies one I actually showed this thread and was highly offended at you using the disease to support your ridiculous posts. Learn to play an instrument because you've basically burned about every bridge here now. Unless you do some serious ass kissing I don't think you're going to get far. Yes you're a good writer but there's always more to learn and that applies to EVERYTHING in life. It's sad that a 25 year old knows better than a grown man. I guess some people just never mature. As for pm'ing people with threats grow up and realize when wrong is wrong and when you're crossing the line. A little advice before you go to far with the internet threats (you big bad tough guy) remember that they're illegal and if someone wants to they can take them to a whole different level.

Have a good weekend,

Naomi Sue

Hey, I have Asperger's as well. It's taken many years for me to jerryrig enough social skill tools to approximate what a normal person takes for granted.

But it's always been true, at least for me, that the written word, and online discourse, was always easier for me, because it's asynchronous. I'm intrigued that a self-proclaimed Aspie is possibly even worse at dealing with written communication than face to face....

Here's a Idea. Take your best 7 or 8 songs and hire a professional demo company to produce a CD for you. (work for hire) You keep all rights to the songs. Then try selling it on Cd baby. You do this to see if there is any interest in your songs from the buying public. I did it. I hired my guitar instructor /singer songwriter to help me see if any of my lyrics where song worthy. I paid him $2000.00 over the coarse of one year. The goal for me is to get back the $45.00 I spent for the copy writes and the $55.00 to sign up with cd baby. You will need to have patience's its been 2 years and so far I have sold $29.00 worth of songs. Good luck with you songs.

My goal was never to fight with anyone here. I am actually a decent person, and have great (and occasionally tolerant) friends who "get" me. I don't assume I'm God's gift to anything; if you read carefully, my point was that I am fully aware that my gifts (however average you think they are) are a blessing from God. I do have shortcomings; I fail to understand why there is so much said (perhaps on my part also) that is completely beside the point--and a hinderance to achieving a goal. I don't desire to be judged on my social skills, and I'm not using my condition as a crutch. I feel I shouldn't HAVE to justify myself to anyone...and that's the root of most of my inability to get along with others; most people only find out how far I HAVE come AFTER assuming I'm an a s s h o l e. I'm impatient and operate on a way different logic system than (I'm guessing) all of you. I hate most of all to be marginalized. I get that I have lots of room for improvement like everybody else here; I fully intend to be a better person tomorrow than I was today. I'll start there. Is that humble enough to bury a hatchet? It would be great to start over. I do admire a lot of your work, and don't need enemies. Be fair and honest with me--that's really all I ask...except for decent cowriters, which may happen...or not. We'll see.

I'd die trying to pull any one of you from a burning wreck--
JD

By the way--I never PMed anyone a threat; I just said "Watch your mouth" after seeing some rude as hell comments about me on the quick chat. What...I'm required to just allow people to trash me and not fight back? I don't think so! The girl threatened me, warning: "I have a lawyer in my family," etcetera. Get real! Show me where I made a "threat," you liar!

That's exactly what I mean...I'm not accustomed to taking crap from people. If that's the kind of deal this site is, I really don't need it. You be nice, and I'll be nice. That's how it works. I was nice FIRST.

No one is accusing you of being a bad person or even less than decent. Arrogance is a bigger disease than being an aspie. It's hard to get past someone's outer shell of ego. It's very off putting and most people would rather not have to deal with it at all. I fully believe that being humble and accepting criticism is the key to a healthy and fulfilling life it will get you a lot further than what you were putting off at the beginning of this thread. It's nice to see that you admit that there's room for improvement, as for that burying the hatchet. To each his own it may take weeks for one person to forget about this thread and the next person may forget about it by tomorrow.

As for you pm'ing Glynda with all of this she has enough stress as it is and I think she deserves an apology. She's a wonderful lyricist and an even better person. I don't know the specifics of what you sent to her but her paraphrasing off it was kind of disturbing.

There are a lot of great relationships to be made here on this site. I hope you realize that, because it's very obvious how close everyone is here. Just scan through the threads in the general message forum, you'll find all the proof you need of how people here tend to come together to help another. It's all about selflessness.

Take care,

Naomi Sue

Gary you are the first person on this site to treat me like crap--and I think you actually got the ball rolling downhill between me and those on this website. Yeah--I picked up speed as I went, but let me tell you something you little punk...YOU are an idiot, and YOU may go f-k yourself RIGHT NOW! Go! Don't let the door hit your sorry ass on the way out. MOVE IT!

Naomi...I'm reading through some threads here, and dammit I'm boiling again! I'll simmer down after awhile, but thank you for your fair words. I never threatened Glenda, nor anyone else on this site. When people are mean toi me I'm mean back; I don't want any of that! All I asked for was a 50/50 deal. When you say you're 25 and "smarter" than a grown man, see--that's a slap in the face. Why would you do that? I'll tell you why--because you're not smarter. You're sticking up for your friends.

Ray--I'd love to get into a studio and hire all the talent I need to get demos made to sell. Look, I'm not made of money, and right now it's all I can manage to get the utilities and mortgage paid. That's partly why I came here looking for a collaborator. If I can get even decent scratch demos made, I have friends who will take it from there, and create studio masters, then assign the songs to in-house performers, put the songs on their CDs and voila...royalty checks. From there I can reinvest, and own my own products outright. That's a little ways off yet; one step at a time. Thank you for your thoughtful suggestions though. I mean that.

I never said I was smarter I said I know better. . . there's a difference, and yes I am sticking up for people. Be pissed off all you want. I think most everyone here knows that my tongue is sharp and I call it like I see it. In that way we're similar people either hate me for it or they love me for it but you'll never get anything out of me other than 100% pure honesty, and as far as I've seen the people here are blunt and to the point also.

Just one more thing have you ever heard of being the bigger person? Turning the other cheek maybe? Don't resort to name calling or ignorance, it makes you no better than anyone else that does it.

What started all of this was people calling you on your arrogance you can't fault anyone for that. Not when you blatantly throw it in our faces. There is always the option to ignore people you feel are inappropriate. My advice use it and all of this fuss and ridiculousness will stop.

If you take that much offense to what people have to say then I recommend you not bother posting.

Brain My advice is stop responding to the post. I once used a word I made up for the urban dictionary called (Bout ya) I know It hit some nerves. Just look at my post asking what musication means. I ask a simple question turns into me feeling like I'm the butt of a joke. It takes a stronger man to walk from a fight then try and prove he's right.

I said I have a lawyer in my family after you told me to watch my mouth and they can go in and see where you pm'ed me , my response to you after you told me to watch my mouth, you, the first PMing person, yes I took up for myself and said I have a lawyer in my family after you told me to watch my mouth. All I had said at that point was you had an attitude problem and you do, you need to get your facts straight...glyn

Scott, just read the Musication thread. You realize that we were having fun with it. Sorry if you felt bad about it because I participated in it. I notice that you even added a light hearted comment yourself, so I don't think that you were really offended.

I started a thread a while back and Big Jim made a comment that I thought was insulting at the time. BJ and I had a couple of back and fourth comments to each other, but you know what? It's forgotten. I still like and respect Jim as much as before. He is a wealth of knowledge. It was petty and not worth the outrage that I displayed. These things happen occasionally but go away and things get back to normal. No use in burning bridges.

JD..welcome to JPF..I remember you well from the other site i used to jump onto a few years back 101..you are well known on that site for your (strong) views..but thats just you i suppose..i remember we crossed swords a few times in the distant past..you could call it handbags at dawn stuff really....anyway i do know you had a bad deal with the sudden death of your fiancee on that site, the lovely Theresa Austin....she was real nice lady, and helpful to all....take a wee leaf out her book JD..this is a very good site for the aspiring songwriter, there is a lot of knowledge floating around here, and the folks are so helpful...i see a lot of"bad press" in this thread, and we all know the hurdles a lyricist faces in finding that "needle in the haystack" collaborator...but as the old saying goes JD,you will catch more bees with honey on your tongue, than vinegar....in the writers instance, the pen is his biggest asset, but his tongue can be his biggest enemy,so think about it,calm your jets a wee touch, don't get personal....remember You are looking to find someone who can help unlock your future aspirations....you are a talented writer...but so are a lot of other folks...and talent doesn't always come first in this business...but being able to get along with folks, goes a long way...all the best in your quest...Terry..

By the way, Terry--

I came here with my first priority being getting the song I wrote after Teresa died demoed by someone I felt was worthy to do that demo, called "Goodbye."
_________________________________

Goodbye

Remember how you thought my songs were always about you
I told you I write whatever strikes me outta the blue
We used to argue so—
Do you remember
Well this song’s about you

Remember when I said you put your perfume on too thick
I said go easy, baby—it’s gonna make me sick
Remember when I said you couldn’t sing to save your life
Do you remember
Because I do

And I’d give anything to hear you sing another tune…

Honey I still see you inside my mind
When I close my eyes and listen
I can hear you every time I try
This ain’t easy for me—it’s so final
Still dreamin’ dreams like you’re right here with me
Right here with me
I never thought I’d have to say goodbye

I know you know I loved you cuz I told you so
Sayin’ I love you is easy—it’s a harder thing to show
We had good times and there was lots of laughter
Like when we kissed beneath the stars the night you died
I never thought I’d have to say goodbye

Honey I still see you inside my mind
When I close my eyes and listen
I can hear you every time I try
This ain’t easy for me—it’s so final
Still dreamin’ dreams like you’re right here with me
Right here with me
I never thought I’d have to say goodbye

I wish I could take back every hurtful word I ever said
I wish I held you tighter every night we laid in bed
I wish the ambulance could’ve came so much sooner

Honey I still see you inside my mind
When I close my eyes and listen
I can hear you every time I try
This ain’t easy for me—it’s so final
Still dreamin’ dreams like you’re right here with me
And I never had to say goodbye

This ain’t easy for me—it’s so final
Still dreamin’ dreams like you’re right here with me
And I never had to say goodbye

Goodbye

JD,

since your last post seems to indicate you're able to write nicely when your feathers are not ruffled, I'll venture myself and write a few words to you.

When you said you were a good lyricist, it made me smile a bit but it didn't shock me. All the more so because I do think you're a good lyricist. I read your songs and think they all have something that lots of people could agree to call 'good'.

I started to feel uneasy when you used words and phrases such as 'better' and 'the best'. Which was unnecessarily over the top and disparaging. Boasting is fine with me, disparaging is an entirely different thing in my book.

I'm a teacher and I have one student with Asperger syndrome. He's immensely clever, as I'm sure you are. He had serious problems of integration in the past. Four years ago, he lived in a hospital, couldn't go out without screaming. He now goes to the same school as my kids, where he has many friends. He's still acting a bit 'funny'sometimes, but he's gone a long way and no one knows where his improvement will take him, but we sure are proud of him.

Thank you for sharing that with me Yann. I promise I'm trying my best...Gods knows, but I still have mountains to learn. I am trying. I regret putting off the feeling that I thought I was better than anyone. My fiance really couldn't sing! But I loved her much more than I ever loved myself. One foot in front of the other. I'll try.

You're clever: you certainly can see you asked for a collaborator and found none. From a strictly rational point of view, the strategy obviously doesn't work. That's all we're trying to say: try - I know it's difficult, even for me at times, lol - to bear in mind you're asking for something, not just offering something. And people don't give easily to those who don't ask politely.

I sincerely wish you could agree with some of the points I made. Someone may have great songs; but if no one wants to listen to them because they were badly presented, what difference with no songs at all?

Sincerely hope you'll cool off and share the discussion again, take care,

Yann. (I go to 101 once in a while, I saw you offered mentoring and demoing services for free, you can't be as bad as it sometimes appeared ;-)

Oops,

you posted while I was finishing :-)

Glad to see you back! I'm sure a lot of fellow JPFers will be sensitive to the new tone you've adopted. I am. A belated welcome, if it means something to you. Yann.

It's unfortunate this post turned so ugly. There's actually some good advice being offered by Stan and Jim in particular and the lyric offered up demonstrates some writing potential as well.

I suggest we chalk this up to the darker side of the internet and the ability someone might have to self destruct. Everyone has the potential to go where they shouldn't now and then and say things they may regret. If this sort of thing pops up again, or the person in question is incapable of function in a positive way then I guess he'll have to move on elsewhere or start over. But let's hope that instead a reset button can be pushed and a year from now we can laugh about the meltdown.

What do you say gang?

Scott (Ordinary Guy) wow! I'm so sorry you felt like the butt of a joke. We were all having fun with the word, not laughing at you! I always loved the way the word was used around here. It was an opportunity to "mess with it". NOBODY in that thread was poking fun at you.

JD, it sounds like you go from "cold" to "hot" pretty quickly. Try not to read too much into what people say. This is a really friendly site, one of the best I've ever been part of, and a lot of folks here are above average in talent. They're just a lot more humble about it. You never know who's reading these boards. Every wonder who all the "anonymous users" are? I understand that your condition might interfere with the way that you interract with people, but here you should try to bear in mind that the motto is "We're all in this together" and we subscribe heavily to that motto. Your material is really good, and no one faults you for admitting that...but around here, the best writers lead by example and help those who are struggling. I've performed music for a long time, but I'm just now writing. If someone knocked me down, I'd probably never pick up a pen again. However, because of the encouragement I've received here, I might one day (MAYBE) be comparable to you or someone else on your level. Keep that in mind when you respond to the writing of others.

BTW, I know Glyda very well, she is one of the best people I've ever met in my life and has a heart of gold. There is no way she'd start anything. She was pointing out the attitude, which was an alarming one. I'm glad to see the waters are calmer now. smile

I know that Glenda took what I said as hostile; I was pretty mad, but I promise I'm not about to threaten anyone on this site. I never threatened her, and I do hope she forgives my rudeness.

I am going to endeavor to project that I might actually sort of...God help me...suck in some ways. Yes--I can feel a warm sort of mediocrity cascading down around my ears right now! It feels fabulous!

Who knows; with a well-honed sense of self doubt and uncertainty, there might be no stopping me. Before long, if I put enough effort into it, my attitude may be as blank a slate as my avitar, and I'll have to hire people to field offers from likeminded souls all wanting a piece of the nothingness I could, with a bit of creativity, become.

I thank you all for your tolerance of my quirks--and for your intolerance of those same quirks. This sort of life lesson most people have to spend at least $23.00 at Barnes & Nobles to learn...and it took me but a scant few days. I suck, and I'm proud of it! Bartender...a round for the house. These guys rock!

JD....Many have given sage advice here.

I suspect you have taken it to heart.
Having read your lyrics I can see your potential.
