Second time, not second hand! To correct my hand condition, Dupuytren's contracture.
Anyway, it's scheduled for Nov. 24th. for anyone starring at their screens here waiting for the date. LOL. Ha!
It's to do the same kind of needle procedure as I had three years ago. This nasty condition for a piano player is the aggressive form I have, (lucky me), so it came back.
The nodules are bigger than before, and in more places, (other fingers too), as well as the cord like bands starting on my left hand. Oh boy!
Oh, to be English!
Anyone else have it?
Restrictive Playing John. (But close your eyes, and I still might do OK).

I realize this condition isn't considered serious for the normal person, but for a pianist it's a nightmare. I hope the needle procedure helps big time John. My thoughts will be with you on the 24th. Take care, John

At first, I thought you were having a used (or previously owned) procedure. Thanks for clearing that up. I hope the procedure clears up your problem. I understand that Dupuytren's contracture can be disconcerting (pun intended) for a pianist. Best of luck with it. Kurt

I don't have that but I do have Flexor Teninitis (Trigger finger). It is not as serious as Dupuytren's contracture but it is becoming a problem. The pain is getting worse and so is the stiffness. I can't completely straighten out my middle finger of my left hand anymore and I have a Ganglion Cyst at the knuckle on the palm side. It gets stuck when I am playing guitar and I can't get to the next chord. I have had the steroid injection. It helped for a few months but now it is back. It is starting to interfere with my chording on the guitar now. But that might not be such a bad thing. It gives me a good excuse for playing badly. Surgery is indicated now. I just need to get it done before the finger develops a permanent bend. Good luck with your surgery John. I'm sure you will do fine.

Sorry to hear about the hand, John. I hope all goes well with the procedures.
If you feel like you need to "prepare yourself", you can go to that street where I used to live. I'm sure you can find someone walking around that can provide assorted needles and things to help relieve the pain.

John,
best wishes. I'm a pianist myself and I wouldn't like that. My worst nightmare is to become deaf, though. Not being able to play is bad, not being able to hear would be worse, I think. But I do wish you the best.
Take care, Yann

Take care, John Thanks John Yes, it helped the first time, so I am counting on another successful job! Three years ago, my hand specialist was but one of five in the US that did this procedure. He bothered to go to Paris to learn directly from the inventor of the needle procedure.

Wow Bill,,,,make sure you get with a hand specialist that has a great reputation. I will see if I can get a recommendation for you near your area from my hand doc. He's one of the best in the US. I'm just lucky to be near him, (a little over an hour away). Thanks for your thoughts. (the funny one too, about the bad playing. I KNOW what you mean!

Beth Thanks Beth! Yes, it is time, or I will have to just play the guitar, which this condition is great for, (since my right hand is just about in the pick holding position anyway)! Been strumming like I'm made for it! Ha!

It's just a hand.....I didn't think I would get all these replies. Just was posting it for a lack of something clever to write for a new post. You know me personally, but many here don't, and it;s really something,,,,humbling and touching to read all the replies. I am somewhat nervous about the "procedure, for there is a risk, as with anything invasive. (nerve damage my concern). BUT this doc is the best at it in the states, (history of him doing it), sooooo,,,,its nice to read yours and everyone's posts here. Just surprised at how many. Great bunch of folks, huh?

Did the first one work out well, John? Yes Jean, it sure did! Was playing the next day, Very little discomfort. Only when doing he rehab for it, which was just stretching my fingers back. NO biggie at all. I was able to play with full expression and without a stiff and awkward feel as now again. Can not use my fifth finger much at all, and the fourth and third are just clumsy and puffed up form the palm on up. Minor of course compared to real medical problems some of my friends have, here and personal. Very minor.

Take care, Yann What???? (Get it?) Yeah,,,being deaf, unless a Beethoven, (which I am not), would be much worse, for sure. This is more of an annoyance. Not fun to go backwards in playing capability. But not a major health thing.

Hi John..
I got this condition in June. I noticed it after hitting a couple of buckets of softballs. I have the nodules, but no contraction yet. They are painful sometimes, but so far it doesn't affect anything I do. Good luck with the surgery.
