Hey kids, As I was watching Conan O'Brien last night and missing my local boy Jay Leno, I was reminiscing about some of the more entertaining segments that latter used on his version of "The Tonight Show". Aside from Ross the Intern, who is FAB, and of course "Jay-Walking", I always got a kick out of "Tattoo or No Tattoo?", where he'd walk up to various people on the street, ask a little bit about them, then let his audience guess if the person did or did not have a tattoo. Not always as obvious as one might expect! Anyway, that got me thinking about our crazy crew here at JPF. We've all had ample opportunity to observe Calvin's peace sign tattoo (approximately 3 inches in diameter, and half-way down his upper right arm, at the top of his bulging bicep and just beneath his huge shoulder muscle -- well, at least I THINK so, I haven't really paid much attention to it.... ) ), but the question remains: what OTHER tattoos lurk on the ankles, navels, shoulder blades, etc., of the rest of the JPF'ers? SOOO, if you feel like playing.... 1) What tattoo(s) do you have? 2) Would you mind sharing the story(s) behind it (them)? 3) On a scale of 1-10, how would you qualify your level of regret about said tattoo(s), with "1" being "not at all, I still love it" and "10" being, "I never even knew his last name".... 4) Any tattoo(s) you'd still like to get? 5) BONUS POINT TIME: Any pics you have or can take of your tat's, that you might be able/willing to post? Okay, who's first???? Beth P.S. Let me get THIS out of the way: if I DO have any tattoos, I haven't seen them in ages....

I have three. All small dots that were used alignment and proper griding for radiation therapy.
Other than that, nope. Never even got drunk enough in the service to get one.

Sorry, no tattoos (ergo, no stories, repeatable or not, and no fun photos). No plans to get any, either. I am probably just too old-fashioned. I don't do piercings, either.

Hey Dak, Hmmm, I didn't realize those marks were permanent. I'm sorry you needed them to begin with, but since you're using the past tense here, I'll assume that you had a successful outcome . Maybe you could add a little more of this and that and make something musical out of them... Still, I apologize if bringing this up was disconcerting to you. That certainly wasn't my intent... Thank you for sharing, and take it easy... Beth

I cannot speak to other similar tattoos but mine are permanent, almost hunter green. While the radiation regimen occurred in 2000 thus the past tense usage. Other treatments are, and will be, ongoing unless a cure is found. What's really strange to me is, during the weeks of radiation treatments the lower of the three dots migrated about 90 degrees from it's original location in line with the other two dots.

What Mr. Tracy is referring to is the fact that he, (Tom Tracy) shares an uncanny resemblance to John Lennon who I happened to have tattooed on my arm. We played a gig (Mr. Tracy and I, not John Lennon and me) and somebody came up wanting to know why I had a picture of our bass player tattooed on my arm. I told them Tom was my secret lover. Strange thing was, I think they bought that! I was going to get a portrait of Yoko on my other arm, but I don’t want it to be confused with John Daubert!

Hey Josephy, No need to apologize! But frankly, I'm surprised at the no piercings information! I was SURE you'd have a nice little belly-button ring under your belt buckle!! Well, the day is young, right? Beth

I have a vaccination mark from the third grade! I always wanted to get a tattoo of a colorful parrot on my shoulder (Polly the parrot). I want Andy and I to get tattoos together of something that resembles the other one. I have a really funny tattoo joke: B.B. King's wife wanted to do something special for their wedding anniversary, so she got a tattoo of a "B" on each of her butt cheeks. She booked a room in a really nice hotel, made reservations at a very exclusive restaurant, and took B.B. out for the evening. When they got back to the hotel room, she waited until he went to use the restroom and got undressed. Then she climbed on the bed and kneeled so when he came out he could see her butt. So he comes out of the restroom, and she says, "Well baby, what do you think?" He replies, "Well baby, that's mighty fine, but...who is BOB???"

Beth, No tats. Spent 23 years and 23 days in the Army (7 June '65 - 30 June '88). Never felt the need to get one. It wouldn't increase my testosterone...just the pigmentation in my skin. No piercings, either. Not so much that I'm old-fashioned like that old fart, Joe ( ), it's just something that doesn't appeal to me. My ex-wife always said that rose at the top of her left breast originally was not the long-stemmed variety. Something happened along the way! With that thought in mind, and remembering the date on my birth certificate, I'm thinking I may have made a wise choice. Unlike a painting or drawing, the canvass of a tattoo does not remain consistent in most cases. Thus, the answer to the other questions will have to be "N/A". However, I haven't shaved my mustache since 1971! The beard comes and goes. None of my kids can remember having seen me without a mustache. That's probably a good thing! Alan

Hey Dak, Well your post is both bizarre (on the movement of one of your hunter green dots ) and frustrating -- in that "Other treatments are, and will be, ongoing unless a cure is found." Nevertheless, I appreciate your willingness to play along with my silly little thread here. "Just statin' the facts, ma'am", and all that. Though I'm unaware of your specific diagnosis, I do know that you have a sense of humor, and medical treatments aside, THAT should hold you in good stead for quite some time! Keep smiling and I wish you much luck as you continue to undergo your various treatments. With a wicked low pain thresshold preventing tattoo considerations, Beth

No tats here. I've got a pierced left ear, but stopped wearing the earring when my son was about a year and a half old. He was standing next to me on the couch and put his finger in the earring, then jumped off the couch!!! Luckily, I scooped him up and stood up to mitigate his inertia, so I didn't get a torn ear. I stopped wearing the earring (which was actually my engagement ring) that day, and just never got into it again.
Of course, there are my nipple rings....

I do have a tat of a skunk character on my right bicep.
Got it done in Augusta Georgia with a bunch of Army buddies. Funny thing is we did it before we started drinkin.
I always wanted to get a tattoo of a dot. Of course under certain conditions it would read Joe's Bar and Grill.

I have a young angel with blonde hair and blue wings playing a harp on my lower outside right leg, when the guy that did it ( free for my birthday one year) it was just a little thing and by the time he was through it looks like the angel grew up and now going to college....it is bigger than I thought it would be..but it's about the size of my palm...and it is pretty...if it hadn't been for my birthday and free, I wouldn't have gotten it..glyn

No tattoos for me – some artistic ones can be fine, but I have yet to see a piece of skin that has been improved by a tattoo.

I've always loved roses, however the fear of rosebuds turning to longstems has kept that from happening. Of course, that would mean they'd be on the chest, and I'm just not really into pain, yes, I'm a wuss..now if they could tattoo away the big butt, a permanant cover up, hmmm...nope, too much ink! So...no tats here.
My sister has a few, she regrets them from time to time but overall, they really are part of her history, what have made her the grown up, responsible woman she is today. So I think it depends on the person. She wasn't responsible when she got them, but they remind her of that, and she's really a great mom and has 3 great kids, partly b/c of the experiences that led to the tats.

Hey Iggy, Thanks for the history -- it all makes sense now! Tom should put back up his avatar which demonstrates that resemblance so nicely. In the meantime, I hope you don't mind my having snitched a photo of the afore-mentioned tattoo!! But that Mr. Tracy is an untrustworthy sort as you know , and I felt photgraphic evidence was in order! Thanks for sharing, Beth

Joe Hi Joe, You make a very good point here. I mean REALLY, our skin sort pulls it all together, doesn't it? At the very least, should we be worried about our "essence" leaking out somehow? And if so, are there feng shui matters we should be considering? Dear me.... STILL, thank you for adding your thoughts to the conversation... Beth

Hi Everyone, No tattoo's here, but I've actually been considering getting a small faery tattoo on my ankle.I did have my eyebrow pierced about six years ago.My daughter(who was five at the time)crashed into me face first(I still can not figure out how it happened)and it ripped the eyebrow ring out,so I have a pretty big scar on my left eyebrow. So i really do regret that decision. Also,I once had a birth mark on my tummy that was the exact shape of a little poodle...over the years it has grown more to resemble a full grown St.Bernard.

Hey Polly, Forget a parrot -- you need to get a tattoo of a LOVEBIRD!! You and Andy can get them so they're sort of mirror images of each other... Still, that is a cute idea. You could even have a speech bubble saying, "HEY! Can't a parrot get a decent cracker around here?" or something like that? I'm not sure which celebrity couple it is, but at least one of them, in lieu of wedding bands, got rings "tattooed" on their individual ring fingers. I thought that was pretty cool... Finally, your joke is very cute. I know another tattoo joke about a certain growing male "member", but that one's a bit over the top!! Anyhoo, thanks for sharing. Hope all's well in Andyland.... See ya! Beth

No Tattoos or piercings for me. I'm quite pleased with what God gave me and I don't think those things will improve me one little bit. LOL I did have some moles removed though, that was for health reasons mainly.

Hey Alan, Boy, I feel a bit frivolous talking about tattoos and such while you and Helen are dealing once again with a medical crisis. Though perhaps it could be a nice diversion, too. In fact, maybe now is the time for you and Helen to get His and Hers tattoos! Of if you don't want to put her through anything remotely painful, maybe you could take one for the team over here, and get a musical note done on your posterior!! I know, I know, I don't get out enough. Still, you've made some interesting points here, Al. First, your stint in the Army -- 23,23 -- is pretty cool...you should definitely play those numbers somewhere. And the story of the long-stemmed rose is a kick. Just as well she's your ex-wife! I don't recall now if I already mentioned that tattoo joke, which is much more of the Very Raunchy Kind than Polly's relative demure one (though I enjoyed it, girlie!). I won't repeat it, due to the delicate ears of some of our JPF'ers, but it does have to do with tattoos on a certain male body part, where letters read one word "normally", but during times of excitement shall we say, it reads something else entirely. Not quite "Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious", but something along those lines (wink, wink)!! Finally, I thought your "canvass of a tattoo" remark has the makings of a good hook. Could be a fun one, describing how different tattoos morph into different things as we get older. Or you could just focus on one person, using the tattoo as the device for connecting all the verses, marking the different turning points in the person's life. Anyway, just food for thought... Sorry to go on and on....I was really just hoping to take your mind off everything for a couple of sentences! Sending love and healing hugs to both of you, Beth

No tattoos. I was born with a mole on the end of my nose. Was made fun of as a kid. They called me "Tin Man" from "The Wizard Of Oz". Had it removed about 5 years ago. I have a scar there now.

I am SO going to make an extra effort to get down to the Demo Derby next year (if it still happens ). BTW, that story of your son and your earring made me absolutely cringe. Even though it didn't get pulled out...arrgh, I can visualize it. Still I didn't know fellas got engagement rings too -- cool way to display it. Or at least it was. Maybe as a toe ring? Anyhoo, thanks for sharing, Mike. Hope all's well with you.... Beth

HiDee Mz O, & Thanks for an Enjoyable Thread!
I've got Zero Tats so-far..tho if I ever get "Retired" from the Clock Biz...& a few bux ahead, I'm tempted to get "OUCH!" tattooed in big Very-Colorful Old-English letters w/shading along my right bicep..just for fun.
La Femme's likely to divorce me over it tho...&..I'm already-guilty of a whole lotta Rednecky Habits that get her dander up..so we'll see how this Dream pans out over the Future Years.
I'm not much into Physical Pain..so dunno 'bout tattoos..in-general. But..as a Perpetual Souvenir of Someplace or Sometime "Special"...I can certainly see Why Folks Do 'Em.
Think it pays to seek out a real ARTIST to do the job. Saw a gal a while back who'd snuck this really BEAUTIFUL small Rectangular-Framed Scene of a Beautiful Valley..UNDER her Forearm. About 2-by-4-inches, LOTS of Colors...it was really Awesome...& Very Discreet.
As for the Guy-With-The-Headfull...kinda looks like a "Cry-For-Help" Job, & them Laser-Erasings are sure gonna HURT when he gets his head back-together...JMO.
I've always LOVED that Jimmy Buffett "Margaritaville" verse about "& It's a Real Beauty..a Mexican Cutie...How It Got HERE I Haven't a Clue"... If I ever make it to Fiji, I'm pretty SURE La Femme's gonna hate me...heh!
Best Wishes & Big (Bare-Armed) Hugs backatcha, Ol' Stan

So how the heck are ya? Long time no chat? Hope the dating seen is going a bit more smoothly for you.... ANYHOO, it SO does not surprise me that you have an angel tattoo!! And the harp, too -- completely captures your essence! Love the back story -- and if you feel like taking a picture, I'd enjoy taking a peek at it. As I've mentioned, I would be WAY too afraid to get one. I get "pricked" way too often as it is, (and not in a good way either, ba-DUM!)....sooooo. Thanks for chiming in here Glynda. I hope that angel continues to watch over you (or up at you? ) for a long time to come. Ciao for now, Beth

I am afraid of pain so not tatts or piercings here. Hey Jim, I knew we could look past "American Idol" and find some common ground! Hey, did you hear Paul Abdul has yet to be approached about a contract for this coming season??!! Anyhoo, thank goodness my ob/gyn is a big baby too and doesn't necessarily advocate Pain During Delivery -- otherwise I would never have been given my epideural at 8 months (ha, only kidding. But I did get it WAY early, like at 1 cm... ). That aside, I hope all's well in the Land of Tartans, and thanks for chiming in! See ya! Beth

No tattoos for me – some artistic ones can be fine, but I have yet to see a piece of skin that has been improved by a tattoo. Hey Nige... Quite understandable. Though I suspect that morphing the name of a former boyfriend/girlfiend into a unicorn or something might be nice.... Funny though, I figured you to have a tattoo. On your shoulder or something. Just goes to show you how much I know -- NOT MUCH! Thanks for stopping by... Beth

... but overall, they really are part of her history, what have made her the grown up, responsible woman she is today. So I think it depends on the person. She wasn't responsible when she got them, but they remind her of that, and she's really a great mom and has 3 great kids, partly b/c of the experiences that led to the tats. Well howdy Caroline! I think you've made an excellent point here. At least for those who at some level do regret getting their tattoo(s). Roses are pretty, I agree, but again, I'm with ya on the pain business. Every once and a while I'll stumble upon that Tattoo Show ( Hollywood Ink? something like that...) and if I watch any of the actual application, YIKES.... I guess that would be a good reason to get it on your back (side) . I did see one woman who had her fella's name put on the back of her neck, just below her hairline, so you didn't necessarily always see it. Something about that was sexy.....but hey, I'd think lifting one's tank top would be just as impactful as lifting one's ponytail!!! Okay, I'm digressing again. One more on this thread, then I better move on! Thanks for playing, and I'll catch up with you later... Beth

Definitely don't like anything enough to tattoo it on my body... I should develop some interests.

Glad you could chime in on the tattoos -- I think your "excuse" is perfectly legitimate. Besides, that whole "interests" business really is overrated!! Ciao for now, Beth

I always go back and forth about tattoos... I think I wanna get one on either my shoulder, foot, or forearm... But I'd definitely wanna draw/ write it!

I appreciate a good tat but don't have any. I can't justify, in my mind, letting someone permanently doodle on my body. There are so many of them now that they have lost that sense of rebelousness and originality. Getting tired of the shock and amaze crowd.
Tats used to mean that you accomplished something in your life or passed a milestone. Now its more of a statement of how much money you can waste. I respect the tats that are memorials or that promote a sense of belonging.
I'm personally collecting scars and they mean more to me than any cartoon doodle ever could. Most of them are really original too.

Well, whichever way you go -- and wherever you put it -- do let us know! I still think the idea of a musical note would be nice. Maybe on a ankle. But I'm too much of a wimp! Have a cool day, Beth
