Well, firstly, apologies to my legions of fans - I think there's 3 including my 2 cats - but I am going to have pull out of this competition. And, no, it's not 'cos I'm worried I couldn't duke it out with Mr Caro for the best rock version of Nowhere Man (alright maybe I was a little worried on that front!) but because in my attempts to put a new slant on the song, I changed many chords, the tempo, and the whole god damn melody to boot, and it sounded pretty good and very far removed the original, so I thought to myself, why don't I just put new words to this and make it the 12th song on my album? (Mental Energy out on iTunes June 09).

So many thanks for starting this competiton and thanks to all those who voted for Nowhere Man, as I got a new song out of it.

Hi Ricki...I have tried several times to enter for March but can only get February...This is unusual. KEEP TRYING...It should come soon unless Ourstage is not broken. I will try and contact them to see what the prob is.

Forget last post Ourstage has now opened entries for March..so get entering..... YIPEE.

For those who do not know how.....go to your profile then songs and then click "manage my stuff" tab then select your version of Nowhere Man click on compete tab and enter it in March under the "Cover" pull down menu.

Could someone tell me about how long it takes to upload an mp3
to ourstage. I'm not sure if my computer is giving me grief...
or does it normally take a bit?

I have broadband..but it's not fast....soundclick would normally
take a couple minutes for a 3 minute song...

just want to be sure it's not my computer....

and..

Do you all upload mp3's or waves ....

Hi Kaley glad you got it done will listen later....the speed a song uploads depends on several factors...the speed of the PC...the size and type of file you are uploading....the type and speed of broadband and the connection...the speed the upload site allows....etc.

It might pay you to have your pc checked if things are running slow....could be a virus...needing a defrag...too much on the memory...uneccessary stuff running in the background...all these things can be sorted easily and will make your PC run faster.

So, since I am a solo artist, I did a one take live version of Nowhere Man...When we first selected this song, alot of people were like "I can relate" or "that sounds like me". I tried to capture that emotion with a little "surprise" at the end. I hope you enjoy.

well I just went through the list and listened to them all and I just want to say that I think they are ALL great - Best wishes in the cover competition....

I would like to mention that Mike Caro's link is the only one that asks me to Join.... all the other go direct to the song.... I got to listen to his when he first posted and it's the only one that I did not listen to today......

Thanks Herbie! It is a bit of a rhumba I suppose. I had a different arrangement with a few jazz chords and took it to my guitar teacher last week. He revised my arrangement and added even more jazz chords. Since I'd been practicing it for weeks the other way, I knew I wouldn't be able to play it on guitar (the jazz chords are hard for me to play..well everything is hard for me to play) so I transposed it to my keyboard. I'm going to continue working on it on guitar however.

I really liked yours too Herbie. In fact, I liked everybody's. This was a fun challenge. I learned a lot about music theory with this.

JM - I liked yours as well. You should post it.

I noticed that there is a Cover Band category on OurStage but it says, "The Cover Bands channel is for bands who are performing their own versions of previous works by other bands or musicians. Entrants to this channel should be from a band that performs exclusively covers of other band's material, not artists who have done single covers."

I don't see any other category for covers. Are we supposed to put it there anyway or are we actually entering them on OurStage? If this was addressed previously and I missed it, sorry to be redundant.

Hi Wendy Covers it is.....that is where we have all entered. We qualify as there is no other place to put covers....If you posted elsewhere it would be flagged and put in covers. "not artists who have done single covers" has been pointed out and is BEING ADDRESSED.

Well we are up and running...I have seen all the "Nowhere Man" versions on Ourstage.....Mark is in the lead...so far....We are causing quite a stir already...some comments "why all the Nowhere Man songs" what is the point type things....way to go folks....see if we can get several Nowhere Man versions in the top ten.....that would be neat... confusing as well as rewarding. LOL

Hey Guys and Girls...I've been missing for awhile....in and out here....still do not have a lot of time like I used to.....Terri's(my wife) Mom has some issues right now we are dealing with.....try to support that....so fun time is limited....I got spurred by this post of Jim's....so I dragged out the recorder and laid down this track.....

Just me and my old crappy guitar playing.....loved the Beatles of course.....I have listen to most of the versions which are all unique and great.....I'll try to get back and comment...

I notice that Jim's version of Blinded By The Light in in 10th in the Cover category beating all the versions of Nowhere Man. Is that a case of song choice? = )

I also didn't think you could enter multiple songs in 1 genre? Did they change that rule?

Hi Brian Yes they changed that rule but only for covers.... unfortunately they did not act on my request to withdraw Blinded by the Light...I did not want it entered in March. I clicked on withdraw but it still was entered.

It was entered last month and was 1st or 2nd for most of the month...with only hours to go it plummeted out of contention.

On the flip side my Nowhere Man entry is pretty near the bottom of the pile.

Just proves my point...The Ourstage judges know nothing...LOL

The ourstage judges are your peers... = )

It occurs to me that we may have over-saturated the category and are making the world (or at least the ourstage cover band part of it) sick of the song.

I wondered if there was some poor devil out there who is unaffiliated with JPF and picked this month to put his "Nowhere Man" cover on ourstage. Boy, would he be SOL.

Doesn't appear to be the case though - it looks like all of them are ours...

Don't feel pregnant. Mine is so far down on the list, I got a cramp in my hand hitting the back button so many times, just to find it. I suspect when they say cover band, they mean as close to the original as you can get. No room for artistic expression there. Maybe we should have just kept it at jpf and had our own contest?

Well ya know it's cool to try stuff so doing this was good.

Yes it is NOT doing us any good having so many Nowhere Mans on Our Stage at once.

As far as Our Stage goes we should have done our PICK here first! Then enter that winner into Our Stage to represent all of us. Now we stand a much better chance.

What I have learned for sure is from hearing a bunch of songs they want you to sound MOST like the original. Cover Band! get it Duh! I should submit stuff from when I was 16 We were a "Cover Band"

Well hopefully our own Mark K. can keep staying close enough and in range to have a decent shot at it. We needed a shorter month as most of us got close early then blasted out of there completely But I guess if you go to sleep at #20 then wake up at #280 it can work the other way too?? LOL

PS - For anyone who may take that contest seriously or to heart, don't!
You'd be surprised how folks can get! If your not doing well It's OKAY!

My version of Nowhere Man has gone nowhere man...but I had over 60 plays last time I checked (hooray for me)!

It was fun. Maybe Nowhere Man really is, "uncoverable." Perhaps we proved the theory?
