ok..i wanted to take this popular kids saying and put it in a song for kids...maybe to go in a childrens christian book or something ..maybe sell it as a single ..something ! any thoughts on the lyric?
"God Made Dirt,Dirt Dont Hurt"
v
Danny dropped his dum dum on the playground picked it up and took a look around the other kids were busy playing duck duck goose so he did what any other little boy would do he wiped it off and stuck it right back in his cheek then he heard " eww your gross" coming from a tree busted by Emma Lee the cutest girl in school (but) she just smiled and said" na, its cool "
chorus
God made dirt , dirt don't hurt from it we're made and to it we'll return Jesus healed a blind mans eyes with it mixed with spit and He washed feet that walked all day in it God made dirt, dirt dont hurt
v
Then Emma drew a line in the sand and said " remember when Jesus did this with his own hand? He said he who has not sinnned cast the first stone" they all dropped their rocks and left the woman alone the Bible says we must be spotless and pure but it's not talking about our exterior why ,you could stand before God covered in mud just as long as your washed in the blood !
chorus
bridge
so it's not what we put in our mouths though we should be careful what we eat it's what we allow to come out that really makes us unclean
chorus

Heather, this is a really cute idea.I love the first verse,it was very visual.I would say depending on the child age group you are directing this at,the second verse, though probably good for older children with religious backgrouds, might be a little scary for younger kids with less religious training. The words blood and stone throwing.anyway i do think its a great idea.good luck with it...sherry

good write never be afraid to express your religious faith! It's not scary for any little child as a matter of fact I taught both my children when they were less than 2 by reading them stories with pictures of biblical scenes in them, so that woman is wrong, it's more scary to not teach them

thanks yall..Sherry , i remember being 8 and 9 years old going to church and I understood what washed in the blood meant.....i knew it was a beautiful thing ..not sure if a 5 year old would though ..i guess it depends on whether or not the kid that would hear it has already heard the term..maybe it would make them ask the quuestion ! what does this mean Dad/Mom? thanks so much yall

Hi Heathergal ...have been thinking a bit....when I saw this. very nice...and neat to see this I've made a promise that my next chidren's CD will be Bible based...... I think your first verse is an adorable set up... I'm wondering if somehow...Emma...should get in that 7th line so she doesn't suddenly enter the scene in the 2nd verse?....just a thought. and I also wondered if the last 4 lines with a slight change follows that first chorus even better than the beginning of the 2nd verse as it now stands? The last 4 lines sound more like a kid talking to me in a Bible song or repeating what she's learned from Church as a followup to the first verse... than the other 4 lines... And...Danny.. the Bible says we must be spotless and pure but it's not talking about our exterior (LOVE that...rhyme!!) why ,you could stand before God covered in mud just as long as your washed in the blood I think because the lyric is going into two Biblical truths? I'd stick more in the line of that section pasted..... If your melody allowed it...I'd be tempted to say... maybe break up your first verse into two stanzas....follow with the chorus...and then come in with ..The Bible says we must be..... In any case...I enjoyed... Keep singin' them high notes Hugs, Kaley

Nothing against religion, (I'm a Christian) but I think this is a great idea and it would work better and have a much greater appeal if the bible references were removed. Had an idea for a chorus:
God made dirt, dirt don't hurt Heck they even call the planet Earth You can grow in it Cause what you sow in it You know it's gonna be returned So dig that dirt, Go big on dirt Remember where you heard it first Yeah God made dirt.... And dirt....don't....hurt
Best of luck with this!

thank you both ! Kaley how is it now as far as introdicing Emma in line 7 below ?? IM not sure what you mean on the 2nd verse? do you think i should just have a 4 line verse of this below (bottom)
Danny dropped his dum dum on the playground picked it up and took a look around the other kids were busy playing duck duck goose so he did what any other little boy would do he wiped it off and stuck it right back in his cheek then he heard " eww your gross" coming from a tree busted by Emma Lee the cutest girl in school (but) she just smiled and said" na, its cool " v2
the Bible says we must be spotless and pure but it's not talking about our exterior why ,you could stand before God covered in mud just as long as your washed in the blood !
chorus
and 9 ne ..i wanted to make this one for a kids cd ..i certainly see your point about bigger appeal..maybe I 'll do 2 versions!!
thanks!

Yes...that sounds clearer to me Heather... I'm not sure what I'm suggesting is right...It just sounded more kid like to me.... to...do this.. Danny dropped his dum dum on the playground picked it up and took a look around the other kids were busy playing duck duck goose so he did what any other little boy would do He wiped it right back off and stuck it in his cheek then he heard " eww your gross" coming from a tree busted by Emma Lee the cutest girl in school (that's good) (but) she just smiled and said" na, its cool " v2 Chorus... Danny.. the Bible says we must be spotless and pure but it's not talking about our exterior why ,you could stand before God covered in mud just as long as you're washed in the blood ! and or if you can get 4 more lines...that would stick closer to the dirt on the outside theme....if you need them. But with the line lengths...and such...you may be able to make it work with...the half verse. just how I was seeing gal...... Hugs to you...... Kaley

ok..i did some rewriting on the verse 2 ...I decided to take verse 2 away from Danny and Emma and make it more of a Bible teaching/lesson for the kids so they even learn a bible verse........ I may add a bridge but I dont think one is necessary .thoughts??
"Dirt Dont Hurt" H.Cowles/D.Wiegert
v
Danny dropped his sucker on the ground picked it up and took a good look around the other kids were busy playing duck duck goose so he did what any other boy would do he wiped it off and stuck it right back tween' his cheek then he heard " eww your gross" from behind a tree busted by Emma Lee the cutest girl in Sunday school but she just smiled and said "na, that's cool "
chorus
God made dirt , dirt don't hurt from it we're made and to it we'll return Jesus healed a blind man's eyes with it mixed with spit and He washed feet that walked all day in it God made dirt, dirt dont hurt
v
the Bible says we should be spotless and pure but it's not talking about our exterior you could stand before God covered in mud just as long as your washed in the (His) blood ! so when it comes to unclean and cleanliness Matthew Chapter 15 verse 11 says we're not unclean by what we put in our mouth's but by what we allow to come out
chorus

nubbin..we are made from the dust according to the BIble ( Genesis 2:7 ) and dust is nothing but tiny fragmants of dirt ..so we are made from dirt !! you and everyone else **according to the Bible**....this song is for Christians that believe the Bible..and Jesus took his own spit and mixed it with dirt and healed a blind mans eyes ( John 9: 6 )..its in the Bible too..I didnt say it Im just using it in the song..u should know this is Biblical from all the Christian things you write

yes ok now I found it
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

ok..i think im going to go another direction..something more universal to all kids , even those that dont go to church !! i got this idea because doctors are saying a little dirt is actually good for kids...yep! it boost their immune system..here we go ..I sent it in to my coach and he mentioned talking about good/bad germs..heres what I got
"Dirt Dont Hurt" H.Cowles/D.Wiegert
v
Danny dropped his sucker on the playground picked it up and took a good look around the other kids were busy playing duck duck goose so he did what any other boy would do he wiped it off and stuck it right back tween' his cheek then he heard " eww your gross" from behind a tree busted by Emma Lee the cutest girl in school but she just smiled and said "na, that's cool "
chorus
God made dirt dirt don't hurt go ask the doctor, go ask the nurse they even say it's good for kids if we eat just a little now and then God made dirt, dirt dont hurt
v2
Then Emma flopped (sat?)down by Danny and said did you know that not all germs are bad and that some germs can even be our friend to keep bad ones out we must let good ones in so if you eat something you dropped on the ground just make sure theres no doggie poo around and before long the school bell rang they both skipped off as they sang
chorus
bridge
its fun to squirt it with the hose and squeeze it all between your toes it makes mud pies and mushy clay ain't nothing you cant wash away
chorus

Heather, this latest version sounds more like 5 yr olds. There's nothing wrong with the biblical stories you used earlier either. The use of the word "exterior" in earlier versions is very un 5 yr old like. They might say "skin".
5 yr olds will know the stories but won't quote book chapter and verse.
you can stand before God covered in mud as long as you're washed in His blood
I love that line!
maybe pull back on the reins a bit and just the right verse will come to you.
Have fun, John

version 1 is what you want to keep IMO. It's true the girl in the tree wouldn't preach like that but it is after all the chorus; and especially if you do harmony vocal there, you have isolated what the girl said from the "sermon". I love your rhyme of 'pure" with 'exterior'. You're mining dirt and getting a few gems out of the ground.

I liked the more religious version must better. It has a great message. I especially like the part when you quoted Matthew 15:11.
