Hello! I really love the sound of your voice on this one! Reminds me of the sort of bluesy feeling I like in Robert Plant... As to market it, there's a lot of people out there - kids included - enjoying this roots music. It is just A&R people who don't know it. Keep going, Yann

Hi Moker,
Traditional bottle slide, or something fancier? Didn't know ya had it in you. As I've said before, I like all kinds of music that aren't about hate. You did this one very well. By the way, blues and jazz are still alive over in Europe. You might try to market this across the pond. Good luck with it.

Hi Moker, I see that you might record this again. I like it. Really good vibe. One little suggestion would be to sing "done" where you're singing "through". Think that might enhance the consistency of the voice for this one. That's all I had earlier when I listened. Loved the sounds. You got soul. Vanessa

Wow Moker, This is WAYYY cool!! Love love love it. A white boy singin' the blues! I do agree with Vanessa on switching that THROUGH to DONE. Would be much easier to make that transition. You are definitely sounding great on this one, both vox and guitar!! Hugs, Bobbie

Hey Moker
Haven't got the chance to listen so I'll review again when I get home. The lyrics look good and the structure is fine. Ridin bikes and playin stickball seems like an overused idea. However without hearing how it sounds I can't make a full judgement. and then again sometimes it's classic line like these that help pull the story together so keep or sweep. I like the transitions from young to old one this one it really takes you through the story. The one thing I'm left wanting is more originality in the story. It tends to sound like house of the rising sun in the third verse; not style wise just the story reminds me of that. I'll take a listen when I get home and review again. I like the overall feel of it; though I think it may need some more originaility. Derek

Bobbie, glad you enjoyed this, unless someone steers me to a place to market this I wouldn't have a clue as none of my contacts use this type of music, and of course I would have to go beyond this worktape to market it. But it is a fun one, it is acyually very difficult to play and sing at the same time, I'm working on it, but this is guitar on a track, vocal on the next take. thanks for listening and commenting and yeah I got a lot of blues in me, used to have a 3 piece band that did just about all blues.MJ

That's cool. I love the progression of the lyric. Really hits at the heart of blues. Good stuff... words, playing, singing everything.

Moker,
I really enjoyed this. It reminded me a lot of Paul Simon's "Late in the Evening," but your song is distinctive enough to stand on its own.
Simon's song starts with him being a child, then a little older kid checking out the girls, then a pre-21 playing guitar in a bar.
You might enjoy it checking it out.
One little nit-pick. Is "corn liquor" a little dated, especialy with "grass." I just wondered if someone who did grass would also enjoy corn.

Howdy Moker,
You are definitely right that it's tougher to place things like this...but I have had good demos done on two songs I never thought were very commercial...only to have just the right person tell me they want those songs. Soooo...I'd go with my heart on things like this. Make them the best you can...and do a bit of homework...there are places for them. This could be a film placement if someone couldn't afford one of the big name bluesmen...stuff like that. This could well go on a documentary.
All the best with it. Hugs, Bobbie

Derek, thanks for stopping in on this one. I've been following your progress with interest. The ridin' bikes and playin' stick ball were favorite past times of kids from this guys era, and I don't remember those 2 used together anywhere in a song I can remember, probably were though. I'll have to reread House of the Rising Sun, I haven't thought of that song in years but remember it being one of the first songs I learned on guitar. Anyway I do appreciate your visit and have a listen when you get a chance, it might explain where this fellas comin' from. MJ

Hey Moker another great song and great arrangement. Well I hope you had as much fun making it as I had listening. I disagree with Derek about the third verse and the House of the Rising Sun. Cannot really see what he means. There are many blues songs sung by old men wishing to be young again yes, (not that you are an old man LOL). There are also lots of boy meets girl songs. They far outnumber the old man wanting to be young again songs. So plenty room for more. Minor point I was waiting for the full band with everything but the kitchen sink to come crashing in after the first verse. You know what I mean drums bass and electric guitar. Like "giving it laldy" as we say in Scotland. Means go for it the works give it everything you got and them some..... Nice Job.
Oh and by the way the singer did great.... No need for me on that one... LOL

From a brother to another, I been there, and it's so cool to see how the deep realization of our vulnerability is actually not so deep, after all....
Do you have a score for this one yet?

Walt, appreciate the listen and comments...it may be a little dated but back in this fellas era they played alot of house poker games, had cases of moonshine corn liquor, and the musicians had weed to burn too. Met a couple of these guys along the way and they are some true characters if ever there were one. I do agree it's a dated thing, but here that's on purpose. And hey, welcome to JPF, good to meet ya, you'll find alot of music minded friends here..Thanks again...Moker

Bobbie, thanks again, I've done a little homework and I've found a couple places to pitch this. Now I've gotta make time between the other 12 songs on my music stand in the works to get this one cleaned up a bit so I can pitch it...ha...I'm sure you can relate to that feeling...be well...Moker

Big Jim, sorry for the delayed response, I've had family birthdays this week and have spent a few nights actually writing...this is a bunch of fun to play and sing, not so easy doin' both at the same time yet. If I go back in with this one I will consider that laldy kitchen sink approach...would be fun wouldn't it, although authenticity considered it probably would have been one old man, one old guitar, him with a bottleneck slide on one finger, stompin' his feet keepin' time, and singin' as he went along...everytime I listen to old Robert Johnson I can't help but admire his playing...thanks for the listen my friend...Moker

Hey Moker,
Had to stop by to see what all the fuss was about...and I'm so glad I did. This is what just happens when you do some good ole writing, hitch it up to the right music, and sing it straight from your soul.
Should be fun to pitch, for all participants. Good luck!
