Wow Alan...I was feeling so good catching up until I saw the latest news. You must be exhausted from the wild ride. I wish you lots of strength to get through this...and I do hope everyone's prayers are heard..mine among them... ....and as fast as I post, you're here with another positive update. I'm glad Helen's rebounding ... now I feel better too

oh Alan! what a rollercoaster ride!
my friend here who also has MS (a little younger..and so far not as severe, though progressing lately) said to expect these kinds of changes... but we on the outside never do.
I'm so glad to know she's on the wings of another swift recovery. I pray...like you... that this one will last longer...

Hey Al, Had to stop by when I heard about the latest good news. Hopefully it will last a lot longer this time....though now that you've already experienced what might happen, perhaps you'll be more prepared should it (hopefully not) recur. Nice to see you're taking some time for yourself to chime in on a couple of threads...You'll need some balance.... So hang in there, and send our love to Helen!! Ciao for now, Beth

Great Heavenly Father we know that you love us each and every one. We ask that you forgive us our sins and grant Helen strength, tremendous strength to the glory of God. In the name and faith of Christ. Amen.

Well, Helen is back home again. medically, she is doing much better. But, this second episode in ICU has really frightened her. It was a very unpleasant experience. But, she is getting better. She starts therapy several hours a day for a couple of weeks on Friday. She is very weak, physically, and still nervous from the hospitalization.
She has had a very rough road the past month, so her nervousness and aprehensions are quite understandable. She is going to need some time to regroup both emotionally and physically. As I said, those two issues are not at all surprising, considering all that has happened.
So, we'll keep saying our prayers, working with the healthcare professionals and loving and supporting one another. I guess that's about all we can for now. But, it sounds like a good plan to me.
Thanks to all of you once again for all the love, caring and support in every way that you have done. It really did make a difference...still does! Thanks again to each and every one of you.
Alan & Helen

Again, that's awesome news Al. It's commendable how you've managed to maintain your calm throughout this ordeal. Here's a little verse to help "de-sensitize" Helen from her latest experience: I C U U C me 2-gether U 2 4-ever will B Silly, I know, but remember, music soothes the savage beast!! (though this ditty is likely to make the beast just keel over...) Take care! Beth

Alan, that's wonderful. She is home. You've retired to be with her. And a plan for medical care is in place. Just being home with you will help a great deal emotionally. I'm sure you give her confidence.
We will always have God's love, the power of prayer, and the faith of Christ to glorify Him from whom all good things come.
Give Helen a hug from me, John

Alan, I hope Helen is doing well still. I can understand having anxiety and emotional issues leftover! Completely normal... all types of healing are a process and take their time... meanwhile still praying for you. I put your names on the prayer roll here in Seattle again since it's been two weeks (that's how long names stay on). I think I will call the St. Louis Temple as well. Not that distance matters to God but it won't hurt. http://www.lds.org/temples/alphabetical/0,11202,1901-1,00.html For anyone else who wants to do this--for any of their loved ones--here's the world list of temples. You don't have to be a member of my church to use the prayer roll. Just call the # and say you're calling to add a name to the prayer roll, and they'll take it down for you. (The people answering are always very nice, too!) It's to be used for those you know personally who are having special needs, trials, or issues in their lives... i.e., long lists of every person you've ever met isn't really appropriate, or celebrity names, etc (unless you know them personally!).... that sort of thing.... people you would ordinarily be praying for. (Alan, I hope you don't mind my sharing this information in your thread. If you do--I will immediately take it back out with my apologies!) God bless! Linda

Alan,
I have been so out of it with this boards over the last week or so and I am set to travel again on Sunday so I am only just catching up on the latest in Helen's situation. I am sorry to hear about all the setbacks but relieved and grateful to know that she is home again. My prayers continue to go out for both of you. Both of you are amazing human beings and an inspiration to many of us here on the boards.
May the Lord continue to bless you both,
Rachel

Hi Everyone!
Helen has been home for a week, now. She is much weaker coming out of the hospital this time than she was the first time. But, most importantly, she did come home.
She is taking 6 hours of therapy 3 days per week for at least another 2 weeks. At that point, she will be reevaluated.
We are going to be spending Thanksgiving with someone I grew up admiring. Theo Peoples sang with both the Four Tops and The Temptations. We will be at a friends' house who lives next door to Theo and he will be there. He is a very nice gentleman and occasionally plays at a couple of local places...sometimes just showing up to sit in and jam. He's a very good pianist. Okay, done dropping names and bragging!
Helen and I both want to extend our prayers and warm wishes back to all of you. All the support and compassion you have given us through JPF, PMs and e-mails has been so wonderful and encouraging. Thanks to each and every one of you!
Have agreat Turkey Day!
Alan & Helen

Hi Alan and Helen...and all my JPF family...
I just want to send this note to let ALL of you know how THANKFUL I am that you are a part of my life...and that I can be a tiny part of this incredible community...where we can all just be ourselves and help each other be the best we can be...where we can lighten each other's burdens from time to time...and where we can also share the joy when good things come our way.
You are all blessings in my life...and I am thankful for each of you.
Big thankful hugs, Bobbie

Well, I guess it's time for thanks giving. Thank you Lord for answering the prayers of us sinners for your glory. Because through God all things are possible. Please continue to give Helen increasing strength. And may we all recognize our blessings and give thanks to Him from whom all good things come. In the name and faith of Christ. Amen.

Thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts, your parayers and your friendship. Helen and I are both in awe of the kindness and care you have shown us throughout all of this.
I was trying to think of just the right words to tell you folks of our feelings. The fact is, I am incapable of doing so. Instead, I think I'll just put all of you in my prayer of thanks today and ask God to speak on my behalf through his blessings to all of you. And if you are not one who embraces God in your spiritual belifs, I'll simply wish that everything goes as well as possible for you in every way. Regardless, Helen and I are so appreciative of all of you for so many things.
May I suggest that each of you look in the mirror sometime today and realize that the person looking back at you has been instrumental in giving two other people new strength and passion. And there is little more that means so much to those two people.
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!
Alan & Helen

Alan, that's the least we could do for you guys.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Hey Al
I would like to say we are all better for having been here to witness all the lord has done. Several time in this tragedy have been rays of his lights and even in the most desperate moments God has never left. You and Helen are a testimony to Gods Love and blessing poured out on his people. And Alan and Helen... You are also a blessing unto us. Hope you had a happy thanksgiving and we'll continue to have you and Helen in our thoughts and prayers. Hugs Blessings Derek

Hello,
I thought it was time for me to send a personal thank you to all of you at JPF. I know some of you personally from gaving gone to Pineyfest 2006. I feel as though I "know" many more of you in a much different but equally important way from your very touching posts here that Bobbie started.
I am having good days and bad days. But, at least I am having days! That wasn't a guarantee a few of weeks ago. The physical therapy and occupational therapy are difficult and demanding. I really do not enjoy them. But, I am starting to see some small indications of benefit from them.
Thank you very much for all of your prayers and wishes for my recovery. I believe that they helped me through this very scary ordeal. I am not all that good with words. That is why Alan is the author and sonngwriter in the family. So, I would like offer all of you a simple but sincere and heartfelt "THANK YOU".
When I went to Pineyfest in 2006, I wasn't expecting a lot, other than some good music. However, I quickly learned that the people at JPF are more than talented writers and performers. You are special people in so many ways. I have never enjoyed myself more at any sort of event more than I did Pineyfest. I wear my T-Shirt from that occassion several times each month.
Thank you again. You prayers and thoughts are not only appreciated by me; they are also felt in my heart. In return, I will pray for all you with thanks to God for bringing all of you to me in this special way.
Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukkah.
Helen

My dear Helen!!
We were blessed to have the chance to meet and get to know you at Pineyfest last year. It was easy to understand why your hubby is still in love with you after all these years!! You are truly a special lady...and his devotion is certainly NO surprise to the rest of us. We each have our gifts...and it was obvious that yours include a strong spirit.
Through Alan's posts about your recent ordeal, those of us who have been watching and praying for your renewed strength and victory over the medical issues you have had to deal with...I feel we all were able to participate in some small way in a modern day miracle. It still warms my heart every time I think of all you endured..and yet you are still here and able to communicate with us!!
We love you...and are continuing to hold you up in prayer!!
Bless you both...
Bobbie

Dear Helen, I just wanted to take a moment to say YOU ARE WELCOME!! -- in more ways than one! I think I can speak for many here at JPF who feel like we have been riding this roller coaster along with you and Al. We are so grateful for the outcome thus far, and that you're feeling well enough to come spend some time with us. Though I've only been on board here since the springtime and did not get to Pineyfest, I do feel I've come to know some very special people here -- and I count your husband among them. Through this experience, you've both been blessed to have each other. Here's wishing you continued strength, patience and peace during your hopefully speedy recovery. All my best, Beth
