Hey Scott,

Can you direct link the photos so they load here? That's what I am hoping for... a way to get instant gratification and see them. See what Tricia is doing as an example!

WOW, Scott! Those are excellent. Use www.flickr.com as a host, then link by using the URL to the photo. Voila!!

Hey Brian:

Yes, but will take a little time. I'll edit the post so the pics are shown later tonight....

Thanks,
Scott

Thanks Tricia. I've been using a place called Photobucket (got the idea from Bill Robinson). Probably does the same thing. Glad you liked them...

Thanks Brian, glad you liked them.

I have relatively few scanned to put up on the web - most are 11 x 14 prints and I don't have a scanner that big smile

And my darkroom no longer exists....

Tricia
I still don't see how they just come up automatically. Wouldn't you still need a link?

Yes, you need a "host" site which will in turn give you a link to post in the inset image button. It "borrows" the image without using space on your own website. I'm not sure how it works but it does, Herbie.

Thanks for the info Tricia, and the kind words earlier.

Thanks, Vikki - I edited the page to put direct links and I don't have the White Sands pic at home here. Bummer! Left the link up though.....

Thanks, Linda.

Between 1993 and 2001, my wife and I took a couple of trips each year for the sole purpose of taking photographs. We would shoot all day and then develop the film in our hotel room at night to make sure we got the images we wanted. Had to come home to get rested up smile

One day in Utah I awoke and looked at my watch and it read 7:00. This was bad because we were going to miss the magic hour for morning light. So I wake up my wife and we rush to make coffee, shower and get all our gear organized. Then we rush outside - and it's pitch black! I thought the world had ended!

Turns out my watch was still in stopwatch mode from developing film the previous evening. In reality, it was 3 am....

Surprised she would even speak to me after that grin

Thanks!

Those are some great shots man. So did you shoot those 3 in 35mm but cropped them into a square format? For a long time after I got my 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 I kept finding myself cropping off the top and bottom. But after I got used to it, I preffered the square for most stuff.

Thanks Steve...

I think these are all 35 mm. Most of the time, cropped just to make an 11 x 14 print. Sometimes cropped for artistic reasons...

Used a 4 x 5 view camera on occasion. Less cropping there cause the aspect ratio is closer....

I like a square format too. Had a Yashica 2 1/4 X 2 1/4 for awhile. Was nice to not have to rotate the camera smile

I'd like to see some of your medium format stuff....

Well, when I get back home (I'm in Austin, TX right now visiting family and playing some music)I'll start going through the photos and try to pick out a few worth looking at. It's been a few years since I've had the time to do my photography in any serious way.

Hi Scott,

I finally made it over to this forum. Thanks for telling me about it or I would never known it existed.

What a great set of photos! I recognize some of them but some I have never seen. You have such a great eye and sense of form. Maybe this forum will inspire to return to photography (I hope).

I will post links to some of my pics later. Thanks again for the info.

I have come back and looked at these pictures several times.
I can't seem to get enough of them. It's like a great song I guess.
The starkness of the black and white just blows me away.

Monument Valley is incredible

Hey Steve:

Looking forward to seeing them...

Hey Clint:

Glad you found your way here. Looking forward to seeing your bird pics!

I let photography get out of control - and began photographing things because I thought they could win competitions rather than for the sheer joy of creation that got me into it in the first place.

But I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now grin

So who knows, I may get back into it - if so, probably digital. Even when I don't have a camera, I still find myself framing compositions. Think I told you that already..... smile

Hey Bill:

Many thanks for the kind words. I would like to say that I did black and white purely for "artistic reasons". Fact of the matter is that color darkroom printing was WORK - you had to be very careful with temperatures and times. My job required that of me already so the last thing I wanted was a hobby that did too grin

Of course I did appreciate the black and white image and most of the people who influenced me shot in that medium.

Monument Valley - yeah - one of my favorite places!

The funny thing is Scott, that I have a pic perhaps using the exact same piece of driftwood as you. I'll post it one of these days to compare.

Ha - that wouldn't surprise me one bit - the kind of thing photographers look for....

My photo friends and I used to joke that we should make an inflatable driftwood that we could carry with us to use in foregrounds grin

Would love to see your pic - can never get enough of Monument Valley!

Really nice pictures, Scott.

Just a few months ago I st the digital camera aside for awhile and got an old minolta x 700.;..a few lenses, a vivitar 283, some polarizers, and now, thanks to your beautiful black and whites, some plus x and tmax 100 and I'm ready to go!

Thanks for the inspiration, young man.

Hey Bob:

Cool!

I haven't tried to unload any of my equipment (all film-based, as opposed to digital) but I've heard from friends that you practically have to give it away. So it's a buyer's market - glad that worked in your favor!

That wide angle lens will get you some cool shots! Glad they still make plus-x - that was often my film of choice. Nice tonality.

If you're gonna shoot any black and white where there is lots of blue sky in the picture, snag a red filter too - that's how you get the skies to go dark. Took me awhile to figure out how Ansel Adams did that grin

Occurs to me I may be telling you something you already know - this seems like something you are *returning* to smile If so, apologies...

Thanks Bob

Thanks for reminding me about the red and green filters..

When I was on the road with my band I was seduced by color pix.
I shot slides most of the time..used polarizers to darken my skies and lots of haze filters..
Had a nice little sima soft focus lens..100 mm as I recal...
I had alot of fun..

Your pictures have reminded me how satisfying black and white can be..

The plus x came out of a buddies freezer..I don't know if they still make it..
We're doing a shoot in chicago this weekend..we'll see if the plus x is still good..my guess is that it'll work fine.

Most of my scenics were shot on either a 28 or a 35 mm prime lens..Im anxious to try out this new ultra wide zoom...

You're right about prices for retro gear..it is indeed a buyers market.

I lost all my old gear in a fire several years ago..
I had a yashicamat 2 and 1/4 that took flarey old fashioned pix..I really miss that camera...
not as hefy as a rollei but every bit as much fun.

Again..thanks for sharing your work..it rally has been inspiring for me

I had a Yashicamat 2 1/4 too! Bet it was the same model. I traded mine for a 4 x 5 Speed Graphic. Not one of my better moves grin

Thanks again for the kind words. Hope your shoot goes well. Would love to see some of your stuff.

Ha!

I've got a Speed Graphic in storage...it's the Calumet with the sports view finder..I got it from a guy who used to shoot sports for the oldChicago Herald..many pix of Joe Louis came thru that camera.

I'll try to post some images..don't know if I have any as striking as yours..but...what the heck!
