Tampa Bay Folks, Great news! Sunday, September 25th we will meet and showcase at Java Junction 705 Franklin St Clearwater 33756, 727-799-1100. www.myjavajunction.com If you havnt been to this venue yet you will be impressed. Situated for focus on the artist with an ambiance and flavor of creativity. This will be our first Chapter meeting at this venue as many of you have asked for it to be considered. Please, we need a great turnout so call your friends and relatives and bring them out for an evening of awesome original music. We usually start at 4pm but this time around we are doing things a little differently. During the day an Artist named Jim Donovan www.jimdonovanmusic.com is wrapping up a two day drum clinic (Hand Drums) and has the room from 1-5pm. The cost of this clinic is $60. for both days and $40. for Sunday alone. If any JPFers would like to attend Sunday only, you will be given the special price of only $25. Now remember this is a courtesy on Jim's part and in no way affects our Chapter Showcase. Everyone of us is welcome to come in at 4pm absolutely free as that is when the clinic portion is over and the Drum Jamm begins. This will prove to be both entertaining and a way for us to network with some local percussionists. A drum set will be avalable for our showcase by Scott Losey a promoter for Jim Donovans portion of this event, so what we need to bring is cymbals, snare and kicks, a bass rig and Guitar amp. The house furnishes a killer p.a. system with partner/house engineer Winston making us all sound good. I have talked with partner Robin and she will have a Bar B Que type deal going on at a resonable cost to us so take advantage of a nice hot meal while there. Lets let them know we appreciate them hosting us by eating and having a couple of beverages. Remember this is a business that usually doesnt even open their doors on Sunday. You asked for a great venue with no sports, outdoor smoking, the focus on the artist, great stage and Great sound so here it is. Please help your chapter with a successful turnout. There is no charge to any of us only that we come prepared to play our best ORIGINAL MATERIAL as this is a NO COVER venue. Please let us know on this thread that you intend on being there so we can let them know how to prepare for us. Hi Barney, Glad to see you will be making the meeting/showcase. I guess it's you and me bud. The quicker responses we have the more time everyone including the venue that everyone wants to host us has to prepare. Thanks for being so quick to respond Barney. Anyone else? Al

I just learned of Mikey's resignation as stage manager and drum set supplier. I have a practice set of drums which I could bring if needed. Bear in mind it's nothing special. Al - please let me know if my drums are needed and I'll be glad to supply them. Alex - you offered to bring a bass rig. Please do. Because of limited space in my car I will not be bringing a bass rig if I end up bringing my drums. ------------------ Steve Dockendorf "Quality music for quality people" dockendorf2000@yahoo.com www.soundclick.com/stevedockendorf

Steve, I have a set of drums and will bring them. At Java, I believe we only need cymbals, foot pedal, sticks. I'll also bring the snare. They have a set of house drums. Dan

Bob, Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. Have a very safe trip and know that we are all with you in spirit.
Al, we are going to do our best to make it today...but not 100% sure yet. Sierra doesn't really want to come, so I'm seeing if I can line up a sitter or get big brother Luke to stay with her if I can get ahold of him & he and Jessie don't already have any plans. We played this weekend, so it's always hard to get extra baby-sitting on gig weekends! Sigh.
Anyway, I hope we make it down there even if only for an hour. We'll do our best!!! If not both, then maybe just one of us can attend. I'll see about that as an option too.
L, Cin and Frankie too

Java Junction was a blast.A small but mighty group of JPFer's played their hearts out as always. It was nice to see some new faces as well. Robyn & Winston are also excellent hosts. The stage is huge & Winston does an excellent job of running their great sound system. The folks that I had talked to that had never been to The Junction were very impressed with it as well. There is a deck outside for smokers too.Every one's needs are met at this venue.A very rare thing. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is also excellent. It don't get no better than this folks.Java Junction is a great new home for the Tampa Bay Chapter of Just Plain Folks. Not sure of the date just yet(23rd or 30th) but the October meeting/showcase will more than likely be the last one of the year due to the holidays in November(Thanksgiving)& December (Christmas)or other religious holidays. If you want to get out and strutt yer stuff this would be the meeting to do it at for the year. Hell I am even going to do a few solo tunes and most of you remember what a shakey deal (stage fright shakes)that was the last time I tried a solo performance. So come on out and share your music and have a good laugh or two. Sounds like this was cool. We're sorry that we were not able to attend because we couldn't get a sitter (Luke and Jessie already had plans too) and Sierra didn't want to come...she's a kid, so I can understand. She gets sick of always having to go to rehearsals and all mom and dad's music stuff all the time. Anyway, hope all was great. I'm sure it was. See you soon. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Cindy

What a great venue! Well-run by friendly and competent people. I believe I was responsible for about five people that came who wouldn't have known about it otherwise. JJ is a big space. And the empty chairs have a tendency to make our group look small. That just means we need to tell more folks to help us fill it up and make the good thing we have become their thing, too. Remember our motto. ------------------ Steve Dockendorf "Quality music for quality people" dockendorf2000@yahoo.com www.soundclick.com/stevedockendorf

Fellow Folks, I agree that Java Junction is a great venue BUT.......... If we look at the big picture here are a couple of facts. 1. We cannot play covers there. We have some members that either only play covers and are excellent folks to network with. We have talked with the partners and the reason for no covers is no PRO license. I know that it is ideal for many of the folks that live close by and I admit that it is a very, very cool place but I KNOW our turnout was really light also. That is a direct reflection on location. I have been doing this with you for three years now and Im telling you the best turnouts we have had are near the Bay that way its good for folks from both counties. Im really not trying to throw a wrench in this thing but before we get carried away remember although the focus is on songwriting this is a worldwide musicians organization. I know for a fact, because I get direct e-mails telling me, of three folks who have been with us for A LONG TIME that didnt come Sunday because of the no cover deal. And it really kicks Horsefeathers in the knees also. And we cant just have a Jamm session after the show like we have so many times. We really need a venue that is good for everyone. This venue issue is one that absolutely needs to be resolved so in the VERY near future I will be posting an announcement to hold an interim meeting. We will discuss chapter business and brainstorm. If you truley want a voice in your chapter this will be the forum for it. Topics will be addressed in a positive manor. Keep Strummin' Al

Although I live five min. from Java Junction I will go on record in support of our leader. Definitely the way to go is by looking at all the pros and cons and selecting the venue that gives the biggest bang for all concerned. Yet again Al the Pal demonstrates why he is rightfully the Big Boss of this chapter. Now there is a place right near Java Junction that . . . ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) ------------------ Steve Dockendorf "Quality music for quality people" dockendorf2000@yahoo.com www.soundclick.com/stevedockendorf
