Hi, my name is Rafe Malach and I am passionate about music. I am a very avid songwriter with incredible stage presence, but there is one problem. I can't sing!!! And I think if I could learn how to sing I would be really good. So listen to this MP3 and tell me one of three options. http://www.songramp.com/homepage.ez?Who=Rafe2&playsong=Yes&sampleid=16939 http://www.garageband.com/play/song?|pe1|S8LTM0LdsaSnYlC3YGE a) I could become a good singer if I got lessons. b) I could become a good singer if I read how from a book. c) There is no hope.

d) You could become a better singer if you took voice lessons.

Rafe, I tried both links and was unable to listen - darn! But I will say this.....if you love music and are a songwriter, you already have an EAR for music. That is absolutely vital, and the part that you cannot do without. Yes, take voice lessons. Take voice lessons. Absolutely, positively, take voice lessons. And if you don't feel like you "fit" with one teacher, find another. Learn to hear the difference between on pitch and off pitch. A voice teacher -- or a piano tuner!! -- can help you. Then, it's sort of muscular. It's like the reflex involved in catching a ball. To some people, it comes easily; to others, it takes a bit more practice, but God made us so we can do it. I wish I could hear you! But I feel confident in saying that if you can HEAR the musical nuances, you can learn to sing them. Take voice lessons. A good teacher is worth every penny. Good luck! Rafe,
When you say you can't sing do you mean you don't have a good voice or you don't know the mechanics of good singing?
Good vocal talent runs in my family. It is a gift none of us can take credit for. However, I have been trained while my brother and my dad have not. They both say they CANT sing. I say, they just have not learned the rules and don't have the confidence. But that CAN be learned.
On the other hand, I once knew a lady who majored in vocal performance in college. She knew HOW to sing, but she did not have a quality voice at all and it was not pleasant to listen to her.
So, if the raw stuff is there, then get some lessons (from a GOOD teacher - There are many who think they can sing/teach, but not all are good ) and you will be on your way! If you don't feel you have a natural singing voice, then learning vocal techniques will help some, but maybe you might want to find a great vocalist to pair up with who can sing the songs you've written while you back him /her. This would help your songs that you worked so hard on writing get the presentation they deserve and more people will listen and enjoy which is the ultimate goal. Either way, best to you!!
