Here is the idea: We brainstorm on this thread. Every participant proposes a lyrical line. We try to agree on the best ones to include. We will then have one of our meetings at Jeff W's studio in Allentown where we will all contribute instrumentally.
All we need to get stared is a topic.

I suppose the most timely subject may be the blackout. Who wants to start?

Hello all,
This seemed like the proper time for my first post. For anyone who doesn't know, I'm the guy who plays guitar for Davey O. As Mike said, the next meeting may be at my place (if we can move to thursday, Dave and I are booked that wednesday). Anyone needing directions can drop me a line.
The blackout seems iike a cool start but lets not decend into a buffalo slag... how about a story about what you did during the blackout?

Twelve bar blues in “D” (with a beat like "if you want to get to heaven ya gotta raise a little hell)
I was picking on my fender I was cranking out a song When my pilot light went dim I knew something must be wrong
I said now what the hell gives here Man I really liked that tune! When the power got up and left us On a Thursday afternoon
So I walked up to my seven rack Wondered which ax do use Then I grabbed my old Guild flat top And played acoustic blues God knows I love those acoustic blues
Yeah you can play them louder Play them any way you choose But there ain’t nothing better Then those acoustic blues
When you can’t plug it in, you can still get it out Just wish I had a mic so I wouldn’t have to shout
Taylor, Martin or Ovation Doesn’t matter what you use Just go grab your flat top And play acoustic blues God knows I love those acoustic blues

Continuation of Dean's 12 bar:
tried to call my baby but the cordless phone was dead so I got into my pickup and drove to her instead
she still had her power so we turned on the news seems the eastern seaboard had the loss of power blues

Mike, I prefer DavyO's approach. I think the song should reflect the Just Plain Folks chapter in some way. That way we can use it at the Showcases. Right now I have no real idea for lyrics but am thinking about it. Frank

Mike, I've been thinking about the Chapter Song. I wrote a melody and lyrics as the following:
OH, WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER BOTH IN FAIR AND STORMY WEATHER, MAKES A CROWD OF LIS'NERS GATHER WHEN THEY HEAR OUR MEMBERS PLAY.
NOT JUST SIMPLY MONOPHONIC GET A LOAD OF OUR HARMONICS DIG THESE CRAZY SUPERTONICS MAKES 'EM WANT TO SWING AND SWAY.
WE ARE SIMPLY JUST PLAIN FOLKS OUT OF LOVE A SONG WE COAX. MEMBERS OF A NASH'NAL GROUP, ALL CAN FIT RIGHT IN THE LOOP.
'ROUN' THE TOWN THEY COME TO HEAR US, CLAP THEIR HANDS SUPPORT AND CHEER US, THERE'S A PLACE FOR EV'RY JOE DOAKS 'CAUSE WE'RE ONLY ALL JUST PLAIN FOLKS.
I'll sing it at the next meeting. Frank

Please give me a couple of days notice if this is a go. It may prove to be a multiple session project if many wish to add a track. Maybe anyone interested could shoot me an email stating any technical considerations... I can take in two mic pres at a time or up to about 8 DIs. If we had a bit of an idea of what we're recording the time here would be better spent. Sorry, no screaming Marshalls.
Oh yeah, I have three chairs ... if you're person 4 bring one or enjoy the hardwood floors. ;-)

Hi all, I would have to agree with Jeff regarding the recording process. I don't know how much experience some of the members of our group have, but something tells me that there's this idea that we're gonna show up at Jeff's, do a run through, record the song in one or two takes and be home for the 11:00 o'clock news. Wouldn't it be more beneficial to actually 1.) decide which song we're going to record, Frank's idea or Dean's, and 2.) once decided, conduct a rehearsal/arranging session to decide who's gonna play/sing what...I mean, are there gonna be drum machine parts involved? If so, who's going to program them? Are we going to record electric guitars and bass? Or is this just a way to get together and do something that's in the "all inclusive" guidelines of JPF, regardless of the results of the recording? I don't mean to put any negativity into this project...I think it's a good idea, but one that requires a bit more planning if the desired result is to have something more than all of us not playing in sync, bad vocal harmonies, or out of tune guitars. I think this may be a two or three session recording process, at the very least. Just my .02 Davey O. ------------------ Davey O. How 'bout this as a continuation of Dean's blues. I TRIED TO LIGHT A CANDLE COULDN'T FIND A MATCH NOWHERE, I TRIED TO LIGHT A CANDLE COULDN'T FIND A MATCH NOWHERE, GONE OUT TO MY PICK-UP USED THE LIGHTER STILL WAS THERE.
TOOK A GLSS OF WHISKEY 'NUFF TO CHASE MY BLUES AWAY, TOOK A GLASS OF WHISKEY 'NUFF TO CHASE MY BLUES AWAY THEN I TOOK ANOTHER FOUND MY BLUES WERE HERE TO STAY.

I think DaveyO has a point. Can we all get together effectively at one sitting without rehearsal? Maybe we should discuss this at our next meeting. Frank
