Hi Everyone,
My name is Daniel Porter. I found this community through a web site of an online friend, John Scott.
Over the past 5 years I have been a member of a number of online songwriting and recording forums, however fell into a trap where I was spending too much time on-line and not enough time in the real world developing my skills and recording my own work. I'm wanting to concentrate on my writings skills and develop them, since the song does come first!
Personally, I'm 25, married, living in the inner-west of Sydney, no kids yet ;-), working 9-5:30 running and supporting the IT infrastructure in a travel company.
My wife was recently 'discovered' as such by a 'veteran' jazz singer/entertainer and is starting coaching with her this weekend.
My favourite genere of music would have to be country followed by easy listening. As to what I write, I describe myself as 'ballads / country', however in the last few weeks I've been starting to consider if by saying that to other people and myself am I limiting myself?.. that probably a mental misconception I need to sort out.
I first had the idea of writing a song during the summer holidays of 97, listening to John Laws broadcasting from the Tamworth Country Music Awards. That day in the studio he had Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Troy Cassar-Daley, Tommy Emannuel and I think Smokey Dawson. There might have been a couple of others.. but you get the idea ;-) I thought.. hmmm I can do that, so I wrote down a few words.. from memory "I you were Romeo, you would be my Juliet".. the following lines I can't remember.
The first actual song I wrote (I wrote two songs back to back) was called 'If Love'. Looking back I can see how I've developed lyrically over the years.
How far do I want to go with my music/songwriting? Everone has the dream of making it, myself included. Personally I just want to make music that I and others will enjoy. If I can (and one day I hope I will) go further that would be awesome!
I do appologise for my first ramble, however you now might have a little idea about who I am.
Keep writing,
talk to you all soon,
Daniel

Thanks Wirdaz,
Thanks for the welcome..
I saw your post in response in the other thread. I looked up where you were (as I didn't know where it was). It's a nice area up there. My parents have an investment propertie up in Blue Haven, still a little further south that you. Now I think of it.. it's probably half way.
Talk soon,
Daniel
